  1. Have an adventure! Register as a Python Hunter and go into the Everglades to find and eliminate a big python.

There are supposed to be over 150,000 breeding pythons in the Everglades and Florida is paying a bounty on them. You must be registered with the state wildlife commission first.

Largest python taken last year was a bit over 16 feet.

  2. I usually cruise on my birthday. Most years, I receive a special chocolate cake served with dinner. This year, on the Eclipse, I received chocolate covered strawberries and wine from our room steward, a chocolate cake and wine from the CC hostess, and 2 bottles of wine from the Captain. In May, on the Equinox for my DWs birthday, the CC hostess treated us to dinner in Tuscan. I wouldn't expect that these things would happen on any type of regular basis, but we certainly enjoyed our birthdays this year. Thank you Celebrity.

  3. So, that's all you had to do is be sarcastic, hope you have a better day today. Please, ruin your own day, not somebody else.

Nope, just trying to impart some common sense.

Instead of reaching out to an online forum for which could turn out to have several different answers, the issue could be settled very easily and very quickly by picking up the cabin phone and dialing EITHER guest services or the cabin attendant.

It takes a whole lot more than a post on Cruise Critic to ruin my days. Even a 9 over par round of golf in The Villages does not ruin my day! Now, arriving at the Country Club 10 minutes after Happy Hour has ended might bring a tear to my eye!

  4. AAAAhhhh to be so perfect Sandtrap...CC is here for our fellow cruisers to ask questions not to be ridiculed.

Don't you honestly agree that it is much quicker for the passenger to pick up the phone in his cabin and call the attendant OR guest services and get ONE definitive answer regarding the wine? Or to post it on Cruise Critic and wait for possibly varying answers?

    Once more, common sense applies!

  5. I would suggest getting one of the "hump" or slant balcony cabins. They are very near the mid-ship elevators and have better balconies than other cabins. Being middle of the ship, the movement is lessened to a large extent.

  6. Over the years, we have found many wonderful personnel going above and beyond to make our cruises on Celebrity special. Some, however, stand out.

On our 1st Celebrity cruise in 1994 (Zenith) I dislocated my shoulder while on a beach in Cozumel, resulting in a trip to the emergency room. When I was ready to be released, the hospital contacted the ship's agent, who in turn contacted the ship. The agent came to the hospital and picked up me and my family (wife and young daughter) and delivered us to the dock where the ship had delayed its departure for us. Once back onboard, our room steward took it upon himself to bring extra pillows to prop me up and to deliver meals put together by our table steward.

3 years later, as we entered the Zenith dining room on our first evening, our table steward from that 1st cruise recognized us by name and quickly arranged for us to sit at one of his tables.

Skip ahead to 2013 and my DW and I are taking a 45 day journey from San Diego to Singapore on the Millennium. This journey consisted of 3 b2bs with us changing cabins between the 1st leg and the 2nd. Upon settling into our cabin that was assigned for our 2nd and 3rd legs, we discovered a problem with the cabin. Staff worked diligently to correct the issue, but without success, while the ship sailed from Honolulu to Tahiti (6 sea days). The hotel manager kept on top of the issue, but was unable to move us to a different cabin as the ship was sold out. However, at the end of our day ashore, the hotel manager greeted us and said that another cabin had become available (someone had departed the cruise in Tahiti) and that, if we wished, she would be happy to move us. We said yes--please! Imagine our surprise when we were lead to a suite and treated by everyone as if we had paid for that cabin during the next 11 days. Moreover, at the end of leg 2, still having been unable to fix the problem with the original cabin, the hotel manager located a wonderful aft cabin for our final leg.

This March, on my annual birthday cruise aboard the Eclipse, our cabin steward sent chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of wine to our cabin for no reason. Then, on my actual birthday, our steward sent these items again, together with a handmade birthday card. In addition, the CC hostess sent a bottle of champagne and a birthday cake, and the Captain sent 2 bottles of wine ( one red, one white ) with a birthday greeting.

Now, my wife has always been jealous of my Caribbean birthday cruises, as her birthday falls when, in the past, all of Celebrity's ships are located elsewhere. However, with the Equinox staying in the Caribbean, this summer she got a Caribbean birthday cruise. Upon meeting the CC hostess, she expressed her delight with this fact. Imagine our surprise when the CC hostess treated us to a birthday dinner celebration in Tuscan on the evening of my wife's birthday!

With all of the wonderful people who work for Celebrity and go above and beyond to make our cruises special, why would we sail on any other cruiseline?

  7. Concierge Class only means your cabin is presumably located in a better location than the other balcony cabins. You receive a bottle of sparkling wine - you may have to ask for it. The appetizer platter in the afternoon usually consists of 4 Dorito chips, a spoonful of hummus, 2 olives, and 2 tiny pieces of cheese. You also get 2 green apples on embarcation day.

You now get an embarcation lunch in the main dining room - which is nice - but not alone worth an upgrade.

    No butler. No special concierge.

  8. Try to sit as close to possible to the entrance of your muster drill venue. There is a mad rush for the door as soon as it is over. The rush is usually to the Martini Bar. Those bar stools fill QUICKLY.

