  1. Just got the rejection email. Both bids were in good range. Balcony was 185.00 , mini suite 250.00. To ad insult to injury, last night GTY balcony were 150.00 less than OV we booked. Will enjoy the cruise, but the bidding process can be frustrating. Especially when in the last 3 days all the posts with very low bids being taken, 5 weeks out.

Wow- then more money to spend on the ship! This is a frustrating process. I like the days when I could just call up and ask for it and they said yes for this price.

  2. Hi, how do you check to see which are available. On Ncl.com, it looks like a lot of the categories (non-Haven) say they will fill with a "Guarentee" since it's close to the sail date. Is there another web site to use?

I check The Captain Kirk site- since we are not allowed to promote other sites here rice-line

  3. Under 4 hours to the 48 hour deadline. Tweaked last night, so I gave it my best shot. Crazy to see all the posts of getting upgraded 30+ days out. Bidding 50.00 for balcony and getting it. Hoping for the best but just printed out my luggage tags.

  4. My bid for a family suite (SJ) was just accepted for the Dawn on 10/27. Do I get all of the perks associated with this cabin just like as if I booked it or is it just an upgrade of the room only?

Congratulations! And yes you get all the perks meaning butler and concierge, etc

  5. The problem with starting those meds a couple days prior to cruise is that they have side effects. I'd bring along and take if you started to get woozy. Also bring some ginger candy- Trader Joe's has some. If you plan on the medicine then you're not supposed to drink.

Recently on a sailing that had rougher seas than anything I've experienced and we were high and forward. We didn't need medicine and did fine with ginger candy. Cabin steward said we were the only cabin in his section that wasn't sea sick. Even steward was sick. I think it was the ginger candy that saved us.

Ginger candy is the best I heard

  6. No Haven on NCL Dawn. Did a big up bid on the mini suites. Not to many left. But if people are bidding on full suites, might have a few to go back in upgrade pool. Im thinking should know by this time tomorrow as will be 72 hours before sailing. Lol, my wife just texted me about the upgrade. Didn't want one last week.

Yes you are right no Haven on Dawn I have to get used to that. Again the reason why DH is not coming this time around. Yes I see my mini is still available

I told my sister that I withdrew the bid so I can pay for the next cruise and did not want to tie up that much money on my card so she said hell I want a suite so what do I do we put it on her Credit card she put in a low offer and bam today she got it about an hour ago. Funny thing is I bid higher than what she just did.

  8. True. Was very happy were we booked. As it my 1st NCL cruise, was surprised when 80 days out got the upgrade email. Figured the Oct 27th sailing was not a prime date, so they would have some unsold cabins. Then all the storms hit and figured not as much last minute booking. So if its not in the cards, no problem. Plus will be cold coming and going back. Still, would like the extra room as dawn's cabins on the small side. Lol, my wife can care less and would kill me to find out I increased the bids a few times already.

For those who booked the October 27th cruise to Bermuda on the Dawn check your accounts the upgrade has begun

  9. On the ship (Oasis two weeks ago) $57.00 a bottle. I bought in the port in Falmouth Jamaica for $45.00

I’m glad to see prices going back down. I will be in the Dawn this Friday I hope they have it their for a good price

  10. Didn't check the prices while we were onboard, just noticed they had it in stock. Several people were purchasing Perhaps someone else will chime in.

In the meantime I found this old thread. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2137190

The price is now 65 a bottle since they keep selling out of it. I remember when it first became popular PR would have it in stores for 33.00 a bottle. I would bring it back to the states and everyone loved it.

  11. I just got the upgrade email to move from an inside to an ocean view or balcony. This is the first time I have been offered the opportunity to bid in three cruises on NCL. I currently put in a bid for both upgrade options but have one question. If an offer is accepted it is automatically processed, correct? I ask because I would be happy with any balcony upgrade but there are some OV rooms I probably don't want. I prefer higher floors, currently booked on 13 forward. I'm not sure I would want an OV if it is on floor 5 or right below a noisy venue. Should I remove that bid and just keep the bid for the balcony upgrade? Thanks!

When bidding for an upgrade you will have know way of knowing where your room will be. So if I were you I would rescind my bid on the OV rooms because once they process your payment and assign you a cabin it’s yours to keep.

  12. Thanks - any cruises on your horizon booked ? Going to have 310 minutes/1GB+ ship WiFi data onboard this time so will probably just do a scaled down "Semi Live" update at sea, as there isn't much new to share/report on this milky run again ... maybe do some Q&A. Will see, any ideas or suggestions.

Hmmm, my morning caffeine hasn't kick in yet, but what am I missing here ?? [emoji782]

How does one possibly cancel or withdrawn any & all upgrade bids 80 days from 18th of March, 2018 ?? - which would be around 28th of December, 2017 and it is still October ... unless there's some sort of special UK or Euro bidding/upgrade options that we aren't aware of ?? I understood that there are special booking terms & provisions via NCL Europe, etc. etc. But, whatever.

    -------------------------------------------------

Footnote to our successful balcony upgrade, the silly poor bid of ours was done by late Monday, at 13 days out (completed from "processing" in less than 18 hours) - charges weren't even posted or "pending" on the credit card that we used for making the offer ... a was a long wait from the 80 days mark. Our BIL's got accepted & upgraded almost 2 weeks earlier from Inside to Balcony, they booked around 75 days & right after full payment, got their email offer to upgrade within 24 hours, LOL.

Ours is a "BD" (sleep up to 4) on Deck 9 AFT, almost by the elevators & stairs, super convenient to actions on 6-7-8 ... might be a little noisy in the evening as it's over the Waterfront by Cagney's ... but, we are typically night owls & all the outdoor smokers should be starboard on the opposite side. Cool spot, I think, to be on lookout for pier runners. The OV (IB) that sleep 2 has been released for new booking and/or to be assigned to someone upgrading from an Inside ... prices aren't really dropping either, unless it's a Sail Away - GTY.

For the typical OV, Balcony or even Mini-Suite "UA" bids - if NCL quickly took your offer and accepted it, chances are ... you make them a high bid that they simply couldn't refuse, ran with the money before you changed your mind & lower the $$. Of course, all that matters ... you are happy with moving up in the category, as there is no magical formula to it - the frenzy is for those aiming for Haven.

So let me try and make myself clear as I have totally messed up what I was trying to get across. I am sailing out on the dawn on October 27, 2017. I had placed several Haven advantage bids for this cruise. I have since withdrew those bids. Why because I will now use said monies to pay to be in the haven on my upcoming cruise i just booked on the breakaway March 18, 2018.

  13. Well that's one way of getting what you want. Was it much more than your bid? When I called my TA for just paying to upgrade it was 2x what I felt it was worth. So Im leaving my bids and will know within the week. Glad im happy of were we booked, so no problem if not taken.

Because the cruises I take are CAS comped cruises it wasn’t really much more I kept it at a 50% discount on my bid from the actual price
