  1. So glad to hear you are cancer free! Enjoy your trip and have a wonderful time.

Last year I took my aunt on a cruise for beating cancer. She had never been on a cruise before. When she was going thru treatments I told her I would take her on a all expense paid cruise when she got the ok from her DR. She just loved the trip and told me it really helped her to have it to look forward to while going thru her treatments. She would call me after treatments and we would discuss things like where she wanted to go and so forth.

She is still cancer free and doing great.

That was a very caring gesture on your part and I am so sure it helped her during some horrendous times during treatment. Kudos to you. Hope she is doing well.

  2. I just booked NCL Bliss for Nov. 3-17, 14 night Panama canal ocean to ocean. I booked a sail-a-way balcony so although I don't know where I'll be on the ship it will be a balcony!

Sounds wonderful. Have a great cruise and enjoy that balcony!

  3. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I just booked another solo cruise myself today. The only problem with booking solo is once you start going solo you may never want to take anyone with you again! clear.png?emoji-grin-1677

I totally agree with your comment. It's just so much more peaceful because you have to wait on no one. I am going on Grandeur from Baltimore to Bermuda the end of October but my husband is going along this time because it is my one year anniversary of finding out I had ovarian cancer. I am now cancer-free.

  4. I am newly single and will be sailing Princess out of San Francisco to Hawaii solo. I am looking forward to all aspects of the cruise with one exception. I am concerned that I will feel lonely being solo with all the couples and groups around. I know I can find a lot to do. And what about dining?

    I am mid 50s

Lucky you! That, to me, is the only way to go. I have done many solos and enjoyed each and every one of them. I have met many people who I have befriended an even joined one on a cruise a few years ago on a 12-day cruise from Rome to Monaco, Greece, Turkey and Egypt on Costa Concordia, which met its fate off of Italy. As for dining, you can ask for a large table where you can mingle with others or you can eat at the buffet. So many choices for you and am anxious to hear how it goes. Bon Voyage!

  5. Sending you all my best wishes...........

If I can give you some positive thoughts, I was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia in the summer of 2016,....mine is

not terminal and I take a form of oral chemo (4 pills a day).......my white count is now in the good range so my meds

are working and hoping your chemo will work too.

Thanks so much Lois. Glad to hear your meds are working.

  6. I have just been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and my treatment of chemo is soon to begin. To entice me, my husband said we will go on a river cruise after my treatment is completed. Is there a better incentive for me to push on? Praying this comes to fruition.

  7. I've cruised solo a number of times, most recently on the NCL Jade in January-February. The Jade wasn't great at getting singles together, but I'll try again.

Just booked my next solo trip on NCL Spirit for the Greek Islands Oct. 22 - Nov. 2, 2017

Anyone else going Greek this fall?

You will love Spirit. I did on my solo way back in 2008. Jealous! Have a great time.

  8. Well, here it is almost 2017 and I just ran across this wonderful thread. I feel compelled to tell Egon's son that after all this time, your father is still making an impression on people. There are very few people who make a real difference in this world and he is one of those people! He has made an impact on my life, and obviously many others who followed his adventures. Thank you to Pat and everyone who posted on here. You are wonderful people to take the time to do this! Happy Holidays to everyone!

Thank you. Steve Landsberg can be found on Facebook as well.

  9. Thanks for the information! I will look into doing some of the things you mentioned. I'm actually sailing on Carnival but for my next cruise I'm considering NCL.

One of my experiences was a little perplexing once I got out of the tourist area walking. I was certain that I was being followed so I found 2 other tourists and asked if I could walk with them back into town and I did. Only time I felt threatened. Junkanoo Beach is very nice and clean. It didn't use to be. They have a little bar area with umbrellas and sofas on the beach. This was in Nassau BTW.

  10. I guess a TA isn't for everybody who travels solo. That fact, also, for me, isn't just airfare. It's also the fact that it only visits 3 ports, 2 if I left from Lisbon. I tend to like a port intensive type of cruise. I travelled on Costa Concordia back in 2009 before its demise and the English language was 5th on the announcements. I still could find persons that I could communicate with when I wished to do so. I guess to go on this cruise, you really have to want peace and quiet to yourself in order to make it a success to your liking.

  11. Pullmantour Monarch (formerly Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas). She is sailing Bilbao Spain to Colon Panama with stops in Lisbon, St. Martin and Aruba for 16 nights from 17 September to 2 October. The cost for an inside stateroom is $250! While they usually charge per person, this is also the Solo Rate! There is a $210 charge for port fees and taxes. But, they are including the unlimited drink package including cocktails, wine and beer. This is the best deal I've seen if you can deal with the air.

  12. Hi Dad, where are you now? Year Two since you undertook your Final voyage...

Your presence continues as inspiration. Love you always, miss you forever.

    Your son ~ Steve xo

Happy Valentines Day Steve! I often think of Egon and the good times we had on here and through e-mail. I believe he would have celebrated another birthday the beginning of this month, right? I am so thankful I go to "know" him.
