That's also true on other lines as well. I was so happy to turn 55 expecting to get a discounted cruise. Here I am 3 years older and no discounts. I may as well be 45.  The residents discount seems to be non existent in the Northeast as well.

We have been fortunate with the Pennsylvania res. discount on three we have booked. We never got a discount on NCL. I guess I just picked a good day to book!

All prices should have risen with this new "sale" since it went from 30/30% off (60%) to 50% off-  They should be 10% more than they were March 31st

This would hold true if there were an actual "base" price. I check every day, saved $650 at one point using the same "sale", residency, discount, etc. under which I booked. Royal has no set price that they discount from. The "base" for another cruise we are taking in August has fluctuated by several hundred dollars.

I'm thinking this whole RoyalUP thing might be affecting price drops, and not in a good way for us.

I have been checking prices daily. Our GS on Allure for June went up 740 dollars overnite with the new "sale" We have not received a Royal Up offer yet, but there are 39 suites above the GS level available. Inflating the price may make the Royal Up look like a deal when it really is not.

    NCL does the same thing.

We have sailed on the Allure/Oasis in 2 L2 and 2 L1, and this upcoming May and June we will once again be in an L1 and L2.

I like the L2 and the DH likes the L1.

We were the second cabin over facing the basketball court.

We only heard the cries of victory when we were on the balcony.

With the suite door closed, we heard some not many muffled sounds.

    Never bothered us.

    Privacy?

    Not a problem.

Those two story windows and the drapes when closed properly make the cabin dark.

And we loved just being on the balcony people watching.

    Velcro??????

Where?  In fact at night when we could go to sleep, the gentleness of the sea, rocked us to sleep.

And there were some nice waves some nights and we did not notice it anymore than being on the Promenade.

    Soot.

    Never experienced it.

    We love the 17th deck.

The privacy of your own, deck.

    Closeness to CK and lounge.

    Yea were addicted to them.

    Enjoy we do.

    Safe travels.

I have to admit that i did ZERO research as I booked this cruise in a flurry during a blizzard after we had to cancel a February cruise at the last minute. I didnt realize that Royal has this little suite-area on 17 which really puts me in the mind of the NCL Haven  where we have spent our last 8 or so cruises. It sounds amazing and I love being rocked to sleep. Thanks so much!

  5. I have been reading some reviews of the Crown Loft Suites on both Allure and Oasis.

the biggest complaints seemed to be much vibration from being up so high . The L1 suites have few complaints but the L2 also complain of soot, noise from basketball court and lack of privacy. Hoping I may get a Royal UP for our June cruise; can anyone shed some light on the suites - especially the L2. I dont think I want an L2; I like seeing the water and not at a distance!  There were some complaints of everything being velcro attached due to movement. L1 looks nice but is presently $1,800  more than i paid for a GS for the two of us.

    Thanks so much

I know that Freedom has meh suite perks. we like the size of the suites. As this cruise is with only one sea day we wont be needing much like aconcierge or the "Genie/butler we were assigned on nCL. We were looking at ALlure and to accommodate all of us in suites was a minimum of 19K- the two suites that  we now have came to less than half of that. Looking forward to this cruise-we sailed in the same suite seven years ago.

I assume that the breakfast is the private breakfast in the specialty restaurant, either Chops or Giovanni's Table, depending on the ship.

    yes it is

I agree with gerif!  We have had this issue on a couple of cruises. Onboard the Splendour for a Baltic cruise our daughter (18 at the time) and her girlfriend decided they wanted to come with us! DH and I were reserved in an OS and we were not able to book a connecting cabin or across the hall inside cabin.  However, there was an inside cabin just around the corner that I thought was suitable.  Found someone in customer relations and voila...    Escalate it..Royal wants your money and wants to keep you happy.  Happy and safe travels.

I spoke with he BEST service rep when I boked this and another cruise several days ago. Today I think I had the reincarnated Three Stooges!

