There are three cruise terminal buildings one for each of the cruise ship docks. If you leaving from C331, you check in at Terminal 1; if C332, then terminal 2; … The terminals are in a row and should have some indication which ship is at which dock. You may be be able to see which cruise ship is which terminal, as they tower over the low terminal building.

Thank you again. I was pleasantly surprised to receive an unsolicited email from a HAL Cruise Consultant who had a standard greeting...but also asked if I had any last minute questions.

Wow! I like that. I'm a Royal Caribbean loyalist but they never did that.

I asked about the C331 (Terminal 1) location and he confirmed that you correct!

    Great job! 🙂

The ship departs and returns to Oceankaj. On the quay we will be moored at C331 on the 2ng Aug and will be moored at C332 when we return on 9th August. Both moorings feed into the same Oceankaj terminal.

    Well that's great info.

I'm guessing that upon arrival, there is only one building to report to for check in? I couldn't get it wrong?

@SSBrickNJ, you asked what airline to pick in the HAL online checkin.  United Airlines is correct, along with the UA flight #, because that is who you booked with.  If you want to use the AC information, now that you have it, that will work too.  HAL won’t care either way.

I flew from CPH a few weeks ago, since that seems to be important to you.

I'm very happy that a travel agent who follows the Tripadvisor "Air Travel" forum took the time to give me the Air Canada Flight Numbers. I will use those. I have to use something...and I'm flying in Air Canada's planes so that's what I'll use.

  4. 10 minutes ago, CruiserBruce said:

I would be totally disregarding the UA flight numbers. As you are flying AC, pay attention to, and use the AC flight info. If you ask about UA flight XXX at CPH, few, if any, will know it. If you ask about AC flight YYY, they will know about it.

And we flew to CPH on AC, booked through UA last summer.

I thank you very much. It is good to hear from YOU especially because you flew to Copenhagen last summer.

I was also asking about this on Tripadvisor.

The 9th post on this thread solved it...

    https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g1-i10702-k14458758-Cruise_Line_asking_for_Flight_Carrier_but-Air_Travel.html

  5. I think @*Miss G* is suggesting the logical solution.

Yet, when I'm in the airport(s), it would be good for me to know the Flight #s associated with Air Canada. The signboards in the airport will reference Air Canada's Flight #s...no the partnership flight #s I have been provided by United Airlines. Agreed?

I should call United and provide my Flight Booking # and take it from there?

  6. Very good.

I went back to the most recent email i received from United Airlines, it just tweaked the departure and arrival times by one minute.

Anyway, that email only made reference to United Airline Flight #s on Air Canada.

I currently don't have access to the Air Canada Flight #s for our flights. I just have United Airline Flight Numbers with the notation the carrier will be Air Canada.

  7. Hi everyone!

I'm partway into completing our online check in for our Aug. 2nd Denmark to Norway Cruise on Nieuw Statendam.

The HAL software wants me to declare the airline we will arrive and depart on.

I've hesitated and am seeking advice....because....we purchased the airfare on the United Airlines website...yet United Airlines placed us on flights in and out of Denmark using AIR CANADA.

FYI....the Flight #s are associated with United Airlines.

Our flight numbers begin with "UA"

So, what say all of you?

I should select "United Airlines" and put the UA Flight #?

    or............

I should select "Air Canada" and put the UA Flight #?

    Thanks!

There are lots of threads about crew appreciation fees and extra tipping, and I recommend looking them up, as there are more details than I’ll put here. But to answer your questions:

If you don’t pre-pay the crew appreciation, it will show up as a daily fee per person on your statement. You can see this apply and track it daily in the app, but it will show up on your final statement, too, which will be automatically billed to your credit card on file at the completion of the cruise. If you pre-pay it before the cruise, it will not show up on your final statement of onboard spending.

I always add a bit extra in cash on the last day of the cruise for my attendants, but it’s definitely not required or even expected. I also like to give tips to particularly attentive waitstaff and bartenders, especially if I see them frequently over the course of the cruise. Again, not required, but always appreciated.

Thank you for the helpful information.

The night before we leave the ship, will an old fashioned closing statement be slipped under the door or provided somehow? I do NOT expect to have the Navigator app.

Additionally, I like the idea of the total going on my credit card on file and I just give something additional in cash to my stateroom attendant and our MDR servers.

With this plan, the full cruise gratuities goes onto my credit card on file.

There is actually NO NEED to go to the Customer Service Desk.....correct?

You will have a daily charge on your onboard account. You can make various arrangements to pay that bill such as bringing cash, gift cards or letting it settle on your credit card on file.

Yes I'd like to let it settle on my credit card on file.

.......yet............do people who have done that often give some smaller amount in cash as well?

    What is most commonly done?

The gratuities will be posted daily. As long as you have OBC remaining, they will be deducted from that amount.

I'd like to follow up on the discussion of gratuities.

For our upcoming 7 day cruise, I'm told that our "Crew Appreciation/Gratuity" TOTAL amount would be $112 for me...and $112 for my wife. $224 as a couple for the Out The Door Cruise Total.

