Sailing on the 6th and thinking of doing a semi live review we are also in a GS so look out for it :)

Will do, thanks. Just hoping the weather is reasonable come October!

It’s now called a suite lounge deck 14 part of the Viking crown lounge
Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Yeah, I have seen it on the deck plan, just wondered if anyone had been recently for some more info/photos.
We are currently on the Jewel, and it's our first GS, and we like it so much I think cruising is going to be an even more expensive habit :'):'):)

20th, wife is a teacher so tied to (expensive) school holidays unfortunately!
-
Hey all - I have just upgraded us to a GS from a JS for our October trip on the Indy, does anyone have any photos of the Conciege lounge since the refit as I believe it's moved/changed? Does it have an outside area like the Jewel does?
TIA!

We were 1373 on our last cruise on the Indy, roughly the same place but starboard rather than port side, and we never heard a peep from the Windjammer.

You can order in the morning. You will have the full MDR menu from which to order.
Brilliant, thanks again! Roll on next August
-
No room service fees for guests in Grand Suites or better.
Brilliant, thanks, do you still have to pre-order the breakfast the night before, or can you pickup the phone and order off the menu in the morning?
-
Just booked our 2018 cruise and managed to book a grand suite for the first time (exciting!), I noticed you can get the full restaurant menu for in-room dining, but can anyone tell me if you pay a cover/room service charge for it? I seem to remember when having breakfast in our room on previous cruises we didn't pay, but not sure if that's changed.

Are the GGG offers for US only? The PDF only lists dollars, but not sure if the UK site would give me the same prices in GBP or not.
-
Just out of curiousity, did it have prepaid labelled on the card? If so, I wonder if that is the sticking point.

No, just looks like a normal MasterCard, but I did mention it was a prepay and they took some convincing to even bother to try using it, they were adamant it wouldn't work.
-
I have used my Revolut card several times, despite the pursors desk repeatedly insisting it wouldn't work.. saved a fair few quid in exchange rates!

Also ignore the cruise line nonsense about visas and them implying that if you go with one of their cruises you won't have to look after visas. The private tour companies also handle all the visa requirements and provide you with the docs you need to go through Russian Immigration/Customs.
Yeah, the cruise director really played the "fear" card around visas and how it would take over an hour to get through customs, and how their tours had priority - in reality the time between getting off the ship and through customs was about 5 minutes.
-
We used http://www.maxibalttours.com/ - outstanding pre-tour support, even answered my texts within a few minutes, and the actual tour was an amazing two days - easily my favourite part of any of the cruises I have been on.

Here are the onboard prices for comparison:

Thanks, with the Platinum discount that's only (roughly) ?1 a day more than my current cruise planner price - if I buy it now and notice the price drop can I cancel and re-add it without any charges do you know?
-
Thanks all, its currently sat at 12.39GBP for one device, and 22.03GBP for two devices (which works roughly out at $15 and $27), so seems quite expensive for the "planner price" currently.
For some reason the forum won't let me use the british pound sign, it just replaces it with "?" - I blame brexit :P
-
Yes all 6 in our party used it. It was adequate for checking email, checking websites, imessaging people and was able to FaceTime my kids periodically back home. It was not fast enough to stream Netflix though. It also periodically would kick you off and would have to re-login or make sure wifi was active.

Thanks, did you have the Surf, or Surf and Stream option?
-
Did you use the internet package onboard?
-
Off on the Indy in August, I've seen a few conflicting reports on the internet access speed onboard, but I think I'll give it a go anyway. Currently the price online is ?12.39 pppd, which I think is "full price", and I've read in a few places they normally offer 30% off at some point before boarding - is that still the case? If so, I'll keep an eye on it each week, if not I may as well wait until I get onboard and get the C&A Platinum discount?
Cheers!

Here are the test result for the Indy 1/6/17
I'm not able to post the link or upload a photo, but it would show 1.33 Mbps down 2.08 Mbps up and 879 ms ping rate. And this is Surf and stream service on the second day of the cruise. It will get much worse toward the end of the cruise.
Did it get any better?
-
I'm off on the Indy in August and was quite excited to see the fast results in earlier in the thread, but the more recent results showing the same old crappy speeds are making me wonder whether to bother - has anyone else been on recently, or are planning to go on, the Indy who can test it out?
-
Not O3b as of March 2016, and have not gotten any reports of O3b from Vision since then.
Thanks, I will save my money if that's the case then, the old style internet was pretty much useless last time I tried to use it.
-
Does anyone know if the "Voom" on the Vision is the proper voom, with the appropriate hardware upgrades to access the medium earth satellites, or just the naff old internet rebranded?
I believe most of the ships are just the rebrand (which is a bit of a con), but the their Twitter account said it was "available" in May, before they announced the rebranding excercise across the board:
I don't think it's been in dry dock since 2013 though, so I'm guessing it's con-job version, but if anyone has been on it recently and could shed some light one way or the other that'd be great!
TIA

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I found this thread when I was trying to find a better quality version of the video I took last week, but seeing as nobody seems to have one I thought people might want this version:
The song is annoyingly catchy, and I still find myself whistling it now :)
