  1. Hmmm.. last year on our Getaway Xmas cruise , we had to skip Great Stirrup Cay because the water was too choppy, and it turned into a sea day.

They made the announcement the night before we were due to port.

    We didn't get anything back.

  2. I think you may be on the same Epic cruse as my family on 12/10.

We did the Sea Trek helmet dive in Cozumel 2 years ago. We (two 40+ adults and two teenagers) all loved it. :D

Walking around on the sea floor checking out the fish and other things was so much fun. My wife & I brought our waterproof cameras with us and took video and photos of the entire thing.

I've tried scuba, and I have a problem with it because I'm a nose breather, not a mouth breather. The helmet dive was perfect for me because you can breathe however you do normally.

If you have any questions ask away!

  3. I upgraded to a Haven Spa Room and had already purchased banquet seating for Illusionarium. Do any of you know if that level of seating will still get me taken in before everyone else and allow me to sit up front or would I have to upgrade my seating to floor seating? Thanks!

You'll sit in the front of whatever section you reserved.

We loved the Illusionarium.. we had floor seats , and were right up front thanks to our Haven concierge, Virginia. :)

  4. 4) I read somewhere I think that there is complimentary use of a device (maybe a phone) where you can keep in touch with others in your room while they are out and about on the ship. Did I dream this?

My family sailed the Getaway in a H4 over Xmas 2015. The cordless phone is pretty cool. You can use it all over the ship - it's VOIP based. It has a different extension number than the hardwired phones in the room, so you can call back to your room, and the room can call the cordless. Say the room was 16001, the cordless might be 160011 .

It came in handy when my wife & I wandered the ship, and we told our teenagers to check in with us at certain times. (We let them roam with new friends.) They could call the cordless extension from any phone on the ship.

  5. We were in the Haven on the 12/20 xmas Getaway cruise.

We got to the port about 9:45am.

Walked inside and there were maybe 20 people head of us in security.

Just after security there was a "Haven" waiting room, where they had our keys. We hung out there until just after 11am and then got escorted into the Haven lounge on the ship.

  6. Has anyone had any experience using Uber from a MIA Airport Hotel to the Port of Miami? How long did it take for the car to arrive? How much did you pay for the trip? I'm trying to weigh all the options for transportation from our pre-cruise hotel to the port for my upcoming cruise on the Escape. Thanks!

I had my Global Entry interview on a Sunday at MIA which I scheduled to coincide with our cruise. After we checked into the cruise, I left my family on the Getaway and took Uber to MIA.

From the port to MIA and back via UberX was about $13.00 each way. Took less than 25 mins each way.

After our cruise , we took an UberXLto MIA because there was 4 of us with luggage. It was $26.00 and took less than 25 min.

  7. They will take your requests - whether any of it will actually happen, let us know how it goes.

We tried this before our xmas cruise. They said they'd pass the requests onto the ship.

When we got there, the mini bar was still full and we didn't have the memory foam pillows my wife asked for. We just had to get ahold of our room steward and he took care of it.

  8. We were in a forward H4 on the Getaway this past xmas.

We questioned our bulter about it. He told us that to just let him know what we wanted and what time and he'd take care of it. He did caution us that often times the main course would be on the cold side by the time we got it, though, so we didn't bother with it.

  9. On the Getaway breakfast was served from 7-10, lunch from 12-2, and dinner 5:30-10

On sea days breakfast changes to 7:30-10:30

We just got off the Getaway this past Sunday and this sounds right. Kalai , the Haven maitre d, is awesome. If you have any special requests (food allergies, vegetarian, etc), he'll take care of you. I can't say enough good things about the entire Haven staff!! :D

  10. You can get a cheap wireless repeater / router. That device will be "the one" logged in - the client on NCL's network.

Then you can use all of your devices simultaneously as long as your devices log into the repeater's network, as clients of the repeater. :D

As a visual... here's how the repeater would work as a go between.

    Your device #1 \

    Your device #2 +---> Repeater's WiFI +---> NCL WiFi

    Your device #3 /

  11. IMO, not frequently enough, and when they do arrive you oftentimes will find them full (unless your ship was the first one they stop at after coming back from the airport). I go in with a backup plan... I give them 10 minutes to arrive, and if they are either full or fail to show up in that amount of time I'll spend the $27ish for a cab ride to the airport and pickup the car. I guess over time I've been left standing on the curb waiting for the free ride too much to get worked up over it any longer.

    Thanks for the info.

I'll likely use Uber if my wife and kids start complaining about the wait too much. :) We'll also plan on getting off the ship as late as possible since we're in no rush - hopefully that'll mean we get a more empty buss.

  12. T-Mobile has a similar plan that includes free calls, texting and data within Canada and Mexico, plus they have free texting and data in tons of other countries.

Last year on the Dawn, we had free coverage in Mexico & Honduras. Belize doesn't let you roam.. you have to buy a local SIM card.

My daughter spent 10 days in Europe this past July, and she had free texting and data in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the UK.

It's definately worth having at least a GSM burner if you travel alot!
