  1. Whilst not confirming that I will be using the aforementioned Runners, the quality of them available in the UK looks very poor. I have only checked on a well known auction website, and there was only 1 UK seller, but are they as flimsy as they look? They don't appear strong enough to re-use.

Does anyone have any UK experience?

Got two, used two. And no, they are not flimsy. ;)

  2. I'm a newbie to cruising and my husband and I just booked a cruise on the Freedom in Feb. I'm thrilled to find a site like this because we had no idea how to pick a room. We chose 6315. If anyone has any input, I'd appreciate it!

    TIA!

Firstly, welcome to Cruise Critic. You will find lots of great info and tips on here. Be very careful though, CC is VERY addictive. :D

Been on the Freedom, had a great time, the ship is lovely. Sorry, can't help with that particular cabin, (We always have an AFT cabin) all I can say is, Carnival cabins are bigger than the other lines we have been on.

    Enjoy.....................

  3. Ann! Nice "seeing" you - I hope you have a great time on your baltic cruise. :)

Hi Jackie, nice 'seeing' you too. Have a wonderful trip on the Liberty. We love that ship, much nicer than the Century. ;) Getting excited about the Baltic cruise and, being on the Jewel again. :D

  4. Anyone have info on cabin 8442 on the Liberty. Can you hear much noise from lido?:)

DH and myself were in 8442 on the Freedom. The cabin was huge. :D We never heard a thing. Friends had the corner aft next door, with the balcony partition opened up, it made a fantastic balcony. If I remember right it was something like 96 feet long. :D

  5. One cardinal rule for early disembarkation, no matter the port, plan on leaving the ship with your luggage. If you wish to return to the ship at any point that day you will not be permitted to reboard. Some cruise lines even take your seapass.

Be prepared to check with the Purser's Desk starting mid cruise to verify your early embarkation too. Don't presume that they are aware of your departure when you try to exit the ship with your luggage.

Your cabin steward can arrange a cart and may even assist you with your luggage to the pier. A little tip works wonders.

We have disembarked before the end of a cruise on two occasions, our luggage was picked up by a crew member the night before, (just like you do the last night of your cruise), it was waiting for us in the arrivals hall, along with other passengers luggage.

This was in the UK, not sure of any other country that may do things differently. :)

  6. Help! I am new to cruising and have already booked a cruise for my family on NCL. It is a round trip cruise starting and ending in London. I foolishly thought it would be okay for us to disembark in the second to last city, Stockholm, so that we could spend a few extra days there instead of at sea en route back to London. I even bought the plane tickets arriving in London and departing from Stockholm. Then I found out what you all probably already know, that you can't disembark early. It is going to cost a fortune to rebook the plane tickets. Does anyone know of any way to get NCL to let us get off early? I was told that for security reasons they almost never allow this. Any suggestions?

We will be disembarking in Dover instead of Amsterdam this April. (We did the same thing in 2007) I'm not sure where you are from but, there are a few people from our Roll Call that are from the US that are doing this as well. We contacted our T/A to request this, had an e-mail back pretty quick confirming our request. I'm sure you won't have a problem.;)

    BTW...........welcome to CC.

  7. I know, I'm losing it! I did one for my last cruise and CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME remember how I did it!

    A little help PLEASE!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hope this helps.....................

icon1.gifThe OLD "Countdown clocks: How to set one up!" Thread

Do you need a countdown clock? If so, follow these instructions.

    • Go to this page - http://www.geocities.com/quietman01970/maker1.htm.
    • Input all the required information into the form.
    • Click the "Generate UBB Clock code" button to generate the code for your clock, which will appear in the last box on that page.
    • Copy the code onto your computer's clipboard.
    • Come back to CC.
    • Go to your User CP (the link is near the top left hand corner of the page).
    • Go to Edit Signature (the link is in the list on the left hand side of the page).
    • Paste the UBB code into the text entry box.
    • Click the Preview Signature button.
    • Does it look right? If so, click the Save Signature button.

So how do you copy the code onto the clipboard?

    • Select the whole of the code by highlighting it with your mouse.
    • You can also do this by clicking quickly on that code three times.)
    • Go to Edit (in the menu bar at the top of the window) and then click on Copy.
    • Alternatively, right-click on the highlighted area, and then, when the popup menu comes up, left-click on Copy.
    • Or, just press CTRL+C on your keyboard.

OK, now how do you paste the code into the CC page for creating your signature?

    • Left-click once inside the text entry box, at the point where you want the clock to appear, so as to get the cursor active there.
    • Then go to Edit (in the menu bar at the top of the window) and then click on Paste.
    • Alternatively, right-click inside the text entry box at the point where the cursor is, and then, when the popup menu comes up, left-click on Paste.
    • Or, just press CTRL+V on your keyboard.

So is it all working? Go to one of your posts in CC. Can you see your signature at the end of each of the post? If you can't see any signatures at all, either yours or anyone else's, then try the following. Also do this if you can see signatures, but all the clock codes show as clickable links instead of as clock images.

    • Go to your User CP.
    • Then go to Edit Options (from the list on the left)
    • Scroll down to Thread Display Options and check (at least) the boxes for Show Signatures and Show Images.
    • Go to the bottom of that page and click on Save Changes.

  8. :D Thank's everyone! I just came across this board..we sail on The Coral Princess to Panama Canal on the 30th.....I have been racking my brain trying to think of ways to be different on the ship. I usually put an dry erraser board on the door, but you all have given me some great ideas! Now to find room in my luggage.......

This is a simple poster to use. You can add your name before you print it off. I laminated one of these signs and got some themed stickers from the Dollar Store, they looked really affective all around the poster and the door. (Came off the door no problem.) ;)

  9. I know I've seen it on here somewhere, and the search is not helping, because I don't know what it's called...

...can someone please help me find the CC's print out they do to put on your door to let others know you're a CC and are planning a meet and greet?

    Many thanks! - Rhonda

Hope this one helps. You can type in your name before you print off the sign and luggage tags. On the luggage tags I put cabin number on the back laminate and attach just before embarking the ship. ;)

  10. The best thing that I ever saw that someone brought (and I have to admit that I peeked down onto their balcony to see it) was that they had brought with them (obviously they had cruised many times before) a small line and clothespins. How sloppy and unorganized does the stateroom/suite get when there are wet clothes draped over the tub and shower? Definately something that I'll bring next cruise..They hung it very low on the balcony so it didn't obstruct the view or look sloppy!

I always take and use a small clothes line and pins, bought it in the fishing section at Walmart for $1.25, five cruises ago. ( My sister has taken it on her holidays three times also. !! ) It's in a small case that reels out. Best thing I have ever bought. ;)

  11. Question for anyone who is familier with cruising from San Juan:

My wife and I are flying into San Juan to board a RCCL ship later this year and I was wondering if any beer and wine "smugglers" have any good tips? Our flight is scheduled to get to the airport before noon and the ship doesn't board until later that day. I would like to stop somewhere between the airport and pier to get a case of beer and couple bottles (or box) of wine to stash in our suitcases, then drop the suitcases off at the boat so we can do some walking around San Juan b/f we board.

Any suggestions for those who have done this before? Is it OK to drop the bags off early? Any recommendations of a nearby store? Is a taxi the best way to get from the airport to pier, then back out to the historical districts to walk around? Thanks in advance for your help!

We did a T/A in April this year from SJ. We 'checked in' and before boarding the ship, paid a vist to the duty free shop..........we bought = 4 btls liquor, 2 btls wine, and a 12 pk of pepsi.............the wine & liquer were packed in a box for us...............this we carried onto the ship and to our cabin....no problems !!!!!! :)