I ended up moving Mom into the bigger suite with me and the hubby OR she will be with the kids in the same suite . Well see. They know this is probably a once in a life time thing for Mom . They are 18,20 and 20 and want to spoil her!

I was able to get a great deal on a Grand Suite on another deck and waitlisted on the deck our 2br is on. I know they wont let the young adults stay alone in that suite so maybe the hubs and I will take it and leave the party to the old and the young!

    Thanks for all your responses

I know that the suite hold 8 but we want Mom to have privacy; she thinks that the second bedroom is perfect. ill feel better having her close by as she is quite hard of hearing.

    Thanks for the replies, all!!

Thank you so much- as we take Mom on her first cruise she asked to have some of Dad's ashes spread. he was a King's Point grad and his first love was the sea. THANK YOU!

Not sure that I am understanding your question - sounds like the two 20-year-olds are in your suite and grandma is in a balcony solo.  Why can’t you switch the 20-year-olds and grandma?  Only reason I could think of would be pricing but you don’t seem to be concerned about that.  Is it because you want her in her own private cabin and not in your suite?

If that’s what you mean, she cannot join you unless she has a true full suite of her own.  Same way if the 20-year-olds are in a standard balcony they would lose their suite privileges.

The kids don't care about suite priv.- which are neglible on Freedom at the best! If they want a canape they can go to the Diamond Lounge. We were not able to book the 20 year olds into a balcony as they are only 20 and there are no adjoining available.

    Thank you!

  10. Been gone from Royal for 8 years or so. Booked on Freedom on port-intensive Southern. 2 BR suite holds 8. My mom has never cruised and took up our invitation to join us for her 90th birthday. There are no more suites available on our deck so we booked her into a balcony that is as close as we could get. If we switch mom to to 2br suite after we board and put a couple of our 20 yo in the balcony, will mom be able to join us for breakfast instead of the kids ? She doesn't care about any of the other amenities and will be using a wheelchair due to the size of the ship- her cane wont be enough for the long walks s she will have handicap seating at theater.

And before anyone flames, we arent trying to cheat. I offered to pay for her in the suite and in a balcony at the full single rate but RCL said no ( of course. ) The only other suites are on other decks and we want her close by. There are no available 2br on other decks, we got the last one .

Anyone have a suggestion OTHER THAN buy her anther suite- we would if one became available on our deck.

    Thanks

With NCL especially I don't know people who are happy they booked early.

I also looked at some other NCL cruises. I'm seeing OV rooms for $429 pp with UBP. How does NCL make money on that? Are they on the verge of going out of business?

Well, I ALWAYS book early and have never, ever, ever, ever had a price drop on NCL or on any other cruise line.

Our present bookings have gone up 1000 pp for one trip, 850 pp for the other ( averaging the 4 of us)- that is a LOT of money!

Summer suite prices are going crazy on NCL- even with the 3 incentives that would be included we have saved a bunch of money by booking 11 months and 9 months out.

We don't have the luxury of booking last minute. We need to know that we get the accommodations that fit our needs. And I doubt that NCL is on the verge of going out of business- not ALL rooms are 429pp! ( excuse me- cabins-not rooms!) Many more sources of revenue on board to make up for these loss-leaders.

  12. We are purposely booking OUT of the Haven now. Been in the H4 on GA and BA...all 3 trips found that there was NOTHING that we did in the Haven except eat breakfast and several dinners. Had friend in the aft as well as the forward PH- MUCH nicer than the Haven PH suites. In the Haven, the PH is not really a suite but a big room.

The 2BR suite is cramped compared to the jewel class. Our children (off to college!) are old enough now that we can be in separate suites outside of the Haven, and that is what we have booked.

I am not all that impressed with the Getaway Haven- have been in it twice and found it way too busy during the day for any enjoyment. Lots of loud adults. Some peace on the sundeck...same with BA-ESPECIALLY during the busy season!

    This is just our opinion.
