We just got off the Polaris and were in a NS, #4022.  It is right under the walking/jogging track.  It was no problem with walkers but almost every morning there was a woman running up there.   Sounded like “boom boom boom boom boom” whenever she was over our stateroom.  There was definitely NO sleeping past 6:15 or whatever time she started!

Thanks for the feedback, I hope you have given viking your feedback. It seems like something they should be able to correct or at least fix on their next ship.

Just got off of the Octantis a few weeks ago and never heard anything at any time of the day or night. The cabins are really insulated and sound proof. We didn't even hear people in the hallways. We were in a Penthouse Suite but only a few cabins away from a Jr. Suite.

Thanks Insanityx4, much appreciated!  That was just what I wanted to hear!

  3. Hi All,  Big Fans of Viking Ocean and have a question for anyone who has stayed in a Nordic Jr Suite.  It looks like most of the (NS) cabins are either under the World Cafe, Mamsens or Right next to the Explorers Lounge.  Oh and also under the jogging track on deck 5   Has there been any issues with Noise coming from either above or for those next to the lounge through the wall.  I am hoping the answer is no and it is well insulated, but wanted to hear from someone who has actually stayed in the cabins.

    Thanks

  4. Has anyone noticed that Viking has put "SOLD OUT" on all 2021 Alaska Cruises, this happened last week and it was not that way the week before.  This also include the transpacific cruises to or From Asia.  Not sure what it means (other than possible future cruise cancellations),  but I am not feeling good about it.  For one all the cruises are 10 days which is not in accordance to CDC guidance,  and Two, I haven't heard of any Viking Ships going through Test Sailings or scheduled for them. I think I will be moving my cruise to 2022 while I can.

  5. I also find it interesting that they show all the old pictures of suites except for the Sunset Suites.  Have you seen the revolution suite cabins on the Millennium and the Summit.  All the cabins have been significantly updated and the Celebrity cabin looks completely different.  Here is a youtube video:

  6. For M Class ships I concur,  even if you add the veranda and cabin together the FV/Sunset Suite is still smaller than the Celebrity suite and the Sunset cabin is  1/2 of its size.  Not sure what celebrity is thinking.  The only way they could justify the price is to link the perks to the level of a Royal Suite and make the cabin a lot bigger than it is.

  7. If you look at bookings for the Silhouette on and after 4/7/2021 and book a suite, it will lists the Sunset Suite as available and if you select pick your own cabin,  it lists the 4 Sunset Suites. They are in fact the redesigned Family Veranda Cabins.  7107, 7108, 8107, 8108 and are listed at 575 sqft.  In the gallery they show the same two pictures that are on the celebrity website, Main cabin and Bedroom.  I don't know what the significance of 4/7/2021 is, I don't see a gap for another refurbishment, unless it is only a couple of weeks long.  It also does not list a Reflection suite or Sunset/Signature suites on deck 12.  Still have not seen anything official about the Silhouette refurbishment yet, probably won't until the ship is ready to leave dry dock.

  8. I think I agreed with you,  if they add a large suite like reflection or Iconic in would have a big impact on the lounge.  What is interesting is that when you go to the suites page for Celebrity Cruises:

    https://www.celebritycruises.com/things-to-do-onboard/staterooms/suite-class/sunset-suite

It tells you that the sunset suite will be on all the Revolution upgraded ships (the when schedule seems up in the air,  but they names the ships).  If you look at any other suite class, there is no mention of them being added to the revolution upgrades.   That is what seems surprising.  It is not on the reflection suite, iconic suite, etc. You would think if they were adding a Reflection Suite as part of the upgrade they would state it like they do the sunset suite.

What is true is the Reflection Suite is already part of the system and all they would have to do is unlock the suite and make it available for booking.

I hope they don't add the suite, I think the sky lounge is one of the nicest places to hang out on the ship, along with the martini bar.

I think that is a polite way to say that even if the cabins are in the front of the ship, you don't have a forward view.  The veranda is on the side of the ship with a blocked forward view so you can only see aft (sunset view).

The ones on the aft are well, really sunset views.

Also the sky lounge is the sky observation lounge, I think it was really the conference center that was going to be impacted the most by the new cabins. I haven't heard a thing  about the reflection suite being include in the upgrade. Surprised they wouldn't pick a edge suite over reflection suite. That would impact the lounge!

    Thanks for info.

I found an impressive "Amenities Grid" Excel spreadsheet published by Celebrity which has the new Sunset Suites listed.  The spreadsheet is a very large matrix that lists every available amenity (rows) against every individual suite category (columns) with check marks that show which suite classification has which amenity.

I cannot figure out a way to attach the file in its original Excel format, so I am attaching this pdf (which you will need to magnify): Amenities Grid 091719 pdf

In Celebrity's chart, the Sunset Suite is put in the same suite group as the Sky Suite and Celebrity Suite with pretty much the same amenities s those suites.  Furthermore, it appears to be ranked as being in between the two suites.

Also in this chart (dated Sep 2019), the Sunset Suite is acknowledged as being only for Silhouette which we know is not true today.

