If they do book a cruise JUST for a burger, they are NOT VERY SMART.  I think this may be your opinion, but no factual statement.

I've been on on several Carnival cruises, and I book based on amenities on board, especially Guy's restaurant, and I consider myself to be pretty smart.  Carnival always has multiple ships sailing the same itinerary, so I weigh the on board amenities before booking.  I will ALWAYS book a ship with a Guy's burger joint over a ship without one.  Of course that isn't the only deciding factor in which ship I cruise on, I also look at home port and ease of access whether flying or driving.

It is probably the same answer as to why they have zero ships sailing Alaska in the winter.

Because it's dark and frozen during that time?  Because it isn't a popular vacation destination during that time frame?

    hmmm....I don't think so

Wouldn't the fact that there is only 1 ship make it easier to book an NCL Cruise? If there were multiple ships, sailing from multiple ports, doing multiple itineraries, on different days it seems that it would actually make the decision making process more difficult.

I meant that it makes it hard for me to justify cruising with Norwegian to go to destinations I have already been to.  I like variety in my vacations.

  4. The first time we took advantage of the 50% off offer on the Glory, my wife and I drank 1 bottle that night in the steakhouse and our waiter allowed us to purchase a second bottle at the same discount and stored it so we could enjoy it in the MDR later in the cruise.

We tried the same thing on our next cruise on the Breeze, and our waiter said only 1 bottle is allowed.

Finally on our next cruise on the Miracle, our waiter allowed us to buy a second bottle at a discount.

It seems to be a cruise-time decision, which doesn't bother me any.  We enjoy our cruise either way.  Hell, we're on vacation, if we want a drink at dinner, we buy it.

  5. I got engaged to my wife in the steakhouse on Glory in 2015.  That ship is special to us both.  The Conquest ship class is probably my favorite class of ship I have sailed on with Carnival.  On our Glory cruise we had a regular scenic ocean view, the grand scenic rooms were already booked up, but we made friends with the people next door and got to check out their room.  It is on the list for the future for sure.

I wish you well with a bed configuration request.  We cruise Carnival a lot and for everything they do well we find that they get a grade of "F" for bed configuration.  Almost always it is not as we ask at booking.

So the Steward, on the busiest day of his week has to change it.  They always do and with a smile!  We have talked with Stewards and the word does not filter down to them.   Housekeeping supervisors say the same and have shown us their orders.  We love Carnival and the product they give us but they fail in this one area.

I've been on 6 Carnival cruises, and never once had the bed not configured how it was requested on checking in.

  7. I'll agree with things others have said about spa cabins, at least on the Dream class ships.  Access to the spa and the thermal suites is great.  My wife and I used the thalassotherapy pool every day, multiple times per day.  Our favorite was to go in the last 30 minutes or so before the spa closed for the night.  We never had anyone there with us, and it was just a peaceful way to wind down the day.  Also, I enjoy being up higher on the ship, and the rooms were very close to the things we enjoy doing.  Spa, pools, and the like.

The rooms are also very quiet, with little noise coming from the hallways due to less traffic.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned that I enjoyed, and took advantage of daily, is the close access to the showers in the spa.  These are larger showers than in your stateroom, and have better shower heads and water pressure.  I would go to the spa to shower before dinner while my wife was showering and getting ready in the room.  That way we were out of each others way.

  8. I'm looking at the NCL Bliss for June of 2019 and am interested in a fishing excursion. Has anyone done one of these through the ship? How was your experience? All of my past cruises were to the Caribbean, and fishing excursions there involve a single fighting chair with everyone sharing time in the chair. If a fish bites while you're in the chair, it's yours to fight, but if you aren't in the chair you're out of luck. This is mostly due to the trolling style of fishing for pelagic fish in the Caribbean.

Will the experience in Alaska be similar, or will each person be able to use their own fishing pole? Also, has anyone taken advantage of the guide service packaging your fish and shipping it home? How expensive was it, and was the meat well packaged and should I have it sent to a relative to ensure it doesn't arrive and spoil before I get home?

