  1. We are returning to cruising after a two year hiatus on Grandeur out of B’more in a few weeks. My wife tried to find a wine package on the website and no luck. So she called and Yup no more wine packages. I guess it was not cost effective from them? So I guess the work around is to buy a bottle in the dining room for our glass of wine with dinner. Just curious...

  2. To me the advantage with carry on luggage is actually carry off. When u start a cruise u want to have lunch , swim in pool, walk about. U can't get to your room until a set time. But getting off the ship is another story. My wife and I pack cases with a mind to carry then off at the end. U don't want to be sitting around waiting for your group to be called. By carrying off u get a jump at customs / immigration etc. We take a bag on with swim suits etc and enjoy ourselves. Porter on but Carry off. It makes sense.

  3. We had a great time on this cruise...first time Carnival cruisers...ship was great...food was good...service was outstanding...weather was a bit rainy in Barbados and had to switch St. Kitts to Dominica due to wind. We only got off at St. Thomas for Meagan Bay and St. Lucia for horseback riding...loved having the ship to ourselves. During the cruise never had trouble finding a table to eat. Ship is well thought out with bathrooms close to the pool...what a winning concept! Did not do any shows...they lean towards comedy and singing and dancing. All in all it was a nice relaxing cruise on a great ship

  4. Sailed her four times...see our history below.

Remember she is a small ship. If you like lots of shops (Freedom or Quantum) might not be the best fit.

However if you like cruising past history Fort McHenry or bridges and tunnels (Bay Bridge And Hampton Roads at night) this is your ship. We like sea days and sitting on deck 5 looking out at the sea and reading. Bermuda is pricey and Hamilton shuts early but there is the search for the pink sand beaches. We like Tobacco Bay beach at St Georges (water taxi and a walk)..small and sheltered from the surf of the Atlantic. The refurbished was well done

  5. We just got off Quantum of the Seas early Friday am and it is a WOW! The ship while boxy looking on the outside is packed with so many superlatives it is hard to know where to begin. So I while run through a quick list: sky diving at sea can be done (IFly)...hovering over three hundred feet above the ship while moving (North Star)...Broadway quality shows (Mama Mia) and new concept shows (Sonic Odyssey and StarWater)...SeaPlex for bumper cars roller skating and basketball..etc Special treat from the Captain FREE WI- FI for the entire cruise. The horrors we read about with dynamic dining did not appear. Oh we did have to wait five minutes to get into Silk. The assistant waiters are back but they have almost the other direction with more wait staff at each table. We were part of a focus group with RC execs and gave our input. They are working on tech issues and Dynamic Dining is being tweeked. MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE AND CHECK BEFORE YOU GO. If you have trouble COMPLAIN. RC will work with you. We were unable to book Wonderland but talked to management and got in. You have options on Quanrum. Like to dress up try the Grande (main dining room)...New exotic food Wonderland. All in all had a great time! FREE TIP: to work your stateroom lights you must insert your sea pass card into the lughr contril by the door. BON VOYAGE!

  6. We love the Grandeur of the Seas and have been aboard her four times. I especially like the run out to Bermuda. These are our recollection of state side

You get the sense that you are way out there cos you actually are! The best is if you can drive to B-more Maryland and park literally on the dock and look up and see her. It is a bit of a wiggle to get to the Port of Baltimore so care should be taken. The porters are friendly and helpful. Checkin has always been easy for us. Grandeur is an older lady but still has charm. The central Centrum is a good central point for relaxing and music listening dancing. When we first saw her back in 2007 we thought she was huge. Little did we little did we know. Our favorite times have been on the non smoking side of deck 5 watching the waves go by...The main dining room wait staff knowing what we like and how our day went...Hanging out in the Solarium. Smaller ships seem to have a more relaxed rhythm to them. Dont know if you are going to Europe port o calls but the ship is intimate and friendly.

  7. I have received a lot of info about Martinque. One responder cautioned not to lump all people into one basket. And normally I would agree except for Paris which does have near universal opinion for rudeness. As a side note we will be visting Patis this summer for a day and am looking forward to the experience NOT. So I will try my high school French in Martinque. So we will wander as we have never been.

  8. I am not sure I understand the logic of that behavior. We have been on some very poor islands and the people have been great...waving and smiling as we went by. I have not been to Paris/France but have heard there is a rudeness there also. It is a little part of France transplanted into paradise.

How abour St. Kitts? It is an English island. Nice beaches?

Getting back to my original idea for the thread..we have checked and are still in the system for our reservations for dinners.

  9. We are cruising on Quantum on 1/11/15 and glad to hear Dynamic Dining worked for u. Usually we eat later but we are cruzing with another couple so we have to eat early. Sorry to hear about the service...this is a pet peeve with me and I can only hold my tongue for so long. This is a vacation for us and we all know life is hard etc It is what it is.. We love the sea and the line so we know we will have a great time. Thanks again.
  10. Grear! Thanks for these helpful suggestions...We will try to remain open minded...I was getting worried so we made reservations for about half the trip (Chic, Jamies, American Icon, Izumi and some of these times two)...The rest we have left open for Windjammer (WJ) (which in the past has not been bad for a buffet dinner) altho I have heard that is not the traditional WJ. I believe that not having assistant waiters is a mistake...we are ust to long diiners on RC but three hours is stretching it a bit.

  11. We are leaving out of Bayonne/Cape Liberty on Quantum on 1/11/15 for a 12 day cruise. The four of us are experienced Diamond Crown and Anchor cruisers. But we have yet to face "Dynamic Dining" . I think we have covered all our bases by reserving dinners and shows. Any suggestions or lessons learned would be appreciated from past Quantum cruisers. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
