  1. I've only cruises Celebrity, but will be expanding to other lines due to the deterioration of their product. It is interesting to read everyone's comments, and to see the reasons for your choices. It shows the changing dynamics of both passengers tastes and cruise line product.

    Interesting thread.

I agree. When I tried Eclipse 5 years ago, food was top-notch matching the 5.5 star rating. This past May, I tried Reflection and the food was just ok. The MDR lobster was rubbery and salty, the worst lobster I ever had on a cruise ship.

The room staff cleaning our stateroom was excellent! The MDR server was hit and miss. In the morning when I met him in the buffet, he always smiled and talked to me. But in the evening during dinner time, he was not kind and missed my order twice. I think the workload from morning till evening has drained his smile during dinner time.

I will try Cunard Queen Mary 2 for next cruise.

  2. I cruised with Royal Caribbean twice and don't like cruising with RCL any more. Their food is below average. The buffet is the worst among all that I have tried. But their entertainment is the best! So if you rate entertainment more, then RCL 's new ship's are perfect for you.

I cruised with Celebrity twice. Food on Eclipse was excellent. Food on Reflection MDR was just ok. Not 5.5 stars. Holland America MDR food is better. I think Celebrity has downgraded since RCL bought Celebrity.

So far, I like Princess' Regal Princess more. The live band is classy!

I will definitely try Cunard QM2 this year!

  3. I wonder if I can ask a quick question, I am thinking of booking a Limousine from Malaga port, will they be able to meet me at the cruise terminal or will I first need to get over to the port gates? Thanks in advance for any help.

I think the taxi can get to the cruise terminal area. If want to take bus or HoHo bus, you will need to walk to the first roundabout where the bus and hoho bus stop there to pick up people. In the photo I showed, I think it is the white bell tower area.

  4. I am talking about our experience in Ottawa and Toronto. Since our group has 6 people, our friend called the taxi cab and asked if they have taxi that can accommodate 6 of us. The response was that we can reserve a cargo van that can accommodate all of us and our luggage. But on the day of departure, a taxi van came to pick us up instead of a cargo van. The taxi driver has experience and told us he can try to see if he can squeeze us all in. Amazing that he managed to put 6 checked luggage and 2 carry-on luggage in the van. One passenger sat beside the driver seat, two of us in the second row and 3 in the back seat row. However, the driver put a checked luggage in the second row (space was there).

When we came back the ottawa airport, we talked to the dispatcher that we needed a taxi van. The dispatcher made a call and the taxi van came from somewhere. It was a Toyota Sienna. This van was bigger than the previous van on our departure day. The trunk had a concave compartment and can fit more checked luggage. Again, the driver needed to put one checked luggage in the second row's space.

In the original plan, we thought we needed to call for two taxi. Good that our friend called the taxi company and was advised of the solution. So, you may want to call the taxi company in advance and see what they will say. It doesn't hurt to call to inquire.

  5. If you have one normal check-in luggage and a carry-on for each person, a mini-van taxi (e.g., Toyota Sienna) should be good enough for 5 persons. Our group of 6 can get in a Sienna taxi with all of our big luggage. Of course, one check-in luggage got to be placed in the second row middle. Just talk to the dispatcher at the airport and they will call the van taxi for you.

  6. We tried balcony room twice and Oceanview room once. Stayed inside for most of our cruises. I have to say that we only went to the balcony twice e for a short time. We went out for excursions or stayed in the deck or atrium most of the time. So, a stateroom is just for us to sleep. We woke up earlier because of the light from the window. Bu tif we stayed in the inside room, we can sleep longer because the room is always dark.

To cross Atlantic, you only see the ocean and nothing else. Besides, it is best to stay inside in case of rough sea. My two cents.

However, the access to fresh air is good with balcony room. But this always depends on how often you stay in your stateroom.

  7. One more question, does that mean collecting your luggage and rechecking it or do they just move it to the other plane? Thanks.

Rules change all the time. When you check in, the airline staff will inform you.

  8. We tried K ship in last May. We were quite disappointed. We met few passengers and they all said the same thing "we never feel bored on cruise and this ship certainly won the MOST BORING SHIP award".

Don't get me wrong. It is a nice ship, and the entertainment in the theatre was good. No complaint.

The major complaint I had was the band in the Queen's Lounge. Such a beautiful dance floor and was not fully utilized. The BB King band was ok, but they repeated the same songs every night. They obviously don't know the beats for ballroom dancing (their theater's band is excellent!). I think they have the rotate the bands so that different bands will play in the Queen's Lounge so that different groups' requirements can be met.

If they build another new ship with nice dance floor, but won't make good use of it, we and our group of dance friends won't be back.

I missed THE BAND in the Ocean Bar on the Nieuw Amsterdam. They are good!