  9. If you can fit it into your schedule, try to add a couple of days to your adventure to see the City of Seattle.

Hotels in downtown Seattle tend to be expensive. The Waterfront Marriott is directly across the street from the pier. The historic Edgewater Hotel is right next door.

If you are a baseball fan check to see if the Seattle Mariners are in town. Safeco Field is just at the South edge of downtown. There is a Silver Cloud Hotel across the street from the stadium.

    Most of all enjoy.

Luckily my in laws have some good friends that live in Seattle, so the plan is to stay with them for a couple days. That takes care of hotel issues as well as having great tour guides! I am a fan of baseball, so a Seattle game would be great. I've been lucky to plan cruises around home games for Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, and Anaheim Angels. It would be great to mark Safeco Field off the list of ballparks I've visited.

  10. We did the inaugural cruise on the Bliss June 2-9 and had a fantastic time with some great excursions as well - Zodiac Boats and Helicopter/Dog sledding being the best. Loved the crew on the Bliss - perhaps the best we have ever cruised with. Bring layered clothing, rain gear, and be ready for anything. I can't imagine you not loving it!

How were the pools? My wife and I are big fans of hanging out by the pool occasionally getting in. Are the pools heated, otherwise I would imagine them being too cold?

  11. Hey everyone, looking for a little advice on my next cruise. My wife and I have visited all of the ports in the Caribbean with 2 cruise lines and are looking at an Alaska cruise for our next adventure. I'm looking for some general info on what to expect and some tips for cruising Alaska versus the Caribbean. Looking at the Norwegian Bliss next June for a birthday/anniversary cruise. Thanks in advance!

  12. My wife and I are going on a Mexican Riviera cruise soon, we will be in Puerto Vallarta from 9am-9pm. We currently have an excursion planned starting at 4:30. We were thinking about booking a second excursion to do in the morning. We found one that is from 10:30-3:30. Has anyone booked multiple excursions on the same day? Would it be too much or are the times on Carnival website pretty accurate as far as excursion lengths?

  13. I'm going to be sailing the Miracle in March and have a question about ports. We will be in Cabo on Monday as well as Tuesday. On Monday, will the ship leave the port in the afternoon, or will it stay at anchor and have tender service throughout the evening?

Also, is the March 11 sailing going to be too late to see the whales?

  14. I proposed to my wife on Carnival Glory in 2015. I didn't want to go too over the top, so I did it in the steak house the first night. I was in contact with the steakhouse manager for a few weeks before the cruise, and all I had to do was bring her the ring once I got on board and she took care of the rest. I had roses delivered to the steakhouse from Cherry on Top. Steakhouse manager brought the ring out on a covered silver platter after the main course and before dessert. I should have hired one of the on board photographers to be there for the moment, but didn't think about it. Luckily some of the close tables took pictures on their own cameras and were able to e-mail them to me after the cruise.

    Good Luck!

  15. Had one on Glory 2 months ago. It was a great room! Going on Breeze for the honeymoon next year, and thought about getting one again, but decided on a spa balcony for the spa access. I liked being close to everything on the lido, and the view you had in ports couldn't be beat. We did sneak some peeks out the window during the nights, but couldn't see much. I'd recommend it to anyone.

  16. Should be no penalty because it would be considered an upgrade to move to a balcony. As far as rooms, I always book an aft extended because I like to sit and watch the wake and with the ocean view, you have to hope for clean windows and people not walking in front of you all the time.

This isn't a normal ocean view room. It's the ones on the very front of the ship on deck 9, above the bridge. Floor to ceiling windows, and no public walkway in front of them.

  17. I have a couple questions, but first a little background info. I am booked on the Glory June 20th sailing currently in a scenic ocean view room. We booked under early saver.

Question 1) Given a choice, would you choose the scenic ocean view room or a lido balcony? We have both stayed in a balcony room, but the scenic ocean view would be a new class to try.

Question 2) Am I able to switch room/what would the penalty be? I currently have $50 onboard credit from a promotion.
