  1. And all of them happily running in the halls, pushing every button in the elevator, ignoring the serving spoons in the WJ and naturally warming up the pool.:D:D:D

probably not as many drunks, rude adults or even older adults who think they are entitled though.....

i was on in march, i know not the time your asking about but my daughter was one of 7 other kids in the kids club, they say the ship doesnt attract as many families as the larger ones do....

  2. This is the kind of BS that catches on very quickly, I predict we'll see more and more of this now that someone has had the audacity to give it a go.

yes def.. ive seen my fair share of people cruise around on the cruise on a scooter than when we are at port pop off that thing like nothing and walk the rest of the day..

on another note, my parents moved into an age restricted community, they are on the younger side.

i cant tell you how many of there neighbors have the handicap parking plates/placards and walk 4 miles a day around the development for exercise. sometimes i even see them in the clubhouse gym and park in a handicapped spot!!! i am sure its not just limited to my parents community and there is a tremendous amount of abuse just like most government programs.

  3. Have read lots about RCL being 4* and Celebrity being 5* and was curious as to why the former is more expensive.

It matters to me because, like most people, I would like the best deal.

Don't have a crystal ball to see what RCL prices will be next year but it is a pretty safe bet that they will rise, but prob too early to book yet so will wait and see.

thats the best way i would put it would be a 4 for RCCL vs 5 for celebrity.. i didn't notice any huge things, but subtle things like more choices at the omelete station in the buffet. the towels/water when you get back on the ship all little stuff though..

  4. hope some people have there anti seizure medicine when reading this thread, lol.. they will be appealed that your not wearing a tux

Nothing personal, but I sure have no desire to sit anywhere near you. Don't get too upset, I know it's "your cruise," but it's my cruise too. And on "my cruise," having a guy in a tank top in a dining room is just not appetizing to me. So hopefully while you enjoy "your cruise" in a tank top in the MDR I'll still be able to enjoy "my cruise." Should it bother me? No. Does it? Yes. Who is right? Well, according to the Dress Code, looks like I am. Sorry... you lose.

Now, if you are a hot girl with a dynamite body, forget everything I just said.

im sorry, but someone in a tank top will take away from your cruise experience. im assuming you'll be staring at him the whole time, thats the only way you would notice him right?

  5. guess im in the minority here... my family and i usually eat in the specialties close to half of the nights.. the price is going up i agree, its still a good value though. haven't had a bad meal yet there, while on the other hand i find the mdr and windjammer food to be somewhat subpar.. i think there are maybe one or two items ever that i was like i really want that again in the mdr...

  6. put a case in a checked bag in May 2013 at Port Canaveral for Freedom of the Seas. Had no problem except that we didn't drink but a couple of the bottles and had to schlep them all back in a bag and back off the **** at the end of the week. BAH.

for the minimal price of water i woulda left it, lol

  7. After reading this post a lot of people sail out of baltimore that live close because it is a way to escape the cold and not have to pay for airfare. Also Granduer is more economically priced then Quantum or Liberty when she comes back to NJ. My parents who are travel agents have noticed more people driving past the quantum to get to grandeur because of the price point. So once anthem comes to NJ full time I expect you will see a lot more people local drive to baltimore and more "exotic" people from other parts of the country will go to nj for anthem.

this is the reason why we tried granduer last month...

my take on the ship was it was an ok time.. nothing really great nothing really bad, just ok.. would i go back on the ship again, yes i would...

and i wholeheartedly agree, most of the staff seem tired/stressed.. not to say they don't have a reason to be but this was the first time i never tipped out extra cash except to one of the specialty restaurant staff. Zero WOW factor...

  8. Didn't they design Quantum for the NY market? They were promoting Quantum to the East coast like mad. Had to spend millions on that marketing campaign.

And when Bermuda said they weren't going to fix their channels without more $ help, RC pulled out and said 'we're going to China'? And now they have to rip apart a totally new ship to 'fix' it for the Asian market? And this new market is basically a test built on hopeful projections?

