  1. Now that's even funnier. :p A lot of us are diamond and above and also have experienced many different voyages. So what! You could be pinnacle and that wouldn't matter either!

Oh, for heaven's sake! Her only point was that she was SURPRISED because she had sailed RC many times before and always had a fridge. The end.

  2. We were never offered an alternative to handing the extras over. The table they sent us to filled out labels with our name and cabin number, and told us we’d get them back the last afternoon. It was our first experience with Princess, so we didn’t want to argue.

Oh, that's a shame. I don't know how they got their policy so wrong but they really messed up. :(

  3. When we sailed Princess, we believed all the posts about unlimited wine being permitted, and brought 6 bottles for the two of us.

Four of which were promptly confiscated, and returned on our last afternoon. We ended up leaving two of them for our cabin steward.

That is odd. There are wine declaration tables when embarking Princess where you pay the $15.00 dollar corkage fee for each extra bottle of wine - they mark it down and it gets added to your shipboard expense account. They put a sticker on the bottles that you have paid for and you can then take those bottles to the dining rooms, etc. for consumption.

They shouldn't have confiscated your bottles - unless maybe you told them that you didn't want to pay the corkages fees?

  4. Uggggg....yeah bad mattresses are not fun. We had a truly horrific one on the Star Princess last year - two mattress toppers later only managed to make it somewhat bearable. But, I really don't understand why you wouldn't have mentioned it to your steward. If the bed was not as bad as Princess it's very possible that a topper would have helped a lot and saved you some pain and loss of sleep. I certainly would have thought it worth a try.

  5. I like the ability to try different things and to buy a fresh drink if one starts to melt down. I borrowed this calculator from someone on CC. I like it because it breaks it down very specifically. I'm a Cosmo drinker so it was important to see that specific drink.

The problem is those look like that are most likely Princess Cruises drink prices rather than Carnival drink prices. The names of some of the drinks give it away as well as the fact that they are using the International Cafe for their coffee drinks. I'm not sure if there is much difference in price but there might be some.

  6. What possible medical condition would someone have that would prevent them from not being able to wear anything but sweat pants if they are not wheelchair bound?

Large hernia could be one example. Some people who have had an ostomy can also find fitted pants a difficulty.

  7. I did try to research this but didn't have any luck. I booked an Oceanview for a NE/Canada cruise in September and stupidly did a No Refund price. All paid for, and now, after returning from a balcony cabin on the Anthem I thought it might be nice to switch to a balcony. My question - I know this would mean cancelling the cruise and rebooking (and eating the penalty of course). Is this something that I would contact Crown and Anchor for or would I just do the regular RCI folks?

Thanks! And I guess I'll skip the "No Refund" price from here on..!

I think the regular line would be able to help you just fine but I guess either would work. I might be wrong but it is my understanding that you won't be penalized if you are upgrading to a more expensive cabin within the same ship and sailing - doesn't hurt to ask anyway. :)

  8. Thanks for the quick replies. The reason I asked this question was because of this article found on Cruise Critic which implies there is one. It may be certain lines have numerical limit. articles.cfm

Yes, I know for sure that Princess and Carnival both have drink limits - 15 alcoholic drinks per day. Non-alcoholic drinks are unlimited and do not count against the drink maximum. :)

  9. Are most amenities available for the 1 day pacific coastals? Mainly interested if casino will be open when at sea. Thanks.

I've done 3 one-day Seattle/Vancouver cruises and the casino remained closed during all of them. Others have said that sometimes they open. I'd prepare for it to be closed and be happily surprised if it opens. All other shows, venues, etc. were in full swing all night including Skywalkers until very late. Really fun cruises. :)

  10. We took the Holland America version of this excursion in 2014. We boarded a bus at the ship, and drove into Rome. Our guide had to wait in a line for a few minutes at the Vatican Museum, but after a short time we went right into the Museum. We did a whirlwind tour of the Museum, then went into the Sistine Chapel where we had quite a bit of time to marvel at the ceiling, and then we went into St. Peter's. We had some time on our own in the Vatican City, and the bus took us to the Ostiense Train Station. Our guide arranged for cabs to meet the bus at the station, and the cab took us directly to our hotel. We thought it was a great way to end the cruise. We spent 4 more days in Rome, and had a cab take us to the airport.

    Hope this helps.

    Mike

Thank you so much! That tells me everything that I was wondering about. I really appreciate it and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. We'll have limited time in Rome and this sounds like a perfect way to make the most of Day 1. 😊

  11. Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had done this tour on a cruise ending in Rome. We are planning on staying in Rome for a day or two at the end our TA and would greatly appreciate some feedback into whether or not this tour is worthwhile. We like the idea of the transportation into Rome and visits to the Vatican before going to our hotel being taken care of all in one day. Do the tours of St. Peters and the Vatican Museums include front of the line type access into the museums?

  12. Why not stay on the Queen Mary? They also have AAA discounts, and you can tour the ship and eat there as well. And you are there when your ship comes in.

Yeah, we are splurging and staying there for a night before our cruise. I am really looking forward to it but the OP did request 'reasonable' and I'm not sure that the Queen Mary prices fit that bill. :)

  13. I'm not surprised. In their poll for naming the ship Sky Princess was pretty much the only decent name on the list. I think they really, really wanted to call it that while at the same time pretending they were leaving it up to us. Heh. :)

  14. I did not interpret abolishing forced traditional dining to mean get rid of it. I thought it meant, stop forcing traditional on everyone and have both fixed and anytime. I think it's a poorly worded survey personally and I totally agree, I think for cruise lines that still a large customer base that wants both fixed dining and anytime they should offer both.

