Five and a half hours at airport is a bit much.  However we got to that airport 3  hours before our flight and it was so packed and loooong lines for check in and security that we barely made our flight - and our flight was delayed by a half hour.

Straight off the ship at 5:30am with our luggage. Monday 10 July we got to the airport in 35 mins. Check in took 20 minutes. Security 5 minutes. Passport control less than 2 minutes  our flight was at 9:00;am. Flight left on time.

  2. We have just come back from a cruise with Viking and found the food in WC , Manfredis ,the pool bar and the restaurant to be somewhat tasteless  except for perhaps one night in the restaurant. Our meal in Manfredis was absolutely woeful to the extent that we complained and spoke to the chef as well. If I was in a restaurant that served up a meal like that I would not have paid for it. The meal was lamb cutlets on a bed of white bean mash.
thin cutlets, tough and chewy and all you could taste was the bean mash.
The ship was outstanding but staff, service and food well below a cruise line that is supposed to be a premier line. Entertainment was very good. But Viking cruises, not for us again!

Also depends on which country you purchased your tickets.  In Australia you lose your entire deposit if you cancel 121 days or more prior to departure.  The following is the cancellation schedule for a 7 night cruise which required a deposit of AUD1,000 per person.

    image.png.9c0ef7449c1f2eb4ea94ecacd9a2a893.png

And if you want to move it to another cruise you have to pay another $1000 deposit per person. They won’t use the previous deposit of $1000 per person as  a deposit on another cruise.

  4. Can someone enlighten me on how to add your credit card details when choosing an excursion. I’ve selected excursions but can’t see where to pay! I’ve been through all the guest documents etc and can’t find anything. I am at a loss with this whole system. Seasoned cruising but first time with Viking has me stumped!

That was our stop as well.

Red X marks bus stop #8. You can even see the bus stopped in the driveway.:

And here is where it stops at the port (Skarfabakki). The building marked 'Cruise terminal' was a retail location when we were there two years ago. The private buses pull up in this parking lot. Viking's buses will be elsewhere. I believe that this is the bus stop no matter which berth the ship is assigned -- but you you might want to double check that with the folks at GrayLine. The red line is the path you will probably take off the pier and to the bus.:

Thanks for this - think it was Gray Line I contacted on FB but no response. When you say it’s only part of the Golden Circle can you expand - I thought all the Golden Circle tours were the same and took about 8 hours (excluding Blue Lagoon)?

    Sorry stand corrected on that.

Thank you Peregrina - I will try & email them again - I’d previously tried them through Messenger & just don’t think it got through! I would have been prepared to go with the Viking tour, even at the extra price, but being in a DV cabin, think they may be be fully booked by the time we’re allowed to get on and to book tours!

I read a post by Peregrina previously and looked into Grayline. Thanks Peregrina. Grayline have been most helpful. The tour cost is 126Eur for two with pickup and drop off. We are being picked up at Hallgrímskirkja Church. I would definitely email them. We had a response back the next morning.

  7. June last year -  Global Marine Travel LLC (GMT) and Azamara entered into a multi-year agreement to provide outsourced travel management services to Azamara for their passenger Air/Sea program.

Azamara, the upmarket cruise line and leader in Destination Immersion® experiences, has expanded its existing partnership with V.Group to provide guest and corporate travel services to the Miami based cruise line.

In addition to managing the Azamara fleet through V.Ships Leisure and delivering hotel procurement and logistics with Oceanic, GMT will provide outsourced travel services to Azamara passengers.

Things are changing from March 2023

    An Exciting Update to Azamara.com

The New Year is a time for changes and self-improvement, and Azamara is no exception. That is why we are excited to announce new and improved upgrades to the Azamara website to integrate it with our new reservation platform, becoming a one-stop-shop for booking cruises, shore excursions, pre- and post-land programs, onboard packages, and other add-ons, creating a seamless experience for all guests. In addition to a new look and feel, we will have several new features. Once these features are live on our website, you will receive an email with additional information. Here is what you need to know and do to be prepared for the upcoming weeks:

March 16 - 20: While we transition to our new booking system, there will be a blackout period where online reservations cannot be made. During this short window, you'll still be able to contact our call center to create or modify any bookings.

March 20: Azamara.com relaunches! To access your account on Azamara.com, you will need to reset a new password on or after March 20th.

In the upcoming weeks, we will send loyalty members further instructions on what to expect once Azamara.com re-launches. Our main priority is supporting members as they navigate these changes to our website, and as such, we will continue to reach out via email with further updates as we approach our launch date. This is a unique and exciting moment for all of us as we transition into an independent company, and we appreciate your continued support.

  8. First time Viking this year. Reading all the comments on excursions and dining not available to DV guests makes me wonder what we have let ourselves in for. It all sounds very elitist. Excursions should be open to everyone who has paid.  If you don’t want to do an excursion, so be it but there should be some fairness to everyone. Maybe this will be our one and only cruise with them, other cruise lines at least give you the opportunity. Specialty restaurants do nothing for me but if Viking “guarantee” one night per cruise and they can’t deliver, sounds a bit like false advertising to me.

If you have an iPad or iPhone, you can easily create a.PDF of the webpage with your booked or past voyages and store it in Books (rather than a screenshot). Just press the Share button (square with an up arrow at the top) then select the Books app (you may need to press the square with three dots labeled More to see the Books app).

    Thanks for that tip. Done!

We did this itinerary with Viking in 2021 -- also on July 3rd -- and loved it. Just reading this thread makes me want to do it again -- just to see what we missed in each of the ports. Don't miss the Skalanes Nature Reserve!

