  1. The "biggest waste of time" ?

Concentrating on what's "wrong" with the _______________ (boarding process, ship, dining companions, staff, food, music, angle of the sun, air-conditioning, debarkation process, venue hours, color of the carpeting, laundry, casino, weather, movie selection, service, excursions, flights, shows, etc., etc., etc.).

Negative people need drama like normal people need air. Remain positive. Take their breath away!

Hi... I've never met you but I love you. :P Excellent point!!

My microfiber towel is 38"x20" . I have about 8 of these towels and two turbans which I bought in the spa area of TJ Maxx. I have not seen any there in the last 6 months. I swim laps everyday and use them in the locker room. When we travel we roll two towels up tight and put rubber bands around them. You can use them dry off or sit on in a dirty or sandy spot and they are light and take up little space. They wash easy and dry quickly. I read on Cruise Critic board for the $1 Store a suggestion to buy a flannel backed table cloth to lay on on the beach (flannel side up) and throw in the trash as you leave. I have not looked into this idea but it might work where you are spending more time at the beach. Places like Labadee and CocoCay we use the towels from the ship to lay on the chairs. We find them big, heavy and bulky to carry back and forth. Although I saw a good idea of some clips you can get at the $1 Store to hold the Ship towels to your chairs in the wind. They found them in the laundry area of the $1 Store.

    Oh! OK I see! Thanks!

  3. We take 2 micro towels with us to use for days at the beach. Many of the tours we take have a beach stop as part of other activities. When other people are lugging around those big bulky towels from the ship all day, we are glad we have our tiny towel inside our daypack. They rinse and dry quickly for use the next day.

Oooh I'm intrigued. Can you provide a link to amazon or similar to show what you mean? I have a great imagination, but for some reason right now (after a long day of work!) I read micro towels and all I can picture is a washcloth LOL

    Thanks!!

  4. Yes, the muster drill is held for the entire ship at the same time. Given that the drill is for what to do in an emergency, staggering wouldn't work - unless you also expect an evacuation to happen in a staggered manner.

Don't worry about having to know what to do for the drill before you board. There will be plenty of announcements making it abundantly clear what will be expected of you. More than likely the TV in your cabin will on when you arrive. The channel showing will be about what you need to know for the drill. You'd have to really work at it to be unprepared.

Oh wonderful! Good to know - thanks! :D

  5. Valid points, but you'll find they make absolutely no secret about when the muster drill will be held. For some folks, you'd figure they totally weren't expecting that might happen.

Ahhh, I see. Are these done where everyone on board must show at once, or are they staggered? I imagine for bigger ships that would take a lot of doing to get that many thousands of people together in one place at one time!

  6. Congrats on the upgrades.....

We have learned over the years with Princess that they will usually hook the newbies with fantastic upgrades then as you are more traveled with them, not so much. :(

As one of said newbies, that'd be awesome (for us on this trip)! teehee!

  7. Winnifer, I don't think I have ever seen the 'pony pouf' or 'bun spiral' before. I have seen the other spirals but have no idea how to use them. Any clues for this poor, ignorant, Brit? :D

I wish I could offer some elucidation, but unfortunately I've not seen the pony pouf before, and never tried the bun spiral. I was picturing the little spin pins when I originally posted, and found that picture on Google Images. From what I can see, the bun spiral seems to go over the bun, but I'm not sure how that secures it. And the pony pouf... no idea! haha Sorry about that! :)

  8. This is going to be our first cruise (15 days - wow; never thought *we* would go on a 15-day cruise!!) and because of the price difference we did an inside cabin. It's what we could afford. But we, too, plan on doing things outside of the room (I accidentally just typed "toom"... phonetic Freudian slip? lol), and while I also feel like I need light and air, that's what decks are for! But I may put the TV on the deck cam channel and put it on mute to imitate a window ;-)

I see SO many people on this board who swear life's just not right without a balcony and I just  and think about how nice it must be to have that kind of cashola. I figure, as many have said, by booking an indoor, it doesn't bankrupt us so we can be more likely to afford to cruise again in the future! ;-)

It's refreshing to see people who are totally cool with being indoorsers lol

  9. I'm with you here. It's not the muster by itself, it's waiting for people who seemed surprised it was going to happen.

FWIW, I'm a first-time cruiser and am just now learning about the muster. Maybe don't be so quick to judge and assume everyone knows the same things you do? This is a huge learning experience for me, and I'm glad I found this forum so I know about these things ahead of time! :)

  10. I have waist-length hair and intend on bringing some hair ties, clips, and pens. I'm one of the lucky ones who's able to put my hair in a secure bun with a chopstick or stick pen :) Maybe some of those bun spirals or similar would be of use. I love those!
