1. I was on the ship last week and found it to be in excellent condition. I would not hesitation to book this ship.

We did CB a couple times, most recently in 2014 and it was a great time and the ship is in very good shape. Well maintained, clean and not many signs showing its age. As previously stated its not brand new like the Royal or Regal with all the latest bells and whistles but it's a great ship. Don't let the age deter you. Have a good cruise.

The ship is definitely showing signs of wear from the cabins to the pools to the Piazza. If people couldn't see it you would be blown away if you saw the Regal or Royal which is in top shape in comparison.

  2. I am a long-time Princess cruiser but I have also cruised on Holland America. But I'm sorry to say, I have seen a gradual decline in Princess' quality lately, both service and cuisine. And I was particularly disappointed in Royal Princess. If I was to book today I would book on Oosterdam.

The only problem with that scenario is that we'd have to start at the bottom of the benefits program and for us it would never make sense. We'd have to give up to much that's taken us years to achieve.

  3. They changed the wording a year or more ago and eliminated the "friends" from going with you - but on our last several Princess cruises our friends laughed at us as they got through their line a lot faster than we did :-)

Except that they didn't have a separate lounge to wait in with refreshments. It cam mean a lot especially if you arrive very early.

  4. I usually sent out separate bags with cleaning and laundry too, until this January when I was told that there was no more dry-cleaning on any of the Princess ships because of "environmental concerns." Odd that, since other cruise lines continue to have cleaning available. As an Elite, I find this to be a big takeaway. Is this really true fleetwide?

It still exists but in a slightly different form & under the name of "cleaning".

How do you think they clean all the uniforms of the crew that can't be washed in water?

  5. Princess (and no other cruise line other than Disney) has first run movies.

At best it is a movie that is about to come out on DVD or one that had just come out on DVD.

Yes, but don't you think it would be a big seller? I suspect people would probably be willing to pay top dollar to see them on a cruise ship.

  6. Wouldn't it be better to take a photo of the porter, so if the suitcases were lost you could provide a picture of who you handed them to.

I'm not sure it would do much good since he only places you bags in the rack and you couldn't prove otherwise. At least having an exact picture of your bag for distribution to the cabin stewards might get it back.

  7. But you can also get add'l bags. I've sent more than one bag at a time.

Also, instead of jotting down what you're sending, take photos. If something gets lost, it helps the staff find it when you can show them exactly what it is.

    Good idea.

I used to take photo's of my suitcases when we handed them to the porters so if they were "lost" we could provide a picture of them but we now carry our own bags aboard with us.

  8. Not true actually. Dockside workers are responsible for moving the cages/pallets either as far as the ship ramp or into the ship.

In most cases, other than quality/quantity checks, ships staff are not supposed to move anything on the docks (situational exceptions are always made)

    That's true......using a forklift. :D LOL

  9. There was a short period where they announced people's names on the speaker system if you missed the muster drill but that seemed to have stopped. We missed ;) the muster on the CB last cruise and only received a letter outlining the same thing they said in the video.

    Thankfully nothing about a make-up. :D

  10. On Princess, you will have to carry your lifejacket to the muster drill. It will be held in the various lounges. If you cannot stand for 20 or 30 minutes, get there early to get a good seat.

The best seats are near the door for a quick exit.:D

  11. ^quoted for truth.

Slip 'em a $20 and they'll get your gear where it is supposed to go.

    $20 ! Yea right.

btw- The only thing the porters do is move your bag from the pavement to the luggage cart. The Princess crew does most of the work and they don't get paid over $100K annually.

  12. On my last Princess cruise a few months back, they announced that first-time passengers were required to bring their lifejackets to the muster drill. For everyone else, it was optional. So yes, you will have to bring it but do NOT put it on ahead of time (they will remind you so).

I believe they tried that idea for a very short while & decided against it for some reason. Seems like it was a great idea but maybe they found it impossible to actually tell who was a first time cruiser & who was not till you checked into the muster station......and at that point it was to late to do much about it.

  13. I've often seen on the cabin steward's carts, pictures of bags that have gone missing form the start of the cruise. They all get a copy of the missing bags with a photo of what it resembles & told to keep an eye out for them. So they do lose a few now and then.

  14. The food that is being delivered is still free; it will cost you though for the convenience to have it delivered to your room. What is upsetting people is that it was brought about with no notice what so ever. Those people on the cruise ship now (only two to start with) were not told about it. Also, when we booked our trip, this was a free service and now it is being charged. It is the way that NCL did it, slipped it in without any notice for people to plan and budget for the additional cost. And to do it during Spring break with a lot of kids on board, parents don't know the new rules and bam! room service charges without knowing you had them.

So just don't use it. Seems simple enough to me.

  15. You always tip the porters well, then you will get your luggage.:)

That would be the intimidation factor you're worried about. :rolleyes:Their paid very well as a basic salary.

  16. I wouldn't worry so much about you luggage not making it on board. They lose such a small percentage of bags it isn't worth the worry. We carry ours on board only because we want to unpack ASAP but it not at all necessary.

  17.
Still means a potential thief has like 4000 possible combinations....i would not sweat it.....to many movies
Especially after 3 wrong try's the safe locks you out entirely & security has to open it with a special code while the cabins occupants are in the room. ;)
  18. I'd support getting rid of room service altogether, Princess could save a lot of staff costs that way.

They've already implemented costcutting which make the whole Princess cruise experience less special than it used to be so why not get rid of room service?

I still like Princess, booked late at firesale prices its great value.

Unless pax are confined to their cabin for Noro reasons do they really need room service with all the other options there are to eat on the ship?

You've got that right. As long as people can order as much as they like without an extra charge they don't feel any need to not waste it. Initiating a charge will save money & keep the bottom line in the black.

If you pay extra for the food you'll be less likely to just discard it.
