  1. No ncl has delicious pretzel rolls... Now for people like me who can't jump on a ship next week you can still get your fix

I will be jumping on a ship next week. Please, do tell where these rolls can be found. Buffet or restaurant?

  2.

Another option could be a disabled inside but NCL has the right to move you when a disabled person makes a booking.

But as others stated, you will be fine, you're on a cruise ship. :D

Please don't do this. As a person with a disability, it's so difficult to get accessible space for those of us who really need and just aren't looking for extra room. It's like using an accessible parking space because it's raining and you don't want to get wet.

  3. When I made our reservation we were told that Illusionarium was included on embarkation night. Now with all sorts of changes going on, would like to know whether this is still in effect.

As you can see by sig line, we board on the 23rd.

It's included through July 1, so it's included in our cruise (I'll be on her with you).

  4. Hi Laura,

Does it change from state to state?

This is something that I can't get my head around knowing that some states have different laws from others in the same country.

    Pete

ADA doesn't change from state to state, but some states have additional laws on their books.

  5. Hi All,

This thread has really sparked my interest and I would love to definitively know the answer.

Personally I can't see that there would be any difference if a foreign national were to instigate legal proceedings in the USA for some form of disability discrimination, I say this on the basis that laws usually apply to an individual in that country, it doesn't matter what their nationality is eg. if I as a brit went to the USA and stole something I would expect to be dealt with via the legal system for theft, I would not have the excuse of "I'm a foreign national, your laws don't apply to me"

    Pete

It is an interesting topic. As far as anyone running a business in the Us, they are required to follow the law. I looked up a little info and found division on whether those residing outside of the US are protected by the law enough to file suit if a business does not follow the ADA. It's a deep topic because the law has undergone revisions and I am not a lawyer. I have assisted only citizens with filing complaints through the Justice Dept.

  6. Does the ADA apply to everyone in the country? I would presume it does, but the fact it specifically says "Americans" makes me wonder whether foreign tourists are somehow excluded.

I worked in disability advocacy for five years. The ADA protects the rights of Americans with disabilities to have equal access. Any visitor benefits from Accessibilty. American citizens can file suit if the laws are not followed by cities and businesses, but I don't know whether foreign visitors can.

  8. Silly question, possibly prompted by the fact that I should be writing an essay. 81 days until my first ever cruise & I just can't wait :-). I'm already ordering my cruise essentials (new camera lens, posh frock, sparkly jewellery). How long before departure do you start packing? I'm fighting the urge to get the cases down from the attic but telling myself that any more than 1 month in advance snacks of childlike enthusiasm! Is everyone else more sensible than me? I suspect you are!

    Debbie

I am right there with you. We have 45 days until our cruise. I've wanted to go on a cruise since I was 17. I could burst with excitement.

  9. I'm leaving on my first cruise this coming Sunday on Norwegian. I've heard that if you board with a debit card to set up your on board account they will put a hold on it. Can you set a limit to hold, is it a dollar amount per person? We were thinking about getting a prepaid credit card but was told prepaid cards aren't accepted. I don't mind using cash to set up the on board account, but my wife is leery of this. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can prepay your on board account via NCL.com. I would recommend doing that and then you can bring cash to add to it, if needed. Otherwise, use a credit card. I know some people do not believe in credit cards. I have done Dave Ramsey and understand, but some of his advice isn't always practical.

  10. Thanks everyone. My pill boxes don't seem large enough to put much in them. I have pouches similar but they aren't clear. That is why I don't like mine. I really like those. I need to go shopping.

I have some real chunky jewelry that I need to protect from being pinched, etc.

I also have to put the boxes on their side to put in my purse - one time they weren't completley snapped - thank goodness I had them in zip lock bags. I don't trust the TSA people when they go through my bags. I've seen them dump a lady's purse out.

I saw a great idea on Pinterest to sandwich your necklaces between two layers of Glad Press n Seal. I'm going to try it.

  11.

The biggest problem with using a PCC is that s/he is the only person who can manipulate your reservation once s/he books it. So, don't put yourself in that position and everything should be convenient for you.

I didn't have that experience. This morning I called to upgrade to a balcony because the price dropped. My PCC was out of the office, I assume since it's the weekend, and another PCC assisted me.

