  1. Spend the last 45 minutes on the phone with NCL.

And they confirmed that even if I bought the OBC before January 21st 2016 the maximum amount is 1000$

So they are refunding it today to my cc. Should be on my account by 5-7 business days.

My advice? Don't wait until they call you, call them and get YOUR money back!!!:)

just did the same thing. was on hold for 30 min. we originally bought $2000. they will refund the other $1000 to my cc in 5-7 business days. lady I spoke to didn't even know about the limit. She had to talk to her supervisor. said I was the only one who called about it.

  2. for those canadians who had this happen to them, did they automatically refund your credit card? We too bought obc in the excess of $1000 in the hopes of using them for excursions, specialty dining, drinks, bingo, etc. although it's disappointing that there is a limit in the obc that you can purchase, we have no problems getting back the extra $$ refunded in the credit card. As long as they refund our money back. We don't want to have to call ncl and be on hold and talk to multiple people. Hope it's just as easy as putting the credit back where it belongs.

  3. We just returned from 7 nights on the getaway. I was concerned that our purchased OBC would be returned but it wasn't. $4500 (1.19 rate)

Maybe those that got a really good rate - par/7%/8%/11% are the ones that are limited or having it cancelled?[/QUOT

did you use the casino to cash out some of that obc? did you have any problems?

  4. dh and I plan on dining at moderno. I would like to make reservations for my family of 4, but the kids will just eat off the kids menu. my understanding is that the kids eat free off the kids menu. when making reservations online, do I just reserve 2 seats even though we will need a table for 4? If I reserve 4 the cart lists 4 people that I have to pay for.

  5. Just curious....I only discovered last year that NCL has these great rates for Canadians.....do other cruise lines have reduced exchange rates for Canadians for cruise fares, and allow the pre-purchase of OBC, shore excursions and prepaid service charges at the same reduced rate?

We've only done dcl, but no, they don't have reduced rates for cdns nor do they allow the prepurchase of obc. sometimes they do have specials for cdn. We actually started cruising with them when they had the "20% off for canadians rate".

  6. We have not received this call and cruise in 30 days. How can you tell if you are on the same account? All these inconsistent rules are ridiculous. This is my first time sailing with NCL and I have to say I am not all that eager to cruise with them again. I understand changing a policy but it should be done in a transparent and consistent way.

We just bought $2000 in obc last week. did it online and even got the amenity invoice to prove it. I am nervous though about getting that phone call. this is also our first time with ncl and there has been numerous changes since we booked 11 mos ago. not that eager to cruise with them again either.if they did change the rules about the max amount of obc, then let the guests know ahead of time instead of calling them a few days before the cruise.

  7. so excited for our getaway cruise next month. I was reading a review on the escape and the family had to bring their own bed rail. Do they have bed rails for the top and bottom bunk? We are cruising with a 5 and 6 yr old who do gymnastics in their sleep. tia!

  8. We are cruising next month on the getaway. we booked last year during the 3-8 pax free as well as other "free" promotions. We chose the prepaid service charges since we (parents) don't drink that much. I called ncl to prepay the kids' dsc and was told that I didn't have to, it didn't show up on their system. I then emailed ncl to get a copy of the amenity invoice and it has dh and I listed as having the dsc prepaid. my question is, so what happened to the kids dsc? do I not have to pay for it b/c they were free to begin with? just trying to prepay everything before we board since we booked in cdn funds. if i have to pay onboard, the dsc for 2 kids is much higher in us funds.

  9. We had the same problem with our booking for the last cruise; it was no problem getting on the boat. I did carry a 1c piece just in case!!

I would check with NCL and get the OK in writing.

    Mike

thanks! i did call ncl and the lady i spoke to said not to worry about it. the system won't even let them remove the penny or pay it.

  10. Hello All

Like many fellow Canadians I have taken advantage of booking OBC at $111.11 CAD exchange rate and I'm a few days away from sailing. Over the past few months I have purchased a few thousand dollars worth of OBC only to find out that NCL has cancelled and refunded all my purchases without any notification even though I haven't seen the refund posted on my cc . The only reason I found out was because I called to get a emailed confirmation of my purchases to have written confirmation once on board just in case something went wrong. I don't like travelling with a lot cash so I was hoping to use my credit for booking excursions, gambling, spa services, tips plus whatever else may pop up. Now without any OBC my spending will drop. Basically this has ruined and left a sour taste for my family holiday trip even before we set sail.

I was told today that they would allow a maximum of $1000 per cabin to be purchased even though they cancelled all of mine. If I want more they said to purchase it on board.

I recommend all Canadians who purchased OBC contact NCL and make sure the same thing hasn't happened to you.

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

this would be enough to ruin my cruise. i can't believe NCL is doing this. i understand that our dollar is low and they're probably "catching on". in this case though they should raise the max that you can purchase depending on how many people in the cabin. $1000 is not enough for 4 people since a good chunk of that will go to the dsc. oue upcoming getaway cruise is our first non dcl cruise and my family was apprehensive to begin with. now with this news i feel like we should have stuck to what we know. there's been so many changes since we booked in feb and we were fine with the changes. but the obc i am not happy with. with all the extra charges on board we'll probably end up spending as much as a disney cruise! and we decided to try NCL in the hopes of saving $$$

  11. I think it maxed me out at $1500. I haven't tried again to purchase. I had already purchased $550 few months ago (Jan 3, 2016 cruise), tried for another 15X100 - fail. Tried 1X50 + 14X100 (1450), it put the $50 thru and failed on the 14X100. Tried again for just 10X100 and was successful. So I got $1500.

I plan to cash out to have money for ports, in addition to using for Onboard purchases. (I have 1.11 exchange rate)

As others have recommended; I asked for a copy of the amenities invoice. All my OBC is on there, some says in Cabin on Day 2. So I know if it doesn't all show up Day 1 I shouldn't worry :)

did you call in to buy your obc? is that how you got the invoice?
