  1. They are saying free because you get your fare back in OBC. The cost is actually taxes and port fees, and of course gratuities and what you spend on board.

Bee careful getting there to late, parking becomes an issue at some ports when you arrive later. Have a great time.

My son is disabled so I have a placard - I usually don't have an issue with parking but thanks! I'm usually the one that likes to get there early and be first on board. Last cruise we had a separate package with Autism on the Seas and after the bridal parties we were the first people on board.

Those pesky taxes and port fees!

  2. yes Oct 8 out of Port Canaveral. Before that it will be subbing in the Elation in Jacksonville. The hurricane has caused a lot of shuffling. We booked it today.

OK - yes I do see it now. Low price for inside but at least on my end, not a free one.

Have a great time! I'm sitting at work now after doing the crazy running around and packing last night. Will leave here about 11, pick up my other son and get on the road to Jax by noon to hopefully board no later then 3. I've never boarded that late before, but it's ok. Looking forward to the getaway.

  3. I am going also. At first I logged in under Hubby's VIP # and it said he was not eligible. I put in my VIP # and it worked. He does not go to the Casino but I do so that makes sense why his VIP# does not apply. Does anyone know what time FTTF can check in for an 8 pm departure?

I have no idea why mine worked then if it's for casino guests. The woman I spoke to from Carnival this morning didn't say anything about that. I used the slot machines on one of my cruises and spent $50 - so I'm not a gambler.

I don't know about FTTF. I didn't bother with it this time since it is leaving so late (but I can't say I didn't think about it). It appears there are still lots of open cabins so I'm hoping for no long lines.

  4. I was sitting outside last night, about ready to go to bed, when an email pops up from Carnival asking if I want to take a last minute FREE CABIN cruise on Fascination leaving Thursday, 9/28. I thought it was a joke, but no .... so tomorrow we drive to Jacksonville and have a free OV cabin (of course we have port fees and gratuities which came out to about $400 for 3 of us total), but I just couldn't pass it up.

Never been on the Fascination. What can you tell me? My first cruise was the Ecstasy in 2013 so I'm assuming they are similar. Also, the ship doesn't leave until 8pm which is very unusual, but means I really don't have to miss the whole day of work tomorrow either, which is a plus.

I guess with all the cancelations from the hurricane they are just trying to fill the cabins, but I'm certainly not complaining. My kids thought I was fibbing when I told them last night we were leaving on a cruise in less then 2 days.

  5. I felt the same way and had the same thing happen a few years ago and thought I'd go back to land vacations. Big mistake, BIG!!! For us anyway! It was so full of schlepping bags hither and nigh and then the travel from one hotel to another, the traffic, the crowded highways, the big trucks trying to run us over and the lines at the concierge desk and the crowded cafe's and unavailable restaurants and charges, tipping and did I mention the packing and unpacking of the suitcases.......

I'm going to stick to unpacking once.......waking in a different country or city every day, letting someone else do the driving, with my private balcony, my same seat in the dining room every night and not having to find my wallet at every turn, when I want to eat or buy something!!!!

I wish you well on your adventures and hope that you find more joy than we did!!!!

I did lots of research on the tour company I'm using and for this particular trip as well and 95% of the feedback has been excellent. I do agree the packing and unpacking thing might me a PITA has it's 4 different stops, but I'm a pretty simple packer!

  6. I'm actually going back to land trips. Next year I have a 10 day Peru tripped booked with a tour company. Although I like cruising, the last one was just ok.

I think it's a fantastic way to vacation, but I'm ready to try something else.
