  1. While in the DL you can have as many drinks as you want. They don't count with the 3 drinks available at the bars.

We will have our three drinks at a bar each ... mango margaritas, wine, probably a beer or champagne. We are not cruisers who start drinking when we wake up. We are doing an inside cabin this trip so we will be out and about watching the Atlantic flow by — with no kids or grandsons.

  2. Walking distance

But then again unless the posters here are reading news reports other than cc comments, they wouldn't know there are reports of rioting spreading to Cap Haitian

True... I read the news reports a few days ago and it sounded like the violence started at Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitian almost at the same time as the fuel hike was announced. Haven’t heard too much about it lately so hoping for the best.

  3. Not much of a fence and can easily be breached if serious rioting breaks out. Won't count on those pistol packing rent-a-cop guards either. They will likely run and disappear at the first sign of trouble. And then there are those pesky vendors to deal with. Welcome to paradise Haiti.

I think if that happened the Haitian military would intervene. Not sure how far the city is from Ladabee but I don’t think it is that far. I have been trying to find out any updates and it is kinda quiet. So keeping fingers crossed...

  4. Nothing announced by RC.

As I recall Labadde has its own enhanced security measures. Cape Haitian is the northern city that is undergoing the civil unrest over fuel prices. I have heard about the trouble in capital but not the city closest to Labadde. State Department has just issued a Level 4 warning Not safe to travel to Haiti. So I think it will just be a matter of time before RCI does something and/or I pray the trouble subsides.

  5. My wife went on the flow rider with a two piece bikini, left with a one piece.... Took her about 10 sec. to realize it. Now I know why there is always a majority male crowd looking on. worst part I was recording her ride on my phone. Maybe i should delete it[emoji848]

What is your most embarrassing cruise memory?

I think it would have to be getting back like two hours late on a RCI sponsored trip to an ancient Mayan ruin. We went from Costa Maya to almost Belize! Lots of security checkpoints! The port was dark when we rolled up in the van. Ship lights blazing down and I am sure there was red steam coming out of the captain’s ears and the air was blue as we ran the gauntlet up the remaining gangplank.

I too have had swimsuit issues but managed to quickly find the trunks in the pool. No photos taken I hope.

  6. Best way to do this.

When you are boarding the ship, have your two bottles of wine in your carry on luggage. Also pack an wine opener if you go the cork route vs screw top. Your cabin steward can and will supply a wine opener but it may be a little wimpy. There may or may not be wine glasses in the cabin, most likely not. Buy a glass of wine in any of the bars and return to your cabin with it in hand.

Upon finishing the purchased glass of wine, refill it from your brought on-board bottle of wine. Proceed around the ship with this glass of wine. Feel free to return to your cabin as needed to replenish.

Now to back up a bit. Why I recommend putting the wine in your carry luggage, is that if it is packed in your checked baggage, it may be flagged for further review and you may need to go to the naughty room to retrieve said baggage.

Lol ... yeah that has happened to us before. We waited and waited for the luggage to come and went to the main dining room in our arrival clothes. Still no cases and we had to ask.

We have further thought that for this trip we might bypass the porters and bring our small cases on board with us. We have done this before and it is a minor inconvenience having to wheel it around. We hit the pool straight after getting on the ship anyway.

  7. Hi trying to find out if anyone uses off site parking or just park at the Royal Caribbean terminal? Sailing July 20 on the Adventure of the Seas

We have done off site parking (once) at Bayonne and it was successful but a bit of a nail biter. The guy who shuttled us from the lot to the cruise port was great and managed to evade most of the traffic. We did park early and I would recommend doing the same to avoid any possible snags with traffic and the etc.

I think it would also be good to call ahead a few lots and get an idea about their price and policy of dropping off and picking up. There is nothing worse then being able to see the ship but to be stuck in traffic. For us it was not close to time but ya know you can’t wait to get on the ship?

We have also paid for parking at the dock twice and then you have to face the prospect of sitting in traffic that crawls for a while.

So we have had pretty good luck coming and going for both options.

For either option at least you won’t be doing it like we did in the cold and snow.

Have a great cruise from a great American port!

  8. I know it sounds strange, but the corkage fee has nothing to do with opening the bottle. It has to do with bringing the bottle (open or not) to a public venue.

Ah... thank you...clear as mud. I think we will bring our cheap wine on board and see if we get charged or not.

  9. we had four bottles of wine on board (two cabins). My wife would have a glass while getting ready for dinner, top it off and bring it to dinner. She'd often get a cocktail at dinner. A few nights in, she said she wanted wine. I asked my server (same one all seven nights even though MTD) if he was going to charge me a corkage fee. He looked at me like I had three heads and said no. I went and grabbed the wine and, good soldier that she is, she polished it off...

Thanks to everyone for their input .... as I recall the time we have brought wine bottles on board our luggage has been delayed. Sooo... we are six of one half a dozen of the other. We will miss the wine package.

I am thinking of conducting an experiment for this trip:

    (1) a bottle of cheap but drinkable moscato $8.00

    (2) a bottle of cheap but drinkable merlot $8.00

(One of the best wines I have ever had was the merlot my daughter brought back in. a plastic milk jug from Sicily)

    (3) see how long it takes our luggage to arrive at stateroom (which is basically immaterial to us as we backpack swimsuits and etc)

    (4) see what happens when we ask for a bottle opener.

I wonder if twist off tops would make a difference? Perhaps we would have to pay ourselves an opening “fee”. Okay, tongue is out of cheek.

Please stay tune for the results (cruise review) and our other antics from our foray back into the Bermuda Triangle.

  10. Have you checked the price on even the cheapest bottle of wine on board? In any event, it’s been widely reported that waiters have been reluctant to charge the corkage fee. Ymmv. In any event, if you are only having one glass, there is never a charge for bringing in a glass of wine.

Thanks for the input ... and we could even walk in with a cocktail (free of charge) we have been away from cruising about three years and are keeping an open mind with RCI ... our daughter ust to work for the line and we have had a lot of good memories on Grandeur.

$15 dollar de-cork fee per an $8 buck bottle of wine? They can forget that...buying a bottle of wine at the table is more cost effective.

We are going into this cruise with an open mind ... we love the ship and have have had good times on Grandeur and as a Diamond Crown and Anchor look forward to everyone having a good time on a great ship.

Can’t wait to give a review of the ship and crew and etc.

  12. We are returning to the sea after a hiatus for Europe and Maroon 5 concerts. As Diamond members we like the small ships so we can sit back and watch the ocean flow. We sail on Grandeur for Bermuda this month and asking for any input on the Old Lady. We started cruising in 2007 on her to Bermuda and love the sea days

    Thanks

Thanks everyone... maybe we have been gone three years lol... we may bring the two bottles on board... I think they have a de-corking/service fee. If I am not mistaken the wine must be consumed in stateroom. Or buy a good moscato and share it between the two of us. We can’t wait to get back to sea!
