  1. It was just a really crappy day and I don't think NCL handled it well. They probably could have figured out the night before or certainly before calling everyone to line up, that they weren't able to make it. They ask you to reserve a tender, but it's not clear, so the line was huge with people who had no idea they were supposed to reserve the tender. They run the line through the casino with that horrible smoke smell. As we stood in the line that barely moved for an hour, I was told my kids couldn't sit on the stools in the casino so they were forced to sit on the floor or we had to carry them. They said they'd add extra activities, they didn't except for 1 arts and crafts event. They told us there that they'd have free bingo, that turned out to be buy one get one free, so us, along with about 10 other families, promptly left "free" bingo. They told us we could go assure in Nassau but when my inlaws asked they told them it would be several more hours and to listen to an announcement, none was ever made. Finally, we got stuck paying for taxes on our drinks because they moved the boat to Nassau, not that we had access to the island.

I understand these things happen and it's a safety issue ,but that doesn't change how disappointing it is. Port Canaveral isn't much of a port, so this left us with 1 nice beach day the whole week. It would have been nice if they had done some special pool games or activities or something

Do you pay taxes on drinks when docked at every port? I thought it was just NYC.

  2. Thank you, I will be sure to download the app before I travel as it will make life easier and not having to stress about moving about the ship.

I take it there is a cost for activating the messaging service

Its a free app to download but to message or call or phones on the ship there is a flat fee of 7.95 for each phone. My daughter is bringing her ipod and we already downloaded the app. So we will register all our phones and ipods. That way she can text us when she wants to get out of Splash academy.

  3. We have a check in time of 10am/10:30am. Ive been researching post on getting to the terminal parking. I heard 9A North is super busy. Is the best way from the Lincoln tunnel to find 10th street and take it down turning left on 55th street. Has anyone taking this route, if so how was traffic. And or another route, that worked for you. Our hotel is closer to the Lincoln tunnel so it would not make sense to use the Wash. Bridge.

  4. I think it depends on your personalities. If you are go with the flow kind of people then just check out one of the screens for what's available. Sure, you might have to eat a little later or go to a restaurant that's not your first choice but you can always make a reservation on board for another night if you still haven't gotten to the one you really want. However, if you (or people you're with) are the kind of person who likes a schedule and you want to be sure you can go exactly where and when you like then I'd make reservations.

DH and I find that we'd rather wing it than have to be beholden to a schedule, but that's just us. We frequently make reservations in the morning or the night before on the ship. That way we know what our schedule is and we have the daily for the day etc. If you're sure what you want though you may as well make them now, better safe than sorry.

Sorry, that ended up a little more convoluted than I intended when I originally started writing :)

Thanks. Yeah we don't want a crazy schedule. I'll do just that and check out the screens, menu's etc. I don't care if I eat early or late. I did make a reservation at Le Bistro and I figure we will do the rest on board.

  5. We are a family of 3, me (41), dh (40) and dd (11). Also my in-laws will be on board with us. I saw you can make reservations for the main dinner room, is this really necessary. Will it be forever to get a table for 5.

We choose the drinking package so we are going to one possibly two specialty restaurants but that would just be the two of us. Would that be a good idea to make a reservation at the specialty restaurant or could the 2 of us get a table that same day.

  6. I highly recommend Park Right on W 43rd St. You drive there first, and an attendant will bring you to the pier in your car to drop you and your bags off. Nice to not have to schlep all your stuff. Very professional service. When you return, you can call, or it's a short walk.

I Just reserved parking here. Looks good.

  7. I see the ship gets back to NYC at 8am. Can you tell me what time I can expect to be off the ship. I want to schedule parking and they want a time for pick up. With that said, any good options for parking. I found one I like but more suggestions would be great.
