  1. Does anyone know how much the per minute cost is to call off-ship through the app? I know these things are subject to change, and the most recent price I can find is $.79 per minute back in 2013. Verizon charges $2.50 AND you get charged for incoming calls even if you don't answer.

I get a lot of calls every day from work folks and want to make sure my boss is the only one who can call me if it's an emergency. I figure if I can connect to the app before sailaway, I can text him the # the app assigns so he can call me even if my phone is in airplane mode.

  2. We're crazy and are flying in same day as the cruise. Flying into Hobby, cruising out of Bayport. This is our first cruise and we didn't even consider flying in the day before because we are green and naive. =P

Our plan had been to take a taxi from the airport to a CVS and buy some water and soda, then head to port. Our plane is scheduled in at 11:30 and now I'm getting anxious about not having enough time. Should we be taking a shuttle and skipping the CVS? We don't drink enough soda to justify the plan, but we do drink enough that paying per drink will be a little annoying. Does anyone have experience with this kind of timeline? Is a taxi easy to get at Hobby and reasonably priced to Bayport? !pleH

  3. I am the worst at footwear, ya'll. I wear ballet flats and Chucks like, 90% of the time. BUT I'm going to be on a Western Caribbean cruise the 17th, and I just discovered my favorite flats have been discontinued and my current ones are super worn out, so I need ideas.

We're going to be trying a 7-night-carry-on-only plan, so I need to find one good pair of flats or sandals to wear with primarily sundresses (blue and pink shades mostly I think). We're on Norwegian so I'm not worried about formalwear. The hangup is that I'm super whiny about my feet - flip-flops hurt, anything that rubs or squeezes the wrong way is going to cause my husband to consider leaving me in Honduras permanently, lol. I think it's because I've got feet that are just a bit fat...things tend to squeeze me differently, haha.

Suggestions? What kind of walking sandals or flats do you guys like to use? For the record, my absolutely favorite pair of flats were Dexflex Comfort from Payless...I had three colors and wore them with eeeeverything.

  4. Thank you everyone who has responded!! There was some really helpful information here! I'll try to remember to post a review when we get back. I'm currently scouring the Gulf Coast threads to try and figure out a good place to buy soda in between the airport and Bayport (and how much a taxi will cost to stop off). We're not drinkers so the basics will be fine with us, but it would be nice to have a bit of Dr. Pepper here and there. :)

  5. Hi all,

We're about to go on our first ever cruise on the Jewel on 1/17 out of Bayport. I've been reading the forums a ton (thank you all - just bought my travel insurance due to the high likelihood of fog), and I'm seeing a lot of references to things that I didn't know existed, so I thought I'd ask:

What are some things that first timers may not know?

Example: I've seen references to a Spa Pass, a Chef's Table, etc...I have no idea what those are, how much they cost, how to get them (although I've figured some of it out by context, lol.)

What are some things we should consider trying that we may not know exist?

Basically, I'm saying GIVE ME ALL YOUR SECRETS. =P
