  1. Yes, please check it.  We sailed on November 6th.  My friend didn't check the date on hers and we got to the port and were boarding when it was discovered that her test was dated 9/23 rather than 11/4.  Luckily she had taken a 2nd test; but she had not logged into the portal to get her results yet.  The Carnival staff would not allow her time to sit down and register/log on to get the 2nd set of results.  She was taken to the port doctor where she would have to pay for another test; but by then she had logged on and was able to show her 2nd set of results. The doctor asked, well why did they bring you here. She said that's what I was wondering.  Needless to say, we all needed a drink when we boarded.

What about being asked to stay in your cabin and going from port to port hoping you get entry?  Are those days behind us?

Yes, if postive Covid rates go above a certain threshold; they return you to the port of embarkation and folks will have to tested and those positive will be quarantined.

It's a perfect storm, Omicron and holiday gatherings. I asked before on a different thread, what will happen when so many have to cancel because they can't pass the test? It is not likely the rules will change but I feel like we are about to enter a difficult window.

    Unfortunately, this may come true.

    The infected are off

What about the crew? Surely they are contributing to the spread. I'm supposed to be on Freedom on 1/9. We won't even consider it. I understand when people say they are double vaxxed and boosted (as are we) but my very healthy brother and my son got COVID (and are vaxxed and boosted) and it was still a miserable experience- in bed for 4-5 days. No one was concerned they'd die, but who wants to be on a cruise with a really bad cold? I'd much rather have my own bed, etc.

My best friend is vaxxed and boosted.  Shes on day 5 and has had 102 degree temp, horrible cough and headache.  She seems to now be on the down side of things.  Interestingly, her exposure was last Sunday and by Wednesday, everything tasted like pepper.  It was all downhill afther that.

I agree the crew is contributing to the spread.  And with how their living quarters are; it will continue to spread among them.   January is going to be a crucial month.

We returned Dec. 18th on the freedom. The 19th both felt ill, 20th tested positive. I have seen were others reported the same. Freedom went right back out and guess what covid and canceled itineraries. Unconfirmed that Capt. was replaced on Bonaire. Also cruise director unseen since sunday. This is so far unproven. I just think it very unwise to load the ship up and send it out again. No way that ship is being cleaned enough to prevent more cases. Hey that's just my opinion. I wonder if those boarding yesterday were told and given any options.

I totally get what you're saying.  We shall see what happens.  There may be a lot of cruises to nowhere over the next couple of weeks.  Hopefully that won't be the case but I do think the next couple of weeks will be interesting.

do you think NCL will start to require masks when indoors to prevent this from happening again?

I think this is a good idea.  I was recently on a Carnival Cruise where masks are required in most indoor areas. I don't know of any cases onboard and I know a lot of us tested when we returned and none of us tested positive.

So, I'm eligible for my third Pfizer shot here in Louisiana and obviously, in a perfect world I'd be able to get the jab before my cruise on the Mardi Gras on Oct. 2 ... however, with Carnival's wording about requiring proof that you've had the final shot of your vaccine course 15 days prior to sailing, I'm worried that it may affect my ability to board on the 2nd.

I've left a voicemail for my rep for guidance, but just taking a shot in the dark that someone around these parts might have some advice or insight.

Obviously, I'm happy to wait to get the booster until after my cruise if need be but I'm all about all the protection possible and I can get the booster first thing tomorrow morning if I choose.

    Thanks y'all!

You're already considered fully vaccinated with two shots.  You will be fine.

While this is tentatively good news I thought it takes about a week or more for symptoms to start. I think a negative test upon debarking the ship can still potentially turn positive days later. Correct me if i'm misinformed on that.

For me personally, I think after 2 or 3 months of no issues, then i'd be more comfortable sailing again.

I don't think there will ever be a point of no issues at least not until we reach herd immunity.  The virus exists so it's going to be hard to go back to a point where it doesn't exist at all, if ever.  I think the key is going to be how it's handled if and when there is a case.  isolating that person as quickly as possible is going to be the key thing to do on a ship

I have been very critical of the way the CDC has treated the  cruise industry both online and verbally with family, friends, neighbors, etc.  But I am starting to think maybe the CDC knows what they are doing since it appears the cruise lines and cruise industry have no idea what they are doing.  CLIA comes out and announces all US cruises are suspended until September 15th, but then today Carnival announces all cruises are cancelled thru September 30th.  When the cruise industry can’t even agree on something as simple as a date, it makes me wonder if the cruise lines have a clue what they are doing? Maybe that’s what the CDC is consistently seeing and therefore has no interest in seeing cruise lines resuming operations any time soon.

I believe Carnival just decided to cancel through September 30th to start off at the beginning of the month IF they are able to start back.  That also gives them 2 more weeks to fine tuning.

Charters are a different animal. You need to discuss with the company that chartered the ship. Carnival has nothing to do with it since you booked your cruise through the charter.

Actually, Carnival does have something to do with it. Carnival had to agree with our chartering company to postpone; Carnival would not allow them to cancel.  But ours has already been dealt with...it's been postponed since March 13th.  I was just wondering what others had encountered with their charter.

  11. I was booked on a charter cruise that was on a Carnival ship, but has now been postponed?  Are there any others that were booked on charter cruises through Carnival?  If so, how is your cruise being handled, did you receive refunds?

  12. I really don't think cruises will begin again in April.  I truly think it will at least be May, if then. The reason being is that the cases are still increasing.  I don't think we will peak for another 2 weeks or more.  They probably won't start cruises again until we have only new cases here and there.

We will be on the Breeze april 4th...I am not one bit concerned about the corona virus or if any ports deny the ship.    We will be having a good time one way or another.    Carnival always makes it a good time of a port has to be missed for any reason.

I also have trip insurance that also covers for missed ports.   I always make sure to purchase this specific insurance.    It pays a set amount for any port missed or delayed getting there by 3 hours or more.

Keep in mind, the flu affects millions of americans every year,  killing 12 to 60 thousand people each year.  World wide it kills 290 to 650 thousand people each year.    The corona virus has affected 60 americans so far and 42 of them were from the cruise ship in japan.

Don't let the mass news coverage scare you.

Can you please let me know which cruise insurance you purchased?

Well, thank you for clarifying the problem, as I got my information from other posters. Let’s just hope that there are no issues with this year’s charter getting off the ship.

You're welcome, and we hope so as well.  It was no fun just sitting around waiting in whatever public areas had availabilty because we couldn't be in our cabins.
