  1. I will be traveling to Norway in August of 2023 and wanted feedback on our ports.

Stavanger- could do a cruise to lysejforden and pulpit tour.  There is also a hop on hop off bus . Am wondering if decision can be made on arrival as weather can be a factor?

Haugesund there is a train or viking tour. Also noticed they have a museum and herring factory.  Has anyone visited these places?

Olden-loolking at loen skylift and briksdal glacier. Can both be done in 12 hour port stop.  I have some mobility issues with walking and steps.

Alesund - land of trolls tour? Go to Geirangefgord?

    Loften Islancds- RIB trip

North Cape Crossing- has anyone taken the local bus and can you use a credit card?  How long would trip take from Honningsvag?

Alta- I understand there is a tourist office in town. Can you book tours through them? Any suggestions as to best use 8 hours?

Harstad- also saw opportunity for viking tour..  Have 10 hours in port

Bodo-Understand there is an aviation musuem and an art street walking tour from the tourist office.  Has anyone done either event?  Have 9 hours in port

Tronheim- I understand Roros is nearby.  Have 10 hours in port and am open to suggestion

Tromso- This port is after Loften Islands.  There is supposed to be a public bus that takes you to a cable car, a polar museum, and arctic cathedral.  How does this cable car compare to Olden skylift?

    What would you recommend.

We will be on a 16 night cruise starting in early August and I want to be prepared to make the most of our trip.  I read that credit cards are widely accepted but wonder about use on public transportation.  Please let me know if this is an option.   Also I have read that often ports can be skipped due to ocean and weather conditions.  I guess this is making me wonder if we should stick to DIY in these ports and would like to know from those who have been to the ports listed above if this is possible.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

  2. Terry,

Thanks for your feedback. I love the fact that you got to visit a school, etc. We are retired educators and in China we got to do that years ago.

I have booked 3 tours in west Africa through fellow cruise critic members.  Am considering renting a bike in Durban to ride along the Golden mile but will wait to see weather and other factors. I am not going to book anything in advance for East London or Maputo.

  3. I am in Port Elizabeth from 7-7 and thinking about booking with Alan Tours.

Am in Richards Bay from 7-7 and am booking a tour for Hluhluwe

Tala Game reserve is an option for Durban . Will be there 8-6. Do you have another suggestion?

Lots to do in Cape Town so thought I would do hop on hop off bus which l can take from the port. May skip Aquila in favor of other suggestions. Have almost 3 days to explore.

Ship also stops in Maputo and East London and was considering a walking tour in Maputo and city tour in East London. Any suggestions on those 2 cities?

I am also going to cruise up west coast of Africa to Walvis Bay,Luanda, Takoradi, Abidjan, and Banjul but have been receiving conflicting information regarding visa, time in port, etc. Have you visited any of these cities? Any feedback would be appreciated.

  4. Thanks for responding to post. Now I understand that we will need to take shuttle between terminals 2 and 3 but could you please clarify customs issue. We are on Latam from sdu to gru and delta from gru to jfk.   Latam and delta are partners. Will luggage be tagged through to jfk and will we only go through customs at jfk?

I am concerned that we may not have enough time at gru and could miss flight back to the states.

  5. We are traveling back to US from Rio via São Paulo. It looks like we will need to go from terminal 2 to 3 and I am wondering how much time we need between flights. Will we need to go through customs?  Must we get our luggage first?  I have not been to São Paulo airport and am concerned that we might not make our connection.  Is there a shuttle between terminals or is it a short walk?

  6. Doing transatlantic to rio and need to stay one night before heading back to us via SDU. Anyone have a suggestion for reasonable hotel in good location?  Was last in rio 40 years ago.

  7. Will need to spend one night at a hotel in rio after a cruise in mid December. Anyone have a suggestion for a nice and reasonable hotel in a safe neighborhood? Have not been to rio for more than 20 years.

  8. In early May will be crossing the Atlantic on QE

Are self laundry facilities open and does Cunard provide pods?

Is afternoon tea being done in Queens Room?

For anyone who has been on recently, how crowded is the ship? Realize this changes with each sailing.

What type of covid related changes have you seen on the ship? Hope by May the situation is more back to normal.