I didn't go to Wharton but it seems like you need more than smartness to succeed in business. You have to have luck and a big reservoir of cash (made by cutting benefits and increasing drink and food prices while lowering quality) in order to fix your own mistakes.

you can talk about cuts all you want, people are still cruising. do the cuts make a cruise less enjoyable. sure do, but until the market really reacts to the cuts and RC has a bunch of bad quarters i highly doubt anything will change and the cuts will keep coming.

And to say they made a bad decision on quantum in the NY market maybe they did or maybe there is more money to be made in china. so if they make more money in china is it really a bad decision?

. I'm sorry, and I know others won't agree with me, but shafting your own workers and cutting what should be theirs to simply bolster the company's bottom line and further fatten the wallets of the execs is not the right thing to do. Sure it makes the company more money, but is it the morally right and ethical thing to do? Oh I forget---seems that some people have no morals or ethics. They got lost in the pursuit of the almighty dollar somewhere.

there are some companies who still value there employees, but that's why you pay $7 dollars for a cup of coffee at starbucks when you can get a cup of coffee and a hardroll at a convenience store for $1.50.

  9. Exactly what I was expecting. Where do people come up with the notion that people are socialists if they don't agree with the rich getting richer off the backs of the lower paid ones? I think the real issue is that small locally owned companies tend to care about their employees and customers. The large publicly traded ones could give a rats butt about anyone other than their shareholders and execs. And I really do think that the ones who are OK with paying these execs these ridiculous salaries are the very ones that are in similar positions themselves.

quite clear who you voted for the last two elections, haha jk

so two things why don't you rebel and cancel you upcoming cruises?

and why don't you go enroll in some prestigious school like Wharton, get an MBA and become an exec yourself and reap the rewards?

  10. Wow. So I'm impressed so far. I haven't seen a single "leave the kids with grandma," or "I don't want kids on my cruise," or "you don't want to being babies on a cruise" comments here. Seems to be a miraculous event.

At any rate, we're cruising with our 19 month old, and we had taken our oldest on a cruise when he was 10 months old. We had a great time. Nap times were a bit rough trying to deal with, as his schedule was thrown off, but it all worked out, and he had a great time too!

there all in bed, when you posted this.. give them time. hahaha

my son and daughter have been cruising since they were both 6/7 months old. we brought our own Pack and Play which was is a pain, but thats what my wife wanted to do, lol.. we've had nothing but good experiences cruising with them. I never went out of FLL so can't help you there.

  11. 90% of the time we go to specialty restaurants on formal night as well. I would say business casual is how we dress when we go. ive even worn some really nice jeans/button down/ loafers a few times to test the water lol

i have also seen wrangler jeans and t shirts in there as well (on my last cruise last month actually), didn't bother me one bit.

but im sure others on this forum would have lost there appetites because the guy wasn't in a tux and ruined there experience, haha

  12. You know that reminds me, on several threads here, there are a variety of posters whose sole response to people's concerns of high prices is along the lines of "that's business, of course they're going to maximize profits," or something along those lines to defend and justify companies' actions. Sadly enough, over the years, how many production jobs have been lost to Mexico, China, and other nations in increasing numbers. Why? Because these big corporate giants care about their workers, of course! Sadly, many go to whatever measures they have to simply to increase profits, yet these tactics are defended by so many. I may be wrong, but I would venture a guess that the ones who defend such corporate actions are not the ones who have ever had to work a production, factory, assembly job, nor known people affected by these business decisions. We have given away tens of thousands of jobs, hire illegal aliens for other jobs, and countless people were put out of jobs all in the name of corporate greed--nothing more. Sadly enough, there are plenty of people on this forum who agree that the end justifies the means---make the money no matter what it takes.

so you volunteer(ed) at your job or you did it for the money and got paid? why should a company be any different.

