  1. Just off the Getaway last Sunday. It was our 4th times on her. DW likes Spice H2O to lay out. So, we always book a cabin near the aft elevators. A lot less walking. Anyway, as long as you don't book the cabins right there were it's open to hallway and stairs, we've never had a problem with noise at all. It's funny everyone goes for the mid ship cabins. Since there's only forward and aft elevators, that mean wherever they go they have to walk a fair way there and back all the time. We find we walk enough on our cruises. We don't need the extra steps.

  2. I'm wondering about wine choices by the glass on NCL. We will be on the Jade Feb 5 sailing. I like dry wines best and am not a fan of sweet wines. What do people think about the North and South blended wines NCL has? For those who are familiar with the Apothic wine blends these are my favorite wines (Red and Dark in particular). How would NCL brand compare to those? Thanks for any suggestions.

We drink Apothic regularly. The North and South red blend is OK. I'm not shouting from the roof tops, but it is surely drinkable.

  3. I am surprised that fellow cruisers are so presumptuous and hostile. To quote precisely from the NCL brochure 'CruiseNext UP TO US $ 500 FREE' If you don't believe me I suggest you pick up and read the Brochure. And 'No I did not receive any credit on my bill' and yes I did pay $500 and received only the equivalent (£382) as a deposit on my future cruise. I have had no response from NCL to my Emails. I can't make it any clearer

We've made this purchase multiple times over the past few years. Buying 2 cruise next certificates is billed at $500 on your account, the very next line item on the bill is always negative $250. As a result you only pay $250. The brochure is absolutely accurate. Had you decided to purchase 4 cruisenext certificates, the charge to your account, would have been $1000, with an immediate credit to your account, on the next line item, of $500( per the brochure). As long as you kept your bill from the last cruise, this should be easy proof, if you didn't get the credit. In all our cruises, I've never seen, or heard of them failing to apply the credit to the account, until now. That's how they sell them on every cruise. Good Luck.

  4. So you know, we're not huge eaters. As an example, we skip Moderno completely. After 2 meats, we'd turn our card red. That being said, we usually end up at both Pincho's and Food Republic spending $30-35 total the for 2 of us. Most all the items are meant to be shared. We have gotten a couple of servers to get us half meat and half cheese boards at Pincho's which is plenty for an appetizer for us. As a result, using SDP for meals there, given they have the up charge, would be a complete waste for us. If we bought the SDP, it would cost more to buy than meal cost, without the up charge. Just FYI.. you can order some of the appetizers at the Mondavi Wine bar, and someone will bring them over to you.

  5. I agree. We deal with companies that have their systems in order. No need to hand hold someone to do what is expected in the first place. There are too many other companies that have their act together. We never book excursions through NCL, in the first place. They are way too overpriced. Best of luck getting this straightened out.

  6. Don't think it is worth having the stock just for that small perk. I do have stock, looking money and the box not that great

If you bought it not so long ago, as we did, when it was in the low 30's. It's a great value. We take 4 cruises a year.Just the perk is more than a 10% return.

  7. We considered doing this until NCL told us the $100 OBC was not combinable with ANY special sale or fare. That the price you paid had to be the standard price. Have they finally come to their senses and let you use the OBC no matter how much you pay for the cruise?

We're always comped our cruises from CAS. We have used shareholder benefit every cruise too.

  8. Do they have any good "craft beer" on the Getaway? If so, where's the best place to find that?

Nope. Just the standard NCL bar menu. If you really want craft beer on NCL, you need to go on the Escape or the new Bliss to the district brew house. As an example, they only have draft beer at O'Sheehan's, and there are 4 of them.

  9. Which ships are the best on NCL? Newest, most premium options, best Haven area/Haven Suites, best restaurants, etc.?

Also, best water slides or rock climbing, etc for kids?

    Also, which are the worst?

All the things you asked about are better on the newer ships. The Haven area is much better with it's own restaurant. They have ropes courses, mini golf, giant slides, and most have rock climbing walls. The older ships have none of that.

  10. If you get the drink package, both passengers in the cabin must buy it. If you're a solo cruiser, you shouldn't be charged a second package. Additionally, I'm not sure if you're past final payment, but if you're not, and you've got the sail away rate. I'd check into the difference in that rate, and one that includes the drink package as a perk.

  11. I don't understand the "overheard" complaint about 18-20 year olds drinking. Is it that the parents can't use their packages to give beer and wine to their offspring without payment? Can't the 18-20 year old just pay for a couple of beers per day by the drink?

If you have an 18-20 year old as the 2nd passenger in your cabin, it's kind of a problem. If you take the UBP, and we all know both people in the cabin need to take the package, the 18-20 has to take the soda package. Even after you sign for them to be able to drink beer and wine, they won't give them the Cork and Caps package. So, NCL is saying if you want them to able to drink, they're going to pay extra for it.

  12. Just about the only difference in the Breakaway and Getaway is the hull art now. The Breakaway used to have Upton Grill, for New York. The Getaway had the Flamingo Grill Cuban restaurant for Miami. Now that they both been changed to Margaritaville, there's no other differences. There was also Illusionairium on the Getaway, and a Cirque show on the Breakaway. Again, they've made the Getaway have the same type Cirque show. As you know, the Escape is slightly bigger and an improved version of the other other two ships.

  13. Thanks. So from what I gathered checkin doesn't really matter. They will board Haven, passengers needing assistance and then Platinum & Platinum+. I just need to pay attention to the announcements. I'm usually there early. Have never been higher than group 5 but after lucking into a Vibe Pass last year its a must get going forward

Sent from my SM-N900V using Forums mobile app

There's an separate waiting area for platinum and above. Just go upstairs, don't get a group number, and walk through the waiting area, by the restrooms. Show whoever is guarding that area your key card. They'll call you after the Haven, special needs, and weddings, before starting general boarding. Last Escape cruise (We don't get Vibe passes), we were getting dinner reservations outside Le Bistro before the Vibe line even started.

  14. Thank you! This is only our second cruise and the first with the kids so I'm kind of at ground zero with cruising with kids. If it was up to my son he would be in that arcade all day and night charging up all that he could. :)

I've read horrors stories of kids spending hundreds of dollars the first day.

  15. Ok, this may be a dumb question but I'm going with it anyway.....

We are going on the Getaway on Sunday with a 10 and 8 year old. I was thinking getting them OBC to use for the things they want to get (arcade, shop, etc) may be a good idea so I don't have to keep a ton of cash for them to lose ;).

Has anyone done this with their kids and how has it worked with your kids if so.......

First off, other than the casino, the ship is cashless. So, anything they purchase, including arcade games, is charged to their cabin card. You can put a limit on what they each can spend on their card. I would recommend it.

  16. Yep, this was previously discussed. I've seen the prime rib disappear on cruises here and there over the years only to miraculously return. Time will tell if it's a permanent thing. There was one poster who said a while back that the prime rib was gone and another poster who was on the same sailing said he enjoyed it.

    So....

I sure hope it's not gone. The review of the Getaway had the dailies included. None of them had prime rib night.