  9. Really, your friends prefer an OV on Deck 2, to the balcony on Deck 7??? In regards to your reservation since you booked with a TA Celebrity will not talk with you in regards to your reservation.

Isn't that something that someone would rather have a Deck 2 Oceanview than a Deck 7 Balcony? Wow!

Anyhow, you are right. The travel agent can call Celebrity and have the room change made with no problem.

You will be getting off the Infinity on Nov. 8 in San Diego when I will be getting on it. Hope our cruises will be great.

  10. Of course no bar can serve until open but the people behind the bar could have told the customer nicely that they were not open..That would have been Good customer service!

In a perfect world, you are right. Remember that the employees are all non-American and not all have the same good customer service we expect.

If the OP was sitting at one end of the bar and saw 4 bartenders at the other end not acknowledging her, she could have politely asked for her Cokes by just saying, "Excuse me, may I order?". She either would have been served right away or told it was not open yet. No reason to sit there stewing and then storming away when finally acknowledged.

  11. I had heard about several problems on the Mercury when she was older before they traded her to a sister Cruise Line, the German one I believe. It's sort of like when a Hall of Fame football or baseball player decides to play past his or her prime.

Believe me, she was GREAT before your not-so-great experience.

My not so great experience was in either 2000 or 2001. It would seem to have been before your cruises on Mercury, not after.

  12. I have sailed every Celebrity ship and have to say that the only one I did not like was Mercury. Perhaps it was because of an ongoing noravirus issue that resulted in the ship smelling of Clorox and every surface being smeared and/or pitted from constant cleaning with Clorox. Must say, if this had been our 1st Celebrity cruise, it would also have been our last. However, since we knew this was not the norm, we gave Celebrity another chance and have happily continued sailing on all of their other ships over the past 17 years.

  13. The Oceanview is a great option for the main dining room. We always check the dinner menu for the dining room and sometimes nothing looks worth eating. We will then go to the Oceanview.

The buffet is not crowded. I particularly enjoy a filet of grilled snapper with a veggie and baked potato. The steaks, pork chops, and fish are all custom grilled.

We then take our dinners to the tables outside, get a drink from the bar, and enjoy dining with an expansive view from the back of the ship.

We will do this a few times during a two week cruise.

  14. Wow! The OP (with over 30,000 posts) is so craving his pizza that he asks on the board! On the first visit to the buffet for the embarcation lunch, the pizza station is very obvious - as well as being available on room service.

My pizza choice on Celebrity is the vegetarian (with sausage).

  15. After spending a couple thousand dollars on your cruise, do not cheap out and stay with the included classic beverage package. Spend $11.80 per day and get the Premium package. So many more choices and no thinking as "is this included?"

Try the Zacapa 23 Rum. It is fantastic! I was having an expresso with Zacapa as my after dinner coffee each night in the dining room.

At the World Class Bar, try the Zacapa Old Fashioned. Best drink on board!

  16. You know what I HATE about this cruise shell game (NOW you see your cruise, now it's gone as in 'charter' gone) is my wife only gets a week's vacation a year. Once she's picked that particular week,(we always pick a cruise for that week a year in advance, the third week in March, our anniversary) she's locked into THAT week. No changes, no do-overs, you're forced to take it when it rolls around. What? Cruise line XYZ chartered your cruise out from under you, and it's too late to find another one, tooooo bad,. We, your employer, do NOT care. I know the top dogs, the senior VP's (at her job and the cruise line) could care less, after all, they've their multi-million paychecks,,houses all around the world, so what do they care ? I'm retired so the only thing I can tell her is,' Well dear, maybe NEXT year..?

    -------------

Sounds as though your wife works at a company that sucks. She should have quit that job years ago.

As for the cruise being a charter, just do something else for that week. No big deal. It is your anniversary so anyplace with her will be special, won't it? The third week of March is far enough in the future to find someplace great. The Marriott Resort on St. Kitts with the all-inclusive option is a romantic choice.

  17.

I believe if you drink the bottled water the attendant puts in the cabins then you will be charged even if you have a drinks package.

    --------

Yes, that is true. However, since you have the beverage package - just leave the provided bottle sitting on the shelf and bring a bottle or two of Evian back to the cabin each night.

Brush your teeth with Evian, rinse your hair with Evian, whatever! It's all provided in the beverage package.

  18. I'm sorry but don't agree with this.. If the bartender thought she was just sitting, he/she should ask if the customer would like help.. I was in Customer Service all my life & would never allow a customer to sit without asking them immediately if they needed help..

I agree tips do work wonders but should not be used as bribes to get good service..

I have sailed the Reflection a few times and the Sky Lounge bar is not open until the Captain Club function at 5 pm. No bar can serve until open.

From 5 until closing, the Sky Bar is pretty full.

    'Nuff said!

  19. Definitely the child should be encouraged to try new foods and not to stick to Mac & Cheese or fish sticks.

Our daughter was a picky eater at home but was very adventurous in food on cruises. She scoffed at the kids menu and enjoyed the escargot, frog legs, and other things like that.

She is now a chef in Maine and people love her creations.
