  1. Sorry 'bout that. I high-lighted our "personal" favorite cocktails in green. I've removed the green high-light for better viewing and attached the latest copy of the list (Xcel spreadsheet). I'd post in PDF as well but don't have the license for creating Adobe documents (only viewing them):

There, look at those sparkling plastic straws ready to fulfill their mission on this planet, to make a vacation enjoyable and hassle free. Why do we have to ask for a straw? Why not have the people who DO NOT want straws state such while requesting the drink? Ahh, too easy and there's no PR for NCL there. But, I am ok even if I have to request a straw as long as I am provided one. However minute, this transaction will only add to the time a bartender fixes a drink.

  3. Great review. We will be sailing on her on April 22nd. We are flying into Fort Lauderdale from Richmond VA.We are

from the Staunton area. We are waiting to see if Roatan's dock will be ready for us since the ship hit it this week. Thanks again for the great review and we have also sailed on the Escape and loved it.

If you don't find it too cumbersome, can you post the daily menus from the complimentary restaurants? And/or the drinks menu. I know a lot of people will appreciate that.

  4. Confirmed! Breakaway this week did not have many straws. Yes for frozen drinks, but all others no straws. Pretty cool, NCL!

Yep, that increase in the compulsory gratuities is also to save the planet. You would prolly believe that if only to make you feel good about yourself.

Go NCL! Nickle and Dime me, but make me feel good about it.

  5. Can I ask why? For years we mostly drank our drinks without straws, now everyone seems to think we need a straw or we will get sick, lose our toe nail or some such thing.

For years we used horse carts, for years we sailed the seas with sails and oars, for years we fought each other with swords. Can we revert to that as well?

  6. Straws are of a size where they are consumed by marine life. Once lodged in their digestive systems they die. While any disposable, single use item is wasteful and a huge contributor to pollution, a focus has been on straws lately due to their size. I doubt paper cups are killing birds and fish because they are too large to be consumed by most marine life.

Here we go, a new one. You just can't reason with these people. Now the straws must be banned because they are small and "edible" to some animals.

Well, if an animal is dumb enough to eat a straw and die, it does not deserve to live. It's called natural selection. After all you don't see birds eating rusty nails because they look like worms or stones because they look like bread sometimes.

Besides, cruise lines are not supposed to dump garbage in the sea. So, there you have it, the solution. We have our straws, if we want them, and NCL helps the environment by not dumping their garbage in the sea. I have been cruising since 2003 and have never seen anyone dumping cups or trash in the sea. Why don't we concentrate our efforts on saving the planet from human population growth, from wars, from bombs, from banksters? That's where the destruction is happening.

Like one individual here said, "this is a start." A start for what? The people that talk to you about the environment only want to take your money and care little to nothing for the environment.

This straw thing is pathetic even if it really was to help the "environment." Thankfully they are not being banned outright like you want. I will use a straw with every one of my drinks that needs a straw. Besides that usage, I don't give a rat's behind about straws.

  7. Called yesterday and made the change without issue. There was a slight increase for the UBP taxes/gratuities to my overall cost but a much better value for me than the cruise excursion credit. Thanks for the help all!

See, you did not mess up after all. Don't be so quick to call your perceived shortcomings. Have fun on your cruise.

    Just a thought.

  8. I wonder if they'll fully ban plastic straws? In which case bringing your own plastic straws may not be allowed.

It's pretty easy to find paper ones now. And Amazon is full of glass and steel options.

Why do you want to impose your misguided ways on other people. THIS IS NOT TO SAVE NO ENVIRONMENT, BUT TO SAVE THEMSELVES (NCL) MONEY. You just drank another gallon (yes plastic) of cool aid.

  9. Pretty abysmal unless you really enjoy Bud/Miller/Coors products. Embarkation day was the worst. Nothing was stocked yet but Heine's...I was in hell for the first three hours.

Many thanks mate. I think I could do with this selection, but agree it is abysmal. The Escape has a beer place with ales, IPAs, stouts and other selections. What a difference from one sister ship to the other.

  10. Man, that american cockroach incident really left me stunned. I am pretty sure I have downed some roaches and bugs on some of the cruises I have taken, but at least I did not see them or feel them. Also, if it helps for the future, UBP helps to forget such a disgusting experience. I'll check my salads from now on. And you better believe it, I am making a stink if this happens to me. To the point they'll have to give me what I believe you deserve, a free 6-7 day cruise.
