  1. Excellent review!! Thanks for sharing with us!!

I absolutely loved the blog. I enjoyed every word and every picture. You did a fantastic job Mongee. I really appreciated the amount of research and planning that went into your trip. I learned a lot for my upcoming cruise in 220something days . Reading your blog helped pass the time though! Thank You!

    Thank you!

The last sections of the blog are grey and I cant access them. Is that because they are not written yet?

Yes, the ones in grey are still to be written. I am currently working on the next one, have just uploaded the photos to Flickr and will hopefully get the post up tonight (it's 6.30am Friday where I am).

    PS - it's about Molokini

  2. Hi there,

Thanks for the great review. I just started reading your blog, and I think I may be reading for awhile! We are headed to Hawaii in September 2017 from Vancouver. I am a bit nervous about traveling across the Pacific! What hotel did you stay at in Honolulu? I didn't come across the name?

    Thank you!

    Angela

Hi Angela. Thanks for reading! We stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel in an ocean front room. It's not a flash hotel, probably three star, but it was perfectly fine for us and it made it affordable to have the ocean front room. The room was large, with two double beds, fridge, microwave and dressing table area. The best part though was the fantastic view I woke up to every morning. If I am ever lucky enough to go back I think I would stay there again.

  3. I've greatly enjoyed your blog about your Hawaii adventure...great itinerary, photos & narrative. :)

If possible, you might want to change the name of the town during your drive around the north end of Maui. Honokohau is a small area on Honokohau Bay & is north of Honolua Bay. The actual name of the town you described is Kahakuloa where Lorraine Shave Ice is located on Kahakuloa Bay.

Iao Valley located in west Maui's Pu'u Kukui mountains has an average yearly recorded rainfall of 350" & is only second to Kauai's Mt Waialeale with 450". They say that 5,000' Pu'u Kukui at one time was taller than 10,000' Haleakala and that erosion caused by so much rainfall formed the isthmus connecting the 2 mountain peaks.

Thanks Astro. When I was writing it I was unsure which name it was and was debating between the two so I consulted Google and Google maps and decided on the wrong name. I am at work at the moment and on my phone so will correct it later tonight.

Thanks everybody for reading and your positive comments. My husband mocks me for the amount of photos I use but I find it really hard to cull them. I took over 5,000 photos during our time in Hawaii so ....

  4. Well THAT was fun! Thank you. I just stumbled across this and I want to see more!!!

I'm glad you stumbled across this and that you're enjoying it :) Have you read all of them already? Coming up soon will be our week in Maui.

I hope everybody who is reading is enjoying my little Hawaii blog.

  5. We did the POA cruise in May and the Norwegian's Night Out was on Monday night. You don't have to get really formal, just nice, not casual, and there were formal photos in the atrium from 5.00. There was also photos with the captain at the atrium from 7.45 to 8.15pm. We also took the opportunity to have dinner in the Liberty Dining Room as that is the formal main dining room and this would be the only night we would be dressed nice.

  6. Sorry - another question - I am just reading the last of the reports - I will be sorry when its finished -

You said you booked transport from ship to airport with Roberts - did you do this before the cruise?

Do you have the contact details I think we may have to do something similar - we are flying from Honolulu to Vegas - I think the flight is only about 2ish - so not sure how we will work this but if we have a contact no it will help.

    thanks again

    H

Hi Helen. Yes I booked the transport online before I left home.

I did it through the Roberts shore excursion site. You pick your cruise by clicking on the "not your cruise?" link, then click on the transportation tab, then click on book now where it says pier to HNL.

Their contact details are on this page

Thanks for reading my reports, you are encouraging me to keep going :)

  7. Thank you. I think deck 6 is the best view, no restrictions for viewing and we were near where the Cadillac Diner is, mid ship. The best viewing is on the left had side, sailing closer to the coast. The ship turns around and comes back down but a bit further away and then diverts off towards Oahu.

  8. I chose not to go with Blue Hawaiian for several reasons - you are on the helicopter with other people not in your party, you are not guaranteed a window seat and you can't fly doors off. As I am overweight I was concerned that I would be placed in the middle of the chopper for balance. I also wanted doors off for better views and no reflections in my photos. We were on a smaller helicopter that held a maximum of three passengers which was perfect for us. They don't pick up at the port but check in as a short distance away, there is also a shuttle from the port to the shops where the check in is. They also have fantastic reviews on trip advisor. Something to consider if you want a more private experience.

  9. There are two small shopping centres across the road from each other with a 10 minute walk from the dock. There are also regular free shuttles going to each shops, the pub is on the same side of the road as the Anchor Cove shops and right across from the Harbor Mall shops. The gardens inside the Marriott are really nice and the hotel is right on the beach, the hotel also has a Duke's so you could have some Hula Pie. We had Hula Pie at Duke's in Waikiki but anytime is the right time for Hula Pie!

  10. thanks - going to have a look at that then - looks like you had a good trip round - where did you have lunch?

    Any other tips?

    H

Lunch wasn't included but he took us to this place in Waimea where we could buy lunch and it was very good, not a restaurant, more a cafe or takeaway style but better than takeaway food and very reasonably priced - L & L Hawaiian BBQ.

  11. I am thoroughly enjoying your blog. Your photos are amazing and show such great detail. I was looking for some insight into cruising Hawaii and you have definitely provided it.

    Thanks so much!

Thank you! I read so many reviews on here when I was planning and researching for our trip and every one of them helped me in some way.
