  1. I wanted to do my trip to Alaska in September  so we could see the northern lights. I also wanted to take the full day tour to Katishna in Denali but I’m worried that the road might close due to weather. Anyone have experience with this?

  2. Hello All...

Let me introduce myself... I'm Lee and my partner is Howard. I am a Western Australian, born and bred and Howard originally comes from Yorkshire in England, but has been in Aus for over 25 years, so I call him my Aussie who talks funny clear.png?emoji-winktongue-1704

We are busy working on our travel bucket lists and next year we have decided that it is time to go to Alaskaclear.png?emoji-cool-1690. It will be a once in a life time trip as there are still so many other places on my "Need to go to" list"

We have cruised with Princess in the past, one cruise through Indonesia and another to Papua New Guinea. We really enjoyed our cruises and decided to go with Princess in Alaska. We have booked an Off the Beaten Path NB7 Cruise Tour starting in Anchorage on 15 May next year, on Coral Princess. I did heaps of research before booking and I think this will provide us with a great experience, and I think the Coral will be a perfect fit for us, having previously loved the smaller ship (Dawn Princess) when we did our other cruises.

Coming from Western Australia is a huge trip (both in distance and $$), and I don't sleep (at all) on planes so after a bit of research we have decided to fly via Hong Kong, with a 2 day stop over on the way to Alaska and 1 day on the way home. We also stop over in Vancouver for 1 night on the way to Anchorage.

This being the only time we are likely to get to Alaska we want to do and see sooo much... I have never seen snow, so I guess that will change clear.png?emoji-grin-1677... things that are high on our list are to see bears, whales and Orca... would love to walk on a glacier... learn a bit about the native culture and also the gold rush era... would like to do either helicopter or float plane fight-seeing... while I would really love to do the glacier with dog sledding I don't think this is within our budget unfortunately...

This is where I am going to need some help/suggestions....

    1. We get in to Anchorage 2 days before our cruise tour starts and I am looking for some recommendations to things to do and see while we are there...

    2. Looking for suggestions on the best places to do and see the things on our list above...

We will have a full day and a half free at Copper River Princess Lodge

Little to no free time in Fairbanks or Denali as tours are included, plan on extending the tour in Denali to the longer one if available.

We are also at McKinley Princess Lodge but only for half a day so not sure what we could fit in there...

    Our cruise ports are Skagway (7am - 8.30pm), Juneau (6.30am - 5pm) and Ketchikan (10am - 6pm)

    3. We will also have 2 days in Vancouver at the end of our cruise before flying home, so suggestions for what to do there would be great as well.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give us clear.png?emoji-smile-1742

You said tours were included at Denali. Ours was also. It was the 4 hour tour. If you have the time there update it to the 8 hour tour. If we had done the 4 hour we would have only seen a moose. By doing the 8 hour we saw grizzly bear and cub, caribou. I think we saw every animal except a wolf. Now there is no guarantee you will see what we saw it is definately worth taking the chance. Also the scenerary got better and better the further in.

All in all the scenerary is absolutely magnificent. It was a trip of a lifetime for us.

    Linda and Tom Indiana.

  3. We will be on our cruise tour next week. We leave Fairbanks and travel to Wilderness lodge. We should be there between 1-2. Our tour starts between 2-3. We should be back around 10-11. When do we eat as the restaurants will be closed. Hubby is a diabetic and must eat. Is there a place in the lodge we can get sandwiches to take on the tour with us?

  4. we leave on our Alaska cruise/tour on Monday. Our room is yet to be assigned. We do the land portion first. We are suppose to separate what we won't need for the cruise portion in aseparate suitcase as they will take it from us and we won't see it until the ship. I am a little nervous as we won't have a cabin number on our luggage tag. Has this happened to anyone else?

  5. We can drink that many on board drinks. No I am not an alcoholic. In fact I usually only have 1-5 drinks in a year but when I am on a cruise I like to experiment with different drinks that I have never had before. If I don't like it at least I haven't thrown away $10 bucks

As for how do they know what a manager will say I think it is rude of them to say that. Yes, Saturday is Saturday and that will not change but there is a gray line here. No where does it state in the policy that both have to take the OBC or both have to take the drink package. Implied doesn't mean it is. Example, Christmas is coming. Does that mean gifts.? Yes. But not always.

