First I have heard of it too...
Been on Harmony and didn't know about it!! LOL
What is a Ball Drop?
Me too! Second time on Harmony will be in 5 days.

How funny! I’ve been on enough Royal cruises to be Diamond and had no idea they did a balloon drop at midnight.

I'm glad to find this thread. I've been reading all the sensationalized headlines and it's crazy what news outlets will do for a *story*. Nice to see cooler heads prevailing here. 🙂
I was on Escape during the inaugural season and it was a very "creaky" ship -- there were noises we heard that week that I've never heard before or after. Sounded like settling or coming apart -- obviously it wasn't!
Off to find the twitter stuff now!

That's if you're buying just a single day ... same as line 1 of the larger chart in post 20.
Ah...thank you. 🙂

I can't find the second photo you are talking about, but the chart in post 20 is correct. A 7 day cruise premium plan would be $139.99.
As far as WiFi calling, I have used both What's App voice and Vonage VOIP on the premium plan. I have also used What's App voice on the surf plan.
Post 22 is the second photo I was talking about. Wow...$139.99 is surprisingly reasonable! And it's unlimited? That's great!!
I've never tried WhatsApp, but in the past on some other lines I've been able to use my phone's wifi-calling feature (along with texting). Thanks!
-
Okay, so the two photos here seem to have different pricing. For a 7-night voyage, would premium be $140 or $210?
Has anyone tried to use Wi-Fi calling with the internet? I've found it works on some cruiselines and not others.
-
That's odd placement.

There is obviously a difference between "we'll do everything possible" and "we guarantee". Based on my Superstorm Sandy experience, our problem was that we were in jeopardy of losing out on the four days precruise in Rome. If I had not taken extraordinary effort, we would have arrived in Rome right before our cruise and missed out on that important part of our trip. Air2Sea would have still lived up to their promise, but I would have been horribly disappointed and I doubt even travel insurance would have helped since we would have been delayed three days, but at home.
Huh?

Are there no beaches or pools in Falmouth? Only shops? Which all- inclusive ( s) have you tried & how much $$ were they? Thanks!
Big Al
$99-$139 per person. Deposit paid ahead, balance paid on arrival.
Have not tried it, but considering Hyatt Zilara for this trip...or maybe one in Cozumel.

Great review so far!

We will have a crown loft suite in September, so no genie for us. I'm curious as to the beverages available in the lounge. Can you take them out? Can you get bottles of water and the like?
-
Sadly an issue that could easily have been avoided with better communication.
Agreed, but the TA says he/she wasn't aware of the change before the client called. That could very well be true. We may sit and monitor our individual bookings, but a TA doesn't have time to check every booking every day to watch for changes that shouldn't be happening in the first place.
-
So you think the TA is in the business of upsetting (alienating) a paid in full long time customer just to appease the needs of someone who isn't even a customer?
In my experience a large corporation is amoral and will say pretty much anything that helps it accomplish its raison d'etre, profit.
EXACTLY! It would hurt the TA much more than Royal to screw a customer.
-
I think the only thing "telling" is that RCI was concerned to keep you happy....your TA could have cared less...that is "telling" to me. They both should have offered a bit of something...regardless.
I don't know...RCI makes a heck of a lot more money than a TA does. Seems like if they're offering something, perhaps they are the guilty party.
-
Out of curiosity, what stateroom number were you in originally? And which ship?
Glad you are satisfied mostly with the outcome. I think it's telling that Royal offered compensation.
-
But what if the TA didn't know? If you make a mistake at work, do you pay out of your wallet? I'm just saying that because the cruise line says the agent knew, doesn't mean that's true. I've had instances of them blaming the agent when I knew for a fact it wasn't the case.
-
Some OBC and realization that they would be fired if anything like this happened again.
$25? $50? How much? I guess I'm trying to understand how much would make it "okay"? Especially if one can't PROVE that it was the TA at fault.
-
And there's the reason they are in business - making nice with customers comes after. As long as you understand and accept that, you won't have any further disappointments.
Biker, who in this case would have a chat with the TA and potentially sever ties if the outcome is not favorable.
Curious what would be considered a favorable outcome?
-
If the other cabin in same category was available why did RC not use that one instead of taking Ops?
As mentioned, perhaps occupancy? Or could have been an accessible cabin that was selected but not needed.
-
The OP says the move was same category. While it stinks, I don't believe compensation is warranted.
-
Not only is the food better, but I hear luxury lines don't encounter bad weather!
They wouldn't dare!!
Seriously, I can't speak to the food on Anthem, as I've never been. Most mainstream cruiselines don't have fabulous food unless you pay a little extra. I mean, it's pretty good, but nothing stellar. If someone is looking for stellar, they need to move it on up.
-
OK< IF YOU HAVE ENJOYED THE "FOOD" ON ANTHEM......... SO BE IT! I am entitled to my opinion and I know good food. Royal Caribbean needs
CHEF RAMSEY to survey and comment and imporve on ANTHEM OF THE SEAS FOOD QUALITY. I was tired of eating sub par food.
Again, you are entitled to your opinion and so am I.
Perhaps a more upscale line would be more to your palate's liking.

Okay. At this point, actual news is pretty much not going to be a thing. I will, of course, post anything of substance that is reliably reported by a member of Senior Staff. But, I am at this point tired of reading all the blamers so will probably absent myself from this thread in a general sort of way. I leave you with:
The Captain was always honest as to the situation.
Knowing something about storms, I completely believe a minor storm took a turn for the worst.
The Captain and Crew have done a brilliant job ok keeping life and ship safe given an incredibly hideous situation NOT OF THEIR MAKING. They continue to do all they can to keep us safe and comfortable.
They have rescheduled all the cancelled shows from yesterday.
They opened all the bars for free booze from 1 til 2 this afternoon.
I am, for the most part, also very proud of the passengers on this cruise.
Thank you for taking the time to update everyone. Safe journeys!! :)
-
I hope all aboard stay safe and sane. It's so incredible to see how differently people in the same situation react to the same set of circumstances. There will always be positive outlooks and negative ones.
Kudos to those staying positive!!
Just heard from a friend onboard -- she said while last night was hellacious, the captain and crew did a great job.
