  1. Anyone worried about using RomeCabs, but your fears to rest. I have a reservation with them tomorrow 11/14, and this morning I received an email from them with new instructions about meeting our driver do to renovations being made at FCO. Just another example of their professionalism and customer service.

  2. Can't remember what we did to confirm, but I do think emailing them is the best. Just wanted you to know we just used them from the airport to the hotel and again from the hotel to the port and they were fabulous. Right on time both trips. I would use them again with no reservations.

I clicked on the link also, but just to be sure I emailed Rome Cabs and received back a very pleasant confirmation several months ago. Just to bring my reservation to the front of their mind, yesterday evening I sent another email to re-confirm my reservation and received another very pleasant response confirming my reservation for this Tuesday. I sent the email at 5:30 pm central and received a response at 2:30 am central. Record time, I think.

  3. Hi to all Cruisers, We are going on a 10-day Tahiti to Tahiti in February, We booked an A-1 Concierge level Veranda, We just got an offer for a Penthouse Suite -1 for 1,000 pp. advise needed would you take the offer? is the extra space worth it.........

We did this cruise in 2015 and did not get an upgrade offer until about 5 days before the ship sailed. Every day there after, I received a better, less expensive offer, to upgrade from my A1 suite to at least a penthouse. I believe that historically, this cruise does not sell well. I would wait. However, if you choose to accept the offer, just remember, it may be difficult to go back to your regular cruising level.

  4. I have taken the OBC in the past. Thinking about Liquor pkg. next time. Can you only get the comp. wine by the glass in the restaurants ? If it is lunch time can I get my glass of wine from a bar ?

With the basic Beverage Package you can only get wine or beer with lunch or dinner while eating. I do not think you can go to the bar, get a glass of wine and then take it to where you are then going to eat. With the Prestige package you can get a glass of wine from the bar and take it to lunch or dinner.

  5. Just wondering - with a drinks package do you still pay the extra 18% gratuity/fee per drink?

No, the 18% gratuity is already calculated into the cost of the beverage package. On my last Oceania cruise, most of the wait staff knew I had the Prestige package by the second day and I did not have to show my card or sign a ticket.

  6. Hmmm James

In that case, I'd have just a slim slice of cucumber.

This thread is great for Gin (and tonic) experts ;)

P.S. Do try "The Botanist" - a rare gin from the Island of Islay. On a recent trip to Ireland I discovered "Dingle" gin and "Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin" (oriental botanicals with gunpowder tea)... both excellent products.

French law obliges me to say "consume in moderation"

Thanks for your input. Glad to know that Fever Tree is available on board.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look for the Irish gins.

  7. Thanks for that JMBobB !

Now add Tanqueray 10 or Hendricks.... nirvana :D

If I were drinking Hendricks, I would not dilute it with tonic. I enjoy Hendricks and lime at home.

From Spirit I went to Malta ...we loved it ..what an awesome place ...gorgeous

We did a great tour of Madeira, when we went. The driver took us all over the island and up the mountain to a place where the nuns went for safety. You could see the valley on the other side of the mountain and is was superb.

We wanted to go to Malta, David's father had been stationed there during WWII, but we had to cancel. Still looking forward to that trip.

  10. Sorry James - while I didn't make it clear, I was actually responding to post number 21 which asked about "upgrade offers" and not your post.

I did not take any offense by your post. You are correct, an upgrade is usually at no cost while an upsell is at an additional cost.

  11. That is a great upgrade. Of course, you know there is no going back once you experience the A2. [emoji3]

You are correct and I used the term "upgrade" to denote that while the passenger is paying an extra cost for a different cabin, the new cabin is an "upgrade" from the previous cabin, IMO.

  12. We are sailing from Papeete in February.

Embarkation day is the 3rd but the ship leaves early 5am on the 4th.

Does O usually fly you in to arrive early a.m. on embarkation day or late that evening ?

Would like to know what people have experienced.

