  1. Has anyone ever used Wyndham timeshare points to book an NCL cruise? How good is the selection?

I am a Diamond Resorts Int. member and we can also use our points for a cruise on NCL. I have not done it because it takes a ridiculous number of my points to book a cabin and I'd rather use my points for land vacations. I have heard of others making the exchange, though. If you have a lot of points to use, it may be a worthwhile booking. However, people often complain that the selection is very limited. In addition, at least with my TS, the cost of making a cruise selection with my points, plus considering my MF of $2000 plus is much higher than if I simply book a cruise on my own. If you are a member of Interval International, you can also make a cruise exchange through them. II also offers cruise exchanges to other cruise lines. II has a great community forum. There is a section on it devoted just for cruises. So you can get more information there.

  2. I have a teen with high functioning autism She did not feel comfortable in the teen room and had problems with some of the noise and sometimes frenetic activities on the ship. Many of the teens on the ship were not nice. They were off on their own without parent supervision because they didn't like the teen club either. My daughter needs down time to decompress when she feels overwhelmed. I took along her iPad which was preloaded with several movies and she had her hand-held gaming system. She especially had difficulties in the evenings because many adults were partying and loud and teens were often roaming the ship.

  3. the slot for the card is right by the door as you enter, so there really should be no issue about the room being dark.you put the card in the slot before you close the door. I used an old card that i kept in the slot at all times, just cut the lights off when you leave the cabin. Sometimes i would leave the light over the bed on at night when i left the room.

Thank you for the suggestion and reassurance. I am not afraid of the dark, but am more concerned about security if I am by myself.

  4. If this is a repeat question, my apologies. The search function doesn't appear to be working for my computer.

I have the UBP and would like to try to ice bar. I have read that the entrance fee includes two drinks. But since I already have the drinks at no cost, do I get a prorated entrance fee or do I simply suck up the extra cost. Is the ice bar worth the extra cost? Thanks again for your opinions and advice.

  5. Also, bear in mind you do not need an actual keycard, any credit card sized card will do, whether or not it has a magnetic strip. So you can leave a card in there while you're gone to keep your outlets on and charge your phone. Some room stewards will remove the card if you leave it, some will not.

Great idea! Thanks for passing on the suggestion. I think the hardest thing is going to be to remember to take the key card out of the slot before leaving the room so I don't get locked out!

I have one concern for this system. I don't like walking into a totally dark room when I am by myself at night. Has anyone who has had experience with the keycard electricity control had any issues with the room being too dark on entering? I may consider taking along a couple of those battery powered tea light candles just for a little extra light.

Thank you all for your response. Can't wait for the cruise. It's cold and snowy here!

Sorry for the double post! Something happened to my computer and I didn't think the first one went through.

  7. On my previous cruises, there was a menu at the bar that included maybe 8 - 10 specialty drinks. These were the ones being promoted by the ship. They were good, but expensive (generally ranging from $10 to $12 on up). Perhaps with the pricing changes, as others have stated, the ship is limiting selections for th UBP because bartenders are unsure of what to charge. From a public relations standpoint, NCL should have given bartenders some allowance for those who have the UBP. Better to be a little generous upfront and keep people happy than deal with the anger and backlash from those who feel ripped off.

Anyway - I remembered that I had seen a list of alcohols included in the UBP somewhere and did a search. Here's a link to that page for those of you who are interested:

BTW - It's a 2014 list, but it will still give everyone a general idea of what to expect for the package.

  8. When you look at the cost of the beverage package per day, you would have to drink a lot of alcohol to get your money's worth. My husband and I don't drink that much, but we like to have a drink or two/day. We don't drink soda. Ultimately, it's cheaper for us to pay for each drink separately. I only have the package for my next cruise because it was a promo and even with only two drinks a day, it gave me the most benefit. (We are with a large group, so I was not interested in the dining package since we would not be able to eat together).

  9. There a lots of shops inside the resort and around the area. It's a little bit of a hike to get to Atlantis from the water taxi, so wear comfortable shoes. We were there last summer and it was around $79.00 to get into the aquarium and grounds areas. Security wouldn't let us go much further than the doors. If you decide to pay for the aquarium, go early. There was a long line of people waiting to buy tickets by 11:00. BTW - If you like ice cream, there's a Ben and Jerry's in the little village area before you get to the resort. Good eating on a hot day!