By no means am I reading that any of you are posting negative comments and I thank you all for your opinions. But I just don't see how they can get away implying something. Linda

  6. Booked a Panama Canal cruise with the sip and sail promotion. It says it is available for guest 1&2 in the room. If the all inclusive beverage package is not wanted then a $200 OBC per person can be taken instead. I can drink so I want this but due to hubby's medications he cannot drink. So I want the drink package and he wants the OBC. They are telling me it can't be split. Either both have the OBC or both the drink package. That isn't what it shows on the promotion. I asked for a supervisor and She then hung up on me. I called back and again asked for a supervisor. Supposedly got one and she told me the same thing. I asked for her supervisor and was told that they will tell me the same thing. How do they know that. Are they a mind reader? They are out until Monday. I had to leave a voice mail because no where at reservation is ther a supervisors supervisor working on a Sat. I am very frustrated. ( thanks for letting me vent) Linda

  7. Ship docks in Ft Lauderdale on Sunday 10/11. I have a flight back home booked for 11am. Do you think this is a problem? We usually drive but decided this time to fly. We are platinum members so I think we can depart when we want to. So. Should I try to change my flight or will I be able to make it. Thanks Linda

  8. we will be disembarking in Fort Lauderdale. Our flight is at 11:00. We are platinum so we can get off early. I have never used the Princess transfers. Do you think it would be less stressful to just grab our luggage, go through customs and grab a cab or do you think we should go with Princess transfer?. I am really not concerned about the cost as much as I am the stress. Thanks Linda.

  9. Thank you all for your information. I just read every post. I have a few questions. First, I have sailed, Celebrity, Princess, Carnial, Disney, Royal Caribbean but never Holland America. It is my understanding that Princess Loyalty sends my info to Holland America so that I will already have a Mariner Number. I understand this will get me into the MDR on embarktation day. My questions regarding this is do I get the same level as I have with Princess or do I start at the beginning with Holland America? Also am I eligible for a past guest discount (not sure if Holland offers this but Princess and Carnival does). My next question and I don't mean to ruffle any feathers is that people told me not to use Holland because everyone is so old. With that being said hubby is 65 and I am 62. I kind of think that we fall into that group??? lol. What do you find is the average age for cruises. We are thinking of a 14 day cruise next year to Alaska. Thanks again for your help. Linda

  10. Thanks. He is the only person I have ever heard that they didn't like the land tour. I think what he did was take a cruise tour on celebrity. Thanks for your help. We are hoping to do this in 2016. lots of time to research.

  11. My brother went to Alaska last year on Celebrity. He did a land tour first and then cruised. He said if he had to do it again he wouldn't do the land tour. He said it was very hectic. Rush rush rush. On one tour the bus used for a long tour was more like a school bus so it was very uncomfortable. He hardly saw any animals even on the train. I am so disappointed to hear this. Is this the norm?

  12. Wow is right! Which passport processing location did you use?

(((Making a note for future reference...)))

I live in Indiana. The instructions said to send to

    For routine service.

    National Passport Processing Center

    post Office Box 90155

    Philadelphia, Pa 19190-0155

It recommends due to the sensitivity of the documentments ( had to enclose expired passport) that it be sent using a track able mailing service which we did.

The postmaster said because we were sending on a Friday and there was a holiday that Monday they wouldn't get it until Tues 10/14. I paid only $110 renewal fee. It arrived in the mail on Monday 10/20.

  13. When looking at the deck plans there is a spot that has a drop down to change the number of passengers. The default will be ANY. Change it to 3 and it will gray-out all the cabins that don't already have the ability to house 3 passengers. The cabins that are still "colored in" will be ones that already have the drop-down bunk in the ceiling.

Thanks for the tip on the deck plan. When looking, some say roll away bed and others say pull down bed. Mini suite states sofa bed. My daughter is 41 years old and although she is my kid, she isn't a kid. Do you think she would be comfortable with any of the options? Sofa bed, Pullman drop down bed having to climb a ladder or roll away bed? Thanks

  14. We are thinking of taking our Adult daughter on a cruise in April as a graduation present. It has been a very hard 4 years for with 3 children 17, 14, 9, hubby and going to school making the chancellors list every semester. If we book a balcony it says a roll a way bed will be placed in the room for our cruise. How comfortable is that bed? Thanks. Linda