also ive never worked in a factory but have family that have worked and some still work for various car manufacturers. if everyone at GM gets similar compensation like my one uncle who still works there, its no wonder they were circling the drain. the moving benefits, the pay while the plant re tools, the health benies, etc.. it doesn't take to much calculation to figure out how much cheaper it could be made over seas.. he is extraordinarily compensated for not a lot of work and he'll gladly let you know that... And all he does is try to beat GM at every turn and badmouth them. So why should the company care about him, making all that money and still hates the company? if i was him and seen what happen to the industry and im sure many friends of lost there jobs, id shut up and go to work every day. but he feels entitled i guess. and i know where talking about just one person, but when he still lived around here and i would go to BBQ's at his house all his coworkers had a similar attitude/stance...

regulation does not help manufacturing in this country, go ahead and try to build a new plant somewhere that builds something. you could probably get it built in china in 1/8 the time.

but on another note as transportation costs increase and other economies lower class workers make more money and want more money i think you'll see and are starting to see some stuff come back SLOWLY, but i have hope!

  13. well for those who have an issue with his salary, your always more than welcome to start your own competing cruise line and pay your CEO much less.. i too think its a lot of money but at the end of the day hes got what 60000 employees and how many hundreds of thousands of customers, stockholders, etc? i think if i had all that on my plate i would think its a fair salary too, idk?

ben and jerrys had a salary cap quite some time ago on there CEO but lifted it when they couldn't find a replacement CEO. welcome to capitalism, lol...

  14. All I did was answer someones question.

But since you are so nosy, judgmental, and misguided; I don't leave smiley faces, those fake Jesus bucks, or poems. I leave CASH. Not that it is any of your business. Why are you attacking me for answering someones question. Usually I am the only one to give a factual answer which is the purpose of this website. If you don't like the answer, write to RCI and tell them you don't like their policy.

because you said an underhanded comment about the crew not getting paid via tips and there family being impoverished. wasnt nosy, you made the post and opened yourself up to a comment. judgmental sure, misguided not so much. i understand and appreciate hardwork so i think your the misguided one. even though i feel service is slipping in certain areas on the ship at the end of the day the crew still works damn hard, they should be compensated end of story... because what do you thinks going to happen to them if they make less money, service is going to drop even more and then you and thousands of others will be the first to complain.

i have no issues with the policy. people work they deserve to get paid. everyones always looking to save a buck usually at someone elses expense..

  15.

In before someone tells you that you just impoverished the family of the guy who washes table clothes.

nice to see you appreciate there hardwork....

id hate to have to serve you and depend on your tip to make a living.. not sure if i could pay my bills the smiley face you probably leave in the tip section.. lol

  16. so i assume you have a perfect attendance record as well? no sick days no vacation days? i understand the workload is tough but to miss out on memory making moments on a vacation i think is worth it. i remember when i went to school teachers taking lots of vacations in fact i even had some teachers throughout my education who were retiring that year and burned up all there time off ....

i dont remember as a kid the affect a vacation had, but i know now after a vacation i always come back recharged and ready to work

we were on grandeur on march 3rd and there was 40 kids on the whole cruise and my daughter was one of three kids in her age group in the adventure ocean but she still had a blast there

Well, I am going to be Debbie Downer here. I am a high school teacher and it is really annoying when parents take their kids out of school for a cruise. I feel for the kids who have tons of work to make up and labs that they missed while they were on vacation. I always wondered when the parents expect the kids to make up the work and if they expected me to stay after contract hours to have their children make up the labs they missed. They also miss classroom instruction and when they return they are lost. I had one young lady tell me in tears that she would never miss school again because there was so much work to make up when she returned (her parents took her out twice for a Disney cruise in the first semester alone).

Just wondering what parents expect from us teachers in regard to making up work.

  17. On any given day on any given cruise, there are dozens of people "who really are in the know" who report something like that. It's been that way for many years. Once in a great while, by coincidence more than likely, it turns out to be true.

yes almost like going to the racetrack, everyones got a tip on a horse.. hahaha