I agree with your interpretation of the poll wording. He's asking to abolish the 'forced' traditional dining not abolish traditional dining. But it's overly dramatic and would have probably been less confusing to just say 'Allow Anytime Dining'.

  15. I was on the 4/21/17 Hawaii Cruise on the Star and unfortunately it was one of my least favorite cruises ever (68 cruises & counting).

The Star is OLD! Let me repeat the Star is OLD. The worst areas? The fitness center and Casino. The casino was such a sad, lifeless area. It's pretty large space, but for some reason all of the machines are pushed up against the walls. The ship obviously hasn't been touched for years. We had a mini-suite and it was old looking and in disrepair. The Solarium pool area was always cold - they never heated the space. So during the crossing from Vancouver to the Hawaiian Islands my guess the temperatures was in the low to mid 60's Fahrenheit. kids were in the pool but adults had winter down coats on!

The buffet area is annoying. They never improved on the original design of the space, so they use ropes to manage the traffic so you can only enter the main food area from one direction and exit from another.

You compare that ship with Celebrity's Millennium Class ships which were built the same time and you will see Princess really let that ship go.

Hi there! We were on the same cruise. :)

I agree that the Horizon Court set up is terrible! And the bed in our stateroom was worse than awful. Mega awful? LOL. Other than that I thought the ship was in pretty good shape - much better than the shape the Grand was in when we sailed on her in 2014.

The crew was amazing and the entertainment for the entire cruise was fantastic. I even enjoyed the cruise director and that is a position that is normally staffed by people that are much too over the top for my taste. I guess I need a few less bubbles and Andrew was great.

  16. It actually pleased me greatly because I was able to get better wine and bubbly in Vines (Silverado Cab and Mirabelle Brut) because the new package increases the drinks included to $12 from $10.

I agree. The new package at the old price seems like a pretty good deal to me. But then I don't buy bottles of wine when the glasses of wine are already included in my package, I don't drink cans of pop (or any pop), I am fine with small bottles of water as long as I can have as many as I want, and I would never reach the 15 a day drink maximum so I guess there is not much about the changes that upsets me. :D

  17. Ok I'm so confused [emoji15][emoji30]

    Coffee Card & AIBP

Vicky Roberts ..IDK. but I thought last Nov cruise we paid less i guess I was wrong , BUT I bought one coffee and 2 AIBP cards yesterday. However, I tried to find online when Princess raised the AIBP! As loyal guests you would think Princess would give notice? .... Guess what in Sept 2017 Princess raised the AIBP (booze package) without notice, oh well on me! $$. Well I found this online........... Maybe I didnt need to buy a Coffee Card. [emoji34] for my speciality coffee addiction ???

Below is from a travel article Sept 2017 "Princess Cruises Raises Price of Unlimited Beverage Package"

One of the biggest changes is that Princess Cruises will now limit the number of alcoholic drinks to 15 per day, sharing will not be allowed. In addition, guests who purchase the Premier Beverage Package will receive unlimited non-alcoholic beverages, including bottled water (500ml per serving), fountain sodas, fresh juices (when available), "specialty coffees" and teas, Frappes at Coffee & Cones and Red Bull energy drinks.

No, you won't need coffee cards with the drink package. The full drink package has always included coffees and water. Are you able to cancel the coffee card order and get your money back?

  18. I just talked to my TA and she said you will be charged $15 a bottle when you bring it on, that is not a corking fee, and another $15 if you bring the bottle to the table. You can have the wine in your room and bring it to the table in a glass. It wouldn't be a deal if you have to pay $30 per bottle to bring it to your table.

That is incorrect. They will let you bring on 1 bottle free for each person. Then you only need to pay the $15.00 corkage fee once (they will charge you for it when you bring it on) for any extra bottles of wine. They will mark each bottle that the corkage fee has been paid and you can take it to the restaurant to enjoy.

HOWEVER, (and this is probably where you got mixed messages) if you take the free bottles of wine that are not marked to the dining room you will be charged a $15.00 corkage fee for it at that time. Just make sure you are taking the paid for bottles to the dining room and consuming the free bottles in your statement (or pouring it in your statement and taking the glass with you around the ship) and everything will be fine. :)

  19. If you are EArly Saver, then don't pay off the cruise yet. If the price drops, you will get a reduction to your fare. If you've already paid it all off, then you will get onboard credit. While OBC is nice, I'd rather truly "save" money with a reduction.

    CeleBrat

Gotcha! That is definitely something to think about. I assumed any price drop would be reimbursed back to your credit card and didn't think about it being applied as onboard credit. Although I'm sure I'll be spending money on the cruise anyway and it's not as if I've ever had any difficulty blowing through shipboard credit before. LOL!

  20. Yes, this is correct. UNLESS you book Early Saver rate. If you book ES and cancel before final payment date, you lose 50.00 per person and the rest of the deposit they put toward a future cruise credit that has to be used within 24 months. Ive generally booked ES and only when they are running the 50.00 deposit special. That way if worse comes to worse and I have to cancel, Im only out 100.00. If you have sailed Carnival before, there is a past guest rate that is generally only about 20.00 more per person and there basically are no restrictions. Next cruise I will book the Past Guest rate.

If he wants to pay it off early, pay it off early! The only "surprises" come with ES rate and Ive explained that above :)

Perfect! Thanks so much. We are booked under the Early Saver and I completely understand the restrictions on the deposit for that. First Carnival cruise but I am looking forward to being a past guest and being able to use that rate instead. :)