    Thanks

When we did our cruise departing from Papeete, we left LAX at midnight arrived Papeete about 6:00 am and went to one of the pre-cruise hotels for breakfast. Arrived at the ship around 10:00 am. Sail away was about 5:00 pm, if I remember correctly. Had a fabulous cruise, I love the sea.

  13. Sailing soon. I got a upsell offer from a veranda to concierge cabin for $200 pp

Are the concierge features worth the added expensive ? Cabin size is the same. I have already made reservations at the specialty restaurants with no problem. I have booked my excursions. Not in any hurry to board the ship. Is there any feature that makes spending the extra $400 worth it?

Having done both Veranda and Concierge cabins, I do not think it is worth the additional expense. I prefer a cabin in the middle of the ship, that is the only advantage I have found. The Concierge Lounge is not worth an additional $400.00, IMO. Of course, you may want to try it once and determine for yourself the value. Or wait and see if Oceania makes you a better offer.

  14. From our 20 prior cruises I think this is the first time we've waitlisted. I'm not too concerned about missing this cruise as most of the other catagories are available .

As far as making a deposit & later cancelling, sometimes plans have to change and I don't have a problem with paying a small cancellation fee if cancelling more than 90 days out. Alternatively if one cancels one year before the departure, should they loose a $1500 deposit ? I think that's a little steep , especially since the cruise line has plenty of time to resell the cabin. On the other hand, cancelling shortly before departure does put the cruise line into a potential loss situation.

I was not aware that if you cancel a cruise a year before departure, you loose your $1500 deposit. It was my understanding that a deposit carries over for two years. If you have not cruised within that time, Oceania must return the deposit. Has Oceania changed their policy.

  15. I have been on 3 Oceania cruises, and never found the lounges (bars) to be unusually busy. The wait staff is usually very prompt and always bring in addition to the regular snacks (pretzels, nuts, chips) something special that the chef has whipped up. If one lounge seems to busy for you, go to another.

  16. We just booked a cabin near the laundry room, on the starboard side. My recollection is that the door to the laundry room is on the port (left facing forward) side of the ship on the smaller "R" ships. Is that correct? Any thoughts about noise from the laundry room?

    Mary

We were opposite the laundry room a few years ago and honestly could not hear any noise from it. I found that being that close to the laundry facilities was great. James

  17. That sounds like one brilliant flavour mix.Do you think I can request one in my suite??.[emoji38]

For a gin that is a little less expensive, but I think is still very good, try Hendricks Gin. It is best when chilled, so I keep a bottle in the refrigerator.

  18. Sailing April 9th on NCL Getaway - I will try the meeting. I'm traveling with 2 teen kids so essentially by myself lol....Anyone else on this sailing?

Enjoy yourself and let the teens do whatever they want. As long as they don't fall overboard, your good.

  19. This is a quote from a recent review of the Riviera: "The Hollandaise sauce was less than stellar." I will say the person indicated their foodie "gold standard" is how well eggs benedict are prepared.

Should I cancel my upcoming TA or hope she's not at the next table?

If the only thing someone can say negative about a cruise is that their "Hollandaise sauce was less than stellar", I would respond by saying "stay away from the Hollandaise sauce." To reduce any cruise, especially Oceania, to something so trivial is absurd. I can't believe someone would take the time to post such a minor detail, detail being so overstated. No cruise is going to meet everyone's expectations. As Disney said "Accentuate the positive." Why dwell on the negative?

  20. Just curious. How long was your rehab? Haven't decided on it yet.

They said on my rehab it would be 90 days before full activity (I play tennis) but on the second replacement I was playing again in about a month. They make you walk (assisted) almost immediately after the surgery and physical therapy within a day or two. Physical therapy was 3 times a week for 10-12 weeks.

This type of recovery is not typical, my Dr. told me, everyone is different. But the advances they have had between my first knee replacement and my second were like night and day. In Memphis, they are doing full knee replacement surgery on an out patient basis.

Find a good Orthopedic Surgeon you trust and do everything they say.