That $224 Crew Appreciation gratuity will simply be added to our final check out bill?

  11. As the OP I'm gonna take advantage that I have your attention and ask a different question.

IF we elect not to pre pay the tips, HOW at the end of the cruise do we provide our stateroom attendant his or her tip? I should have asked this when I had HAL on the phone. At the time of the call, HAL's rep said: "We call 'tips' by the term 'crew appreciation' ....for your 7 day cruise (Aug 2nd - Aug. 9th) it will be $16 per person per day.....and that comes to $112 total for you....and $112 total for your wife"

    *
Our total as a couple would then be $224

Certainly I'd prefer not to put $224 cash in an envelope and hand it to the stateroom attendant.

So....#1 Will it be automatically added to my bill?

    and....

#2 If "Yes", would my attendant expect something modest yet additional in an envelope as well?

Thanks for letting me break the rules and not start a new thread.

  12. Thank you for both responses Roz 🙂

Still curious though, if I have my boarding pass printed and my luggage tags attached, would it be correct to say that people with the app have no advantage over me for boarding? The app might be "nice" but it does not expedite boarding...on dining seating? Correct?

Thank you to those who responded thus far.

    Two follow ups from me.

#1 My wife and I are new to HAL...But....we've been on four Royal Caribbean cruises in the past and we were indeed fine without using that cruise line's app

#2 Yet, my wife go a new phone a month ago. Samsung 20 "something".

I just remember the number was in the low twenties.

IF she doesn't mind, we can download the app on her phone.

Is it NEEDFUL? Will it expedite the boarding process or any other things when we are on board? We are not getting the wifi package. We will not use our phones once we sail.

  15. I am a HAL newbee who has a cell phone called: "Samsung Galaxy Note8"

    It's an android phone.

I have downloaded plenty of apps.

Yet today I entered into the Google Play Store: "Holland America Navigator" and to my surprise, my entry prompted the following pop up message: "This app will NOT WORK on your phone".

    Huh?!

I can do my Online Check In on the laptop and print everything. The HAL chat rep said I COULD go on our August 2nd HAL Cruise and function ok without the app.

    1) Do you agree with the HAL chat rep's statement?

    2) Any thoughts or experiences with the HAL Navigator app not being able to be downloaded on a phone such as mine?

I have stayed in this hotel many times. It used to be very basic, but has “upgraded” over the years. The location is perfect for getting around, sightseeing, restaurants, etc. I was able to store my large suitcase for the day from check out to the evening when I would catch the night train to Sweden. Really nice staff as well.

Thank you for this very encouraging post. Your helpful words have put my mind at ease.

    Very appreciated!

I'm not quite sure if the free shuttle bus will run here in 2023 - my best advice is to take the M4 to Orientkaj and from there bus 25 or 164 to Oceankaj terminal.  While 164 runs on a fixed timetable, bus 25 runs a shuttle between the metro station and the cruise terminal every 20 minutes.  Tickets for the Metro are also valid for buses.

    When is boarding typically?

    I'm a first timer w/ HAL.

Hotel rooms in Europe are for the most part spartan and smaller than in the US. Your choice looks very nice! Our only requirement (besides location and being clean with good reviews) is an ensuite room. My wife does the hotel choices while I cover the transportation. She uses a well known website online for "Booking" and it actually shows the hotel room class that we are getting. Very handy on our last five-week trip in Italy before our transatlantic to travel home as the rooms truly varied in size - but all were very good.

We each travel with a rollaboard and personal bag. Plus I have a 35 L backpack suitcase and my wife uses a smaller day backpack. This last trip we were in six hotels and on 16 different trains traveling in Italy, France, and Spain. Also two Amtrak trains from BWI airport to VA. You shouldn't have trouble with your luggage. By the way we are each in our early 70's.

Yes, the Metro requires changing to a bus at the end of the line to get to the cruise terminal. The buses are all low floor so easy to maneuver luggage onto.

We sailed on the Nieuw Statendam for a 20-day Mediterranean cruise in 2019 plus my wife did an additional  9-day Caribbean cruise last year aboard her. It is one of our favorite HAL ships.

We have two nights booked at a hotel in Norreport on our way home from Hamburg after an MSC cruise. Copenhagen is a great city to visit and enjoy yourself. Feel free to ask anything else.

You've been very generous with your time. Thank you!

Yes, NS is scheduled to be at quay C333, Oceankaj.

Here is a link to basic info: https://www.whatsinport.com/Copenhagen.htm

And here is a link to the actual Port Authority Schedule (you'll need to enter the date): https://www.cmport.com/terminals/ships-in-port/

Great job! Very very helpful! 🙂

After entering the date and our ship's name: "Nieuw Statendam" it displayed this...

    Ship                        ETA                  Company                 QUAY          Status

    Nieuw Statendam   02 Aug @ 7:00  SDK Cruise A/S       C333          Expected

Why is the company "SDK Cruise A/S" instead of HAL?