This is excellent, I cannot save your pdf can you post the original location of the grid? It would be very helpful have a copy.  To bad it didn't give you the aprox size of each cabin class.

I was chatting with friends who was on the Equinox, according to them, there were several things that did not get the full revolution upgrade.  The extra cabins (Sunset Suites?) near the Observation Lounge were not added, very little was done overall with suites,  some cabin classes did not get bathroom upgrades, just the main rooms, Casino-no gaming upgrades, etc.  I guess the damage to the docks during retrofit was pretty extensive.  Not sure what the issue is with Silhouette and why it is not getting the full revolution upgrade, unless it is just too much work for the time allocated.

    @TeeRick,

I talked to a Future Cruise Consultant during our Dec/Jan Solstice cruise.  She told me that the 4 FV cabins at the front of the ship (we were in one of them) were being converted into Sunset Suites when Solstice is drydocked for her Revolution makeover in late 2021.  Consequently I was unable to book an FV cabin for a Dec 2021 Solstice sailing.  However the Sunset Suite was available in their system to be booked.  For 4 people on a 14 night holiday (Dec/Jan 2022) holiday cruise it priced out at $25,000.  A Sky Suite was $15,000.  Based on my experience, I would have expected an FV to price out at $12,000 for that sailing.

I posted a lot of details about the S-class FV cabin and their conversion to Sunset Suites last month here: link

    ......

Hmmm,  the pricing numbers look interesting based on your info.  Here is a link to the Best of Japan Cruise on the Solstice in 2022.

    https://www.celebritycruises.com/booking-cruise/selectRoom/stateroomType?pID=SL14I152&sDT=2022-04-10&sCD=SL&sCT=CO&roomQuantity=1

This will take you too the booking window for suite classes.  Hopefully you will see a black box between the Royal Suite and the Celebrity suite.  the price is listed at $10799, the Royal is listed at $13,299 and the Celebrity is listed at $9,699.  When I contacted Celebrity they told me that the black box was in fact the Sunset suite.  Based on the pricing, it is difficult to see how the Sunset Suite would be as large as the Royal suite.  Pricing puts the Sunset only $1100 higher than the Celebrity suite and $2500 cheaper than the Royal.  If that is case, from a pricing perspective, the Sunset Suite would be a great buy over the Celebrity suite (465sqft/85sqft balcony) at 150 sqft larger & 33sqft  more balcony. It would also be a larger cabin than the average royal suite as well (538sqft/195sqft balcony).  So, if the amenities package is the same as the Celebrity Suite not the Royal then that might make up a lot of the difference, but it still feels really cheap for a suite that size. I also find it interesting that they would name a forward cabin a Sunset Suite, aren't sunset suites usually in the aft of the ship.  Oh well,  hopefully we shall see,  according the the website the first Sunset Cabin is supposed to be on the Silhouette when it get out of dry dock in Feb 2020.  What is interesting is that you can book FV cabins on the Silhouette in October 2020. Maybe the upgrade won't be put in until 2021 for the Eclipse and the Solstice.

  12. I just booked a "Best of Japan" cruise in 2022 on the Solstice and there was a black box with a price but no rooms in the selection of suites between Royal and Celebrity.  I was told by Celebrity that it was the Sunset Suite and that it was not in their system yet.  There is a quick link to the Sunset suite here on Celebrities web site but not a lot of data:  https://www.celebritycruises.com/things-to-do-onboard/staterooms/suite-class/sunset-suite.

It is my understanding that this is part of the Revolution upgrade, but was not included with the Equinox, which had a modified revolution upgrade with little to no changes to the suite class.  I was under the impression from talking with them that the first chance to see a sunset suite will be the Silhouette upgrade starting in January 2020.  They will be bringing the Equinox back for the final retrofit at a later date (to be determined later).  Not sure what they are going to do with the 2 millennium class ships that have already been refurbished.

Much as I would love a signature class on board, based on the pricing and the description, the Sunset Suite will not be a Signature suite, but looks to have the same attributes as the Celebrity suite ie (no free specialty dining and no drink setups in room).  You get most of the other perks free for the first two travelers in suite class (wifi, premium drink etc).

I am told Celebrity will announce the new suite class in about a month, I would if it will coincide with the Silhouette revolution upgrade.

  13. Ship: Royal Princess

    Date: May 1-13, 2018

    Class: Suite

    Deck: Riviera (14)

    Cabin # R730

    Category: Aft Penthouse Suite

    Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern: Port/Stern

    Connects With Cabin # No

    Accessible: No

    Quiet: Yes

Balcony Size: Along with Sister cabin largest on ship

View: From the Stern, full view, very nice

Privacy Issues: There is some issue with people looking down from deck 15,16,17 - but only at the edge of the deck

Wind: Can get windy but was not an issue at all during our cruise

Soot: Yes, no matter what has been said, we had soot almost every day when it was not raining. The cabin steward had to wash down the deck, but it still left black streaks on deck and walls. It was not a lot, but had to leave the deck during the day because the ash was falling on the deck.

Problems: If you picked this cabin because you wanted to spend time on the large deck, I would say you will be disappointed. Aside from soot, the room is spacious, well appointed, plenty of room. I will not pick this cabin again.