  12. Yes, we can be dealing with health, mobility issues.

I have health and mobility issues. I booked my upcoming cruise to fulfill a 25 year dream. This trip is a huge stretch for us because of how tight medical expenses make our budget. I am very wary now of what my trip will be like and what other added fees will come in the next weeks. I am regretting my choice of NCL. My brother is a regular on RCCL and I should have gone with his recommendation.

I was looking forward to free room service and not having to navigate crowds when I try to loosen up for the day. My autoimmune disease makes mornings hard and having breakfast in my cabin and at my pace would make things easier for me.

  13. Hi Laura,

We are on the same cruise and I came across your post. I noticed that NCL is not offering the Blue Lagoon Beach Break excursion anymore now that they don't get to the port until 12. So are you booking directly through Blue Lagoon? I saw the following on the Blue Lagoon website:

    "Our boats depart for Blue Lagoon Island at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Our boats depart from Blue Lagoon Island at: 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m."

So you can't depart until 1:30 (get there by 2:30?) and you have to leave the island by 4!

    Charlene

I booked it through NCL, so I didn't think it would be much of a change. I suppose I ought to check MyNCL and see.

I checked and it still says it's a five hour excursion. I may ask on the NCL board to see if anyone has used this since the time change.

  14. I have two suggestions: one I've tried, and one I'm going to try.

These are very lightweight, roomy, and might eliminate any rubbing under loose capris or skirts:

    http://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Choice-Womens-3-pack-cotton/dp/B004I7BO1U/ref=cts_ap_2_fbt

I am new here. I use the above under skirts and love them. Let's just say that I've not had a thigh gap since puberty hit and these prevent chafing. I need to get more as I love to wear skirts in the summer.

  15. Thanks. My son isn't able to swallow pills yet, so we do his medicine with applesauce. I was just trying to avoid another thing we need to bring!

Pudding, yogurt, even ice cream work for this purpose, too. I'd probably just bring along a pack of the lunch size applesauce servings. You can open it, take a spoonful out, close the foil around the top, and put it in the room fridge.

  16. I am confused. We chose the free UDP promo for Getaway next year and will eat at a speciality restaurant each night. Am I expected to tip 18% each night?

I'd like to know this, too. In looking at the new information on the website, the gratuity is added to the purchase price of UDP. Am I correct to assume that if you have UDP from the promo, that the 18% gratuity is also included and we will not be billed extra?

  17. Where are there any extra charges added on for a dessert in a specialty restaurant or a cup of coffee in the MDR?. A regular coffee in the MDRs are free unless you are ordering an expresso type drink. Desserts in the specialties are free as well and you can order additional appys, sides and desserts without generating an additional charge. Just don't order an extra entree and stay away from the up charge items like lobster.

I thought up charge entrees were included with UPD?

  18. The last couple of cruises, because I have dyscalculia (think dyslexia, but with numbers/math) I've decorated the door of our cabin so I can find it without wandering around the hallways going, "Wait..was it 6412 or 6214? Or 6142? ****!" because I can't remember what the number of our cabin is. So I know that part wouldn't be too hard as long as he can remember which deck our cabin is on.

That's what DH is afraid of...DS won't be with his usual aides and the kids at school, some of whom he's known since preK (which includes the twin girls who declared themselves his "girlfriends" two years ago in third grade:eek::D). He's afraid it'll be too tough for him to socialize with kids he doesn't know.

I don't have a child with autism, but have worked for 20 years with people who do. I think that if he wants to try it, then go for it. Tour the area on the first day so that he can become acquainted with it, talk to the staff, and see if your son wants to try. In my experience, parents tend to hold their kids back (whether they have a disability or not) more so than the kids (I have four, one with a serious auto-immune disease and am guilty of wanting to protect her). Imagine how much even a small success can help him when it comes to branching out.

  19. I still have eight months until the cruise so hopefully we can get a larger cabin - either accessible or just bigger. I can always fold down my Travelscoot but it's a little awkward to do it in the narrow hallway of a ship. Hoping not to have to do that every time I want to use it.

Have you contacted the cruise line? When I spoke with NCL to book a cabin with an accessible bath, they upgraded me from inside to ocean view since the inside accessible cabins were booked.
