Thanks!  Do you know if this is something we can reserve for the day?

The link provided by kalliyan has a price guidelines that also lists a special tour/siteseeing price. The open air taxis are very reasonable and depending on the size of your party and destination or activity, a deal can be struck. Just make sure that the price is agreed upon before you leave

  2. My wife and I have only done 2 excursions in all of our cruises, 1 ship excursion and one local excursion. We do routinely rent the Gold Carts on our Bonaire stops and will continue to do so, but I don’t think I will call that an excursion as it is no different than renting a car or scooter and exploring on your own. We are beach people and, after doing some research, routinely hire a taxi and go to a beach for swimming and snorkeling. We also like to find a good local bar and try the local brew or rum. Have frequented numerous bars on many islands and we now have our favorites that we look forward to visiting at each stop.

  3. Yes. We are all just having a little fun on this Friday afternoon before a three day weekend for many!

I would suggest you get a few more posts under your belt before you start calling out your fellow CC posters! See how things work and all.

Happy Labor Day to all the Americans!! Cheers!

Now posters have to be wary of their post count BEFORE they disagree with a fellow CC poster? Talk about obnoxious, that about takes the cake.

  4. Could you tell me how long the taxi ride is? Approximately of course......this looks like something fun as we have done most of the other stuff in St. Thomas. Just trying to figure out a time to book the turtle thing and insure that my husband does not freak out in order to get back to the ship in time....Funny thing is that he used to be the LAST one on the ship! Guess now that we are older, he doesn't trust his legs being capable of RUNNING!

Taxi ride took approximately 20 minutes if I remember correctly. The price was 8 pp going and 9 pp coming back. Taxis are readily available at Coki Beach which is right next to Corral World

  5. No shuttle to Jetty Park, but there will be numerous taxi/van services available to you as you disembark. Port Canaveral Transportation (888 Taxi) was very reasonable and the driver gave us her card for a return pickup. FYI, there is a convenience store by the beach entrance at Jetty Park, but there hours are not always conducive to cruise ship arrivals so you might want to ask your driver to stop at local 7-11 or Circle K to stock up on water, chips, etc before you enter the park.

  6. Take the middle elevator to the 12th deck, exit to the left and walk towards the staterooms. 14 rooms in, you will reach a stateroom with no number assigned. knock 9 times.. thank me later.

Seeing how there are only 2 elevator banks, fore and aft, is the midship elevator a secret also?

  7. I’ve read that Moderno offers a complimentary lunch buffet on sea days. Is that true and how do you know once your aboard what days it’s going On? We are first time cruisers!

You can find the Moderno lunch buffet theme in your daily newsletter. I can remember Mexican, Italian, Indian and German themed lunches. Some of them were quite good.

  8. Must vary by sailing. When I was on in Feb all the high tops surrounding the bar had ashtrays on them and smokers were abound. It was probably triple the space smokers had on the getaway there.

I had the same experience In Sept 17. Ash tray on every table and a couple on the bar.

  9. I will never cease to be amazed when I read a review by "an experienced cruiser" that gives a poor review on a ship when the only thing that they really griped about in the review was the behavior of unattended children.

When you look at the time of the cruise it always seems to be when school is not in session.

If you really are an "experienced cruiser" you should know better than to cruise at these times. And, if you have children that have to go with you, suck it up, and realize that that is the way of the cruise world.

yes! and those unattended children are not the responsibility of NCL, nor is it NCL's job to parent them.

Why isn't this NCL's problem? There is a Guest Conduct Policy on all of Norwegian's ships. It is quite extensive and even addresses the behavior of children and the possible consequences of not following said policy.

PARENTAL AND GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITY For purposes of this Guest Conduct Policy, a minor is defined as anyone under the age of 18. A young adult is defined as anyone ages 18, 19 or 20. Parents and guardians are responsible for the behavior and appropriate supervision of their accompanying minor(s) and young adult(s) throughout their vacation. This obligation applies during transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, while onboard, at our ports of call, during shore excursions and at our private destinations. This responsibility applies at all times, regardless of whether the parents and guardians are physically in the company of their minor(s) and young adult(s).

Tell me again how is it not NCL's responsibility to address or control rude and offensive behavior by unattended children? The problem starts with parents who state they are on vacation and feel that they are on vacation from their children as well.

  10. Hello,

We took our first non-Summer cruise

(10/31/17, 12 days) on the GEM last year. There were very few children, no lines or crowds anywhere (including the pool and places to eat). We got hooked and were wondering if this was typical during longer cruises (10 days or more) on all ships during October and November? I know the GEM is a smaller ship but was also wondering if the crowds are smaller on ships like the Breakaway and Escape? The four cruises we are looking at are:

10/16/18 (11 nights) Breakaway out of NY

10/26/18 (14 nights) Dawn out of Boston

11/25/18 (14 nights) Escape out of NY

11/26/18 (12 nights) GEM out of NY

    Thanks

I absolutely loved the Escape and it is IMHO an appealing itinerary but then again GSC is never guaranteed, however, the 11 Night on the Gem is quite good also. I like the fact that the Gem is in San Juan on a Sunday and leaves at 9:00pm A lot of local bars and restaurants have live music on Sundays and my wife and I always enjoy this. BTW, the Gem had been our hands down favorite ship until we sailed the Escape in 2017

  11. Just curious.....why would you consider skipping any of these ports? If you have never been, I highly encourage you to at least disembark and experience the local flavor. Asking perfect strangers to rate their experiences best to worst would give you many different subjective results. My likes might be your dislikes vice versa.