Contact the folks at TellUs@vikingcruises.com. Explain what information you are trying to get and ask them to send you a copy of your Guest Statement (not everyone can access it via MVJ -- or at least I've never been able to). They can also confirm for you the earliest time you can book a departure from KEF.

Personally, I suggest that you plan to arrive a few days ahead to explore the city (or recover from jetlag) and stay a few more to see some of the beautiful places that Viking does not include.

I also suggest that you join the roll call for your sailing. It looks a little quiet now but it will pick up as departure day approaches. Viking Star - July 3, 2023 - Reykjavik to Reykjavik (Iceland's Natural Beauty)

Thank you. We are arriving a couple of days before but do need  to leave on the 10th to Uk.

will look at the roll call for our cruise.

Also look closely at that invoice as it may indicate how early you can book your return flight.  On our 2021 cruise we could not book a flight before 10 am.  Reason is that Viking (or anyone else)  could not get you to the airport in time.  It's one hour to the airport and you should be at the airport 3 hours before your flight.  We were there twice 2.5 hours before our flight.  The first time we barely made it to the gate.  The second time we would have missed the flight if it was not held.  One flight was in the AM and the other time it was the PM with no difference.

Thank you. Mmm we are trying to depart 0845. Can I ask why you have to be at the airport 3 hrs before flights? Is it because of the amount of people at the airport?  If this is the case we’re definitely not going to make an early flight. Our invoice says no flights earlier than 9:00am.

  12. We are first time sailing with Viking (Azamara is our favoured cruise line)

on Viking Star on 3 July 2023 Reykjavik to Reykjavik returning on 10 July

(7 days). Viking have given us no arrival and departure times for any port on is itinerary.
We are trying to find out the arrival and departure times. Mainly the arrival time on 10 July to try and plan our flights out of Reykjavik to Uk

Does anybody have any ideas of where we can find out this information?. Thanks in advance.

Not seen any reports of this, Azamara Quest has been in Sydney as scheduled for the last two nights.  Will be interested to hear though of evidence of more issues on other vessels as it sure puts sailing in this part of the world into a new risk bucket for the upcoming season

I know Azamara Quest had its hull cleaned back in October. We were on the ship when the captain said this was routine for ships sailing to NZ and Australia. It did bring up another problem (nothing to do with biofouling) that delayed our departure from Crete.

There are no requirements for fully vaccinated people traveling between the Uk and Spain

We are travelling to the UK (from Australia) at end of August and then from the UK in September to join Quest in Barcelona on 17th. We are both vaccinated and boosted and I believe we have to complete the SpTH form to enter Spain. Are there no requirements for UK citizens to complete the form if travelling from the UK?

Hi, does anyone know what is going on with Azamara bookings?

We booked a cruise with them many months ago which sets sail in October. We have had great difficulty in making the final payment, you cannot make a payment online so have call. We made 22 phone calls to make the payment, spending over 6 hours on hold until we finally got to speak to someone to take the payment. We made the final payment over a week ago and we still haven't received a receipt and the account has not been updated so we still can't Check In to finalise excursions etc.

We have sent a number emails but none are replied so we don’t know how to move this forward.

It’s all quite disconcerting and worrying, will the flights be organised, will the ship be expecting us?

Has anyone else had similar issues with Azamara?

We are cruising in September and have been told that check in won’t open until 30 days out.

Our cruise has been very close to normal. Great White Night party last night with a buffet and dancing. Less than 1% wore a mask and it was refreshing to see most of the crew without a mask including the captain.

The only hassle that reminded me about the restrictions was having to have the server select one Spanish cheese at a time in the buffet. I look forward to selecting my own food soon just like the ice cream station!

COVID will get you sooner or later. Hopefully you won’t be seriously affected and hopefully you don’t get it before you go home.
After 4 vaccinations, we still got COVID and are still suffering symptoms  of long COVID weeks later.
I’m happy for the servers to serve me, there’s always too much waste with buffets, people’s  eyes are much bigger than bellies and some don’t have the same hygiene expectations.

    AZAMARA EXTENDS GLOBAL CRUISING SUSPENSION

As the world continues to confront the many challenges resulting from COVID-19, our primary goal continues to be a healthy return to service for our guests, crew and the communities we visit. While we do see cruising is slowly starting up again, there is still uncertainty surrounding the resumption of cruise operations globally.

We’ve made the difficult decision to replace many sailings between September 2021 – May 2022 due to the ongoing complexities of cruise operations in Latin America and Australia. In addition, the conditions in certain parts of the Middle East and Western Africa are not conducive to cruise operations leaving us no choice but to cancel Azamara Pursuit voyages until January 2022. We’re truly sorry for this inconvenience and are grateful for you and your clients patience through this pandemic.

We’re excited to resume sailing again starting with Azamara Quest in Greece as planned starting August 28th, 2021. Shortly after Azamara Quest completes her Mediterranean season, she will head to the Caribbean as scheduled for her three back-to-back Caribbean sailings, followed by a new selection of 2022 Caribbean sailings. The Azamara Journey will begin her Mediterranean season on October 13, 2021, as expected and will remain there through the Winter with a new selection of sailings to the Canary Islands, Greece and more. We are still finalizing these new itineraries, but we expect them to be available for sale in the coming weeks.

We’re counting down the days until we resume sailing this summer and remain optimistic that with each day that passes, we’re another day closer to less uncertainty and more explorations. Through our Explore Well at Sea program, we have developed advanced screening protocols, more rigorous sanitation measures, and innovative medical services — to ensure a care-free Azamara experience.
