Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Good for you. Happy the summit meets your expectations. To each his own when “stuff happens”.
  2. Now off the Summit and the remainder of the cruise held no further surprises. Truly hoping that the next and future cruises do not experience the same or other issues To give some context about my comments regarding Summit - We’ve been sailing with Celebrity for 32 years. Our first ever was the Meridian when our children were 4 and 7 and we continued to thoroughly enjoy every moment for many vacations, milestone events, and family celebrations. First trip to Europe when they were teens, engagement celebration with the whole family, honeymoons, anniversaries, etc. Our grown kids also have sailed celebrity as their preferred choice throughout their adult life. This trip on the Summit was the whole family together to celebrate my recent milestone birthday. It was the first ever cruise for our 4 grandchildren. As you might imagine, we were so excited to be back on celebrity again as a family. Overall, it was a bit of a disappointment mainly due to the poor condition of the ship and the repeated incidents of concern. The worst part was the lack of timely communications. However, I will say again that the crew was amazing. True to form they exceeded expectations each and every day with their warmth, care and graciousness. Will we be back on celebrity? Still to be determined. I hope so, but definitley not on the Summit.
  3. No weather to speak of. Calm seas, not a drop of rain. With the exception of the cosmetic interiors, the ship seems poorly maintained. The railings and deck are all sloppily splattered with paint, the outdoor furniture is hole-ridden and saggy, sails over the suite areas are dirty and stained, pool deck is worn through in multiple spots. Don’t get me wrong - there’s plenty of positives overall. Especially regarding the crew - amazing one and all. But the ship itself is definitely not in the shape you would expect and based on the issues of the past few days, the situation extends beyond what the eye can see.
  4. Gotcha. I was not being serious. Maybe you missed the eye roll. 🙄
  5. Last I checked the internet doesn’t need running water to work. 🙂
  6. No joy lost. Everyone is safe and these inconveniences while significant, become part of the adventure that makes memories. But Summit will never again be on our list of ships to consider.
  7. Currently sailing on the Summit 5 day from MIA that left Monday April 1. We are a family of 11 sailing in 4 separate cabins on deck 7. I won’t bore you with the minor, but numerous issues encountered Monday and Tuesday, but yesterday there were 2 blackouts for over an hour each time. The first occurred at around 4:30. We were in our cabin and lost lights, TV, AC and internet. The captain made an announcement and told us “don’t worry I am here with you”. ?did he think we assumed he had abandoned ship? Power was restored in a little less than a hour, but the second blackout happened at 6 PM when we were in the martini bar. Lots of commotion everywhere and soon they had to stop serving drinks because there was no clean water to wash glasses. If you had a glass and were willing to use the same dirty glass, you could get refills, but nothing that needed a shaker or any utensils in the preparation. Again, only aux lights, no AC,etc. However, it was interesting that the registers still worked to swipe cards for refillls. Power restored around 7 I think. Suffice it to say that there were a lot of very agitated people making their thoughts known. Now, this evening sometime before 5 PM on Chic night, there’s a main water line issue so there’s no running water anywhere except decks 2 and 3. Our cabin steward reported “it’s an environmental issue”. The front desk has zero information except to say they are aware and working on it. Almost an hour later have yet to hear from the captain. Hopefully he didn’t abandon ship this time…..🙄
  8. Disembarked Vista yesterday in Miami. Due to high winds we were moved from the usual dock of terminal J to terminal B which seems to be the big NCL terminal. We were advised of the change late the evening before. It was a breeze. We stayed in our cabin (enjoyed breakfast room service) until around 8:15, made our way down from deck 8 to deck 6 and proceeded to join the line for disembarkation. Long walk in the terminal to baggage pick up but breezed right through customs to the private taxi pick up area. Granted we were the only ship in port on a Tuesday morning but still, it really was very painless.
  9. Also just off the Silhouette yesterday. For us, the entire experience exceeded our expectations. Maybe because we were bracing ourselves to be disappointed since our last cruise on Celebrity was on the Solstice 5 years ago and we were sorely disappointed all around. Our last 3 cruises have been on Oceania and Seabourn. The only reason we booked Celebrity is because we had a pre-COVID FCC that was going to expire. We booked Aqua Class for the first time and really enjoyed Blu for breakfast and dinner most nights. Service, selection, and quality was all great. Murano on the first night was also up to par. Can’t really comment on the buffet choices since we only visited once for lunch when we really enjoyed the fresh roasted carved Turkey on a delicious freshly baked roll. Also tried the pizza which was quite good. Other lunches we enjoyed the spa cafe and the mast grill. Also upgraded to the premium package and had no issue getting drinks anywhere, even poolside. In fact, many times we turned down the offer from the servers to get more drinks. We had drinks nightly at the Martini Bar and were very impressed with the gorgeous Reidel martini glasses. With the exception of the first nite, we had no trouble getting seats around 6. I did notice that the bartenders, rightfully so, were not as quick to serve the patrons who called out “hey boss” or some other less than respectful term trying to get their attention. As soon those passengers called out “sir” they were immediately served. The ship is in tip top shape and outfitted with beautiful artwork throughout. Soft furnishings / decor and lighting all helped the experience to feel like a luxury line. We would sail Silhouette again in a heartbeat. Not sure we would book Aqua Class again but for this short cruise the total fare turned out to be only a little bit more money than a verandah if you add in tips, wifi and classic beverage package which were included for Aqua Class. I must say, much to our surprise we are very seriously considering trying an E class ship next.
