  1. Hi Dad, where are you now? Year Two since you undertook your Final voyage...

Your presence continues as inspiration. Love you always, miss you forever.

    Your son ~ Steve xo

I have not and will not ever forget your father. He was my buddy from day one and had so much fun talking and teasing each other. Egon...hope they have the grandest piano wherever you are.

  2. Hi, My name is Beera. I'm in my 50's. I'm taking my first solo cruise April 12 on the Breakaway. I am excited but nervous as I don't know what to expect!

Don't expect anything. Let your mind and body direct you and you will have a fantastic cruise. All troubles float away. Nothing like staring out at the ocean without someone looking over your shoulder. Look in your mirror and say, "I did it all by myself"!

  3. Hi Linda, thanks...I will move forward to my upcoming cruise to Alaska

in May. I think it will be more of what I am accustomed to (one can

    only hope).

But yes.....this one was very, very disappointing.

Awe Lois. So sorry about your recent spoiled cruise. March is a good time to go overseas, but never for solitude because it's mostly college kids (not all) who don't care what anyone else thinks. I am quite sure your Alaska cruise will be back to your "normal".

  4. Hi Dad, a full year has come and gone.

I do hope - nay expect - that your Journey and Adventures

continue to be of inspiration and compassion.

    Love ~ Steve

Just look in a mirror Steve and you will see him. He was loved by many as well as an inspiration to us all.

  5. I am looking at booking a Christmas cruise. I will be on the Royal Princess in May an would like to wait and book on board but if getting low on cabins then I might have to bite the bullet and book before I go.

Is there a way to see how many cabins are available on a cruise?

    Thanks

The only way I know is to do a fake booking and it should show you how many are available.

  6. Hi:) I have never sailed from Barcelona.....the cruise to the Med I took?

Sailed from Ciccavechia (Sp)......I stayed in Rome pre-cruise.

Thank you. I sailed from Civitavecchia as well and stayed at a hotel right at the Pantheon. Would do it all over in a heartbeat~

  7. OK, here is my two cents on this. I do have a partner now and we enjoy cruising very much, but, I would not hesitate to travel/cruise alone. I consider it a treat to myself for all the ups and downs that life seems to throw in our paths. Also, I think I work hard for my money so I'm not going to let anyone spoil or take away from me having a great cruise! its just not worth it. Another way to look at it is this,,, you may be thinking that all the couples at your table is talking about you there single,,,, but consider how many of those people are wishing they were you,,, able to come and go as you please, do what you want and not answer to anyone,,, instead they are "stuck" with their partner either through finances or fear of the unknown and are mostly unhappy with their lives. So ! If you have a partner enjoy it,,,,, if your going solo, enjoy that too, life is too short ! :-)

I totally agree with you. On more than one occasion crossing paths with the "wishing people", I have seen them dickering back and forth and I just look them in the eye and say, "that's why I leave mine at home". You don't always have to be joined at the hip.

  8. I am 50-something and about to take my third solo cruise. I have been married for almost 40 years. I absolutely love it! It is a bit lonely at times, but also very liberating.

If you're 50-something and married for almost 40 years, that means you were married at age 10??? I'd say you deserve a cruise to anywhere!!

  9. I just found out today through another post that Egon had passed away (not sure how I became unsubscribed to this thread). So sad to hear. He was a wonderful man with an amazing life. May his memory always be a blessing.

And today is his birthday as well!

  10. I hope so Steve. My father drove, walked, did all the normal daily activities up until the day he died. He died in his sleep after being "tired" in a nursing home.

He lived in the nursing home just since June. His dog died the month after him and the dog was 19.

Sorry Doug! I miswrote "Steve". Steve is Egon's son, as we all know.

  11. Thank you, Pat, for again remembering and reminding us about this incredible man!

And, once again, sincere condolences on the loss of your father. It sounds like he was also one amazing and vital person! (Seems like his dog felt the same way about him and simply didn't want to continue on without him.)

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!

Thank you Sharon. Your area that you live in is on my bucket list in the next year. Hopefully, I will make it there.

My mother told us if she died before her cat to please bury the cat with her if we could. She died exactly one month to the day that her cat died and "Puddy" was buried with her at her request.

    Happy New Year!

  12. Happy New Year, my friends at Cruisecritic! May 2013 be good to you, keep you in good health and happy, and afford you nothing but smooth sailing -er- crusing! Many have sent Christmas Cards and good wishes, which did a lot to my Christmas spirit, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am indebted to Terri Sanders, Fran Gawron, Brenda (Ottawa), Kathy Dayka, Roberta (Marlborough MA), Shauna Mahony, Barbara Elliott, Jo-Anne Herbeck (bless her, she sent 2 Cards!), Joyce Barden, Douglas Partridge, Burm, Gail, Arlene and my drearest friend Patty Roos, who instigated at all!

I am looking forward to this year with mixed feeling. You know already I have bladder cancer, but in view of my age (I'll be 96 in a month) I don't see any value in having chemo or massive doses of radiation. So I have the intention to opt for a Cystoscopy every 5 month or so.

The other thing is my lack of speech - sure it has improved but forget it if you want intelligent conversation. I also hope that my memory loss in music will be better - I sometimes can no longer remember the beginning, or the end or the middle of it - though I doubt that many people notice, I am pretty good at faking! Over Christmas I had a Sing-Along. They have a digital grand piano here, which is also a keyboard and has an excellent organ voice. This is made by Susuki. Isn't it funny that ths company and Yamaha are equally famous for the motorcars and their musical instruments? I play each night after Dinner for 20 minutes and people love it

But, it could be worse. Apart from a persistent backache I have no pain. I am comfortable of where I live, and have a loving son who with his friend Joyce look after me. And most of all, I have FRIENDS, not only from cruisecritic but a lot more from my 1½ years cruising.

    All good wishes,

    Egon

Lifting my glass to one amazing man who is missed! I, as many others on CC I'm sure will do the same.

  13. My friend is trying to tempt me into travelling with him 'round the world, 2 TA's FLL to BCN, flying to Dubai, winding up in Vietnam and then Tokyo and another TA to Vancouver. Dear Santa: I've been a good girl this year, not gambling for the past 6 months and what I would have lost in those 6 months is the same amount for me travelling 'round the world with a good buddy of mine who is lots of fun and easy going. Yours truly, Patty.:D:D:D

  14. Pat - I'm so sorry you lost your father, that's never easy.

Who knows, maybe he's already met Egon on the other side.

I hope so Steve. My father drove, walked, did all the normal daily activities up until the day he died. He died in his sleep after being "tired" in a nursing home.
