  1. We enjoyed the crater at sunset on Maui. It was spectacular and romantic. We also really liked the Atlantis submarine in Maui. In Kona we did the Big Island snorkel and really liked that too. I read somewhere that Kona has some of the clearest waters in the world for snorkeling, and this tour even had a couple scuba suits with the jet propeller things. These were all NCL tours but we went over New Years 2014 so some may have changed.

  2. Depends on where you want to go. I started looking into Alaska May/June 2018 one year ago (June 2015) and they didn't release until Jan. 2016. I did notice Hawaii Summer 2018 was available at that time and some of Europe was available several months before Alaska was.

  3. You are such a saint! I am on this sailing for 2018. Getting married in Juneau! One thing I can't seem to find is a recent room service menu. We are cruising a mini suite but would love to have breakfast on our balcony on Glacier Bay, even if it costs a little extra. I've seen the newer ones posted for the away class ships, but like most things, haven't heard if Pearl is still using the old ones. :D Many thanks in advance!!! Enjoy your cruise!

  4. We did Hawaii around Christmas time a few years back. All the excursions we did were through NCL.

In Maui day 1 we did the Haleakala Crater at Sunset Tour which was great. The sunset was beautiful all the way up the mountain. Pictures were worth the $90pp IMO

In Maui on day 2 we did the Atlantis Submarine and Lahaina on your own. The submarine was sooo cool! We saw all kinds of great sea life, including sharks and pufferfish. This made our city tour shorter than it could have been, but I honestly don't remember much about the town, which says a lot about how the submarine stuck with me. This was my favorite thing.

In Hilo we did the Volcano and Rainbow Falls excursion. This took us to Volcano National Park, Rainbow Falls, Akatsuka Gardens, and Maura Loa Macadamia Nut Factory. I felt like we were herded through. We saw beautiful places and the factory was a lot of fun, but this tour had at least 4 bus-fulls who each went to the attractions in a different order. It was fun but not in a "we are on vacation, no need to rush" way. Each venue felt crowded.

On Kona we did the Big Island Snorkel. The waters here were so very clear. The fish were beautiful. They even had suits for SCUBA and the motorized propeller units for a few people at a time. There was a little bar on the boat. We saw dolphins and some kind of whale. This was easily my fiance's favorite thing we did on the cruise.

As for Kauai I don't think I will be much help. On the full day we rented a car. On the half day we took the bus to town for shopping. It was a cute little town. Very touristy for shopping.

I hope this helped! Have fun. Hawaii was beautiful. Make time the visit north shore on Oahu. Fresh shrimp from the little stands on the side of the road on your way there.... to die for! Turtle Cove was very cool. We did two luaus. One was at Paradise Cove, the food was authentic and amazing! Also if you like hiking, Diamond head is challenging but also by far the best photo I got on my entire vacation!

  5. Yes! We picked the Ruby for her itinerary. She seems like a lovely ship. Would love to see the inside of Vines and Skywalkers. Most of my ceremony is off the ship in Juneau. Just trying to find a good place for the after party. Probably 20-30 prople cruising with us. I am also curious how you are finding the food at dinner time. What venues are you using? Are you signed up for traditional, anytime, or club class?

Thank you again for the wonderful info!

  6. We are spreading the word so anyone who wants to come on our cruise can. Plus if we get a certain amount to join us we get perks. This is much more reasonable since we are not having any reception or using the cruise line to plan anything. Therefore, we will not incur any charges dependent on how many guests join us. Ceremony will be done by a third party in Juneau, and we will eat as a group in MDR, definitely later in the evening so it will be easier for their staff. We have asked the guests joining us on the cruise not to buy us wedding gifts; after all, a cruise is pricey. I'm sure we will end up buying the cruise guests a round or, at the very least, a group toast. When we return home, we will have a party at the local American Legion (my dad is a veteran). We will purchase food and likely a couple kegs. It will be open-house, with the video of our ceremony playing with a slide show and no dancing (that's one of many reasons we are choosing to cruise).

  7. We were thinking we would do customized lanyards with our names and date on them. We previously cruised NCL, who will punch a hole in your cruise card so you can hang it from a lanyard, but with Princess we are wondering how useful they will be. Anyone know?

  8. I don't think they will let you skip the movie. They take your tickets as you enter the theater. After the movie you exit through the opposite side of the theater. Then you board the boat which takes you over to the memorial. If you don't think you will have time for Pearl Harbor I would suggest seeing the USS Utah. It is not a ticketed site. Just a little dock with a memorial. There is also a nice view of the missile defense system.
