  1. I think everyone sees things differently. I personally would not begrudge rccl for refunding or crediting a cruise for someone who becomes ill with a life threatening disease and is unable to cruise, whether I know that person or not. Hopefully there are not that many people that have a reoccurrence of cancer right before cruising that would “open the flood gates”. But that’s my opinion, and does not need to be anybody’s else.
  2. Frankly, even prior to this, RCCL had begun to lose its luster for me (after 20+ cruises) but that’s a subject for a different thread.
  3. Wow, you certainly had your share of bad luck. I hope everyone is on the mend. From all the posts on this thread, it’s unlikely that she will get any type of refund/ future credit from RCCL abut I’ll adviser her to call asap to see what they say and to also contact her credit card company to see if it provides some travel insurance. I hadn’t thought of that and I’m sure she hasn’t, so thank you again to the poster that made that suggestion.
  4. Some of it does help. I’ll advise them both to check their credit cards to see if there is any coverage. The well wishes from some posters also help. The young couple who got the cruise together for a special event had only cruised twice before and probably didn’t think of it. The couple told everyone to contact the group booking agent at rccl to book their rooms. I don’t know what the booking agent said, if anything, about travel insurance, since I booked independently. Many, many people have posted that the insurance should have been purchased. Obviously if it had been, she would not be in this situation. But the references to owhat should’ve been done in the past is not really helpful going forward.
  5. Oh I thought they were still offering to reschedule cruises for people with Covid. That has changed?
  6. What does the cruise line do if someone shows up at the port reporting cold symptoms or stomach upset? Are they allowed to cruise? If not, are they given future cruise credit even if they did not get the insurance? Does anyone know? I understand that the cruise line should not be on the hook for someone who has a flu or an unfortunate fracture and does not feel well enough to cruise. But I do think that is a different situation from someone who has a sudden re occurrence of cancer it is a medical necessity to receive chemotherapy/ radiation during the cruising period. Certainly the ship can’t provide it for her. No, she didn’t think to get the insurance, but should her result be different from someone who catches Covid then gets a refund or future cruise credit?
  7. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I’m definitely taking your advice
  8. I’m sorry that your wife is experiencing difficulties. I’m very happy to see that your deposits were refunded. Best wishes for her recovery
  9. I posed this question with the hopes of getting some input from people that had a similar experience, As an experienced cruiser and traveler I’m well aware that they should have opted for the insurance. They are not experienced. They made the booking themselves on the telephone with the group booking agent so I don’t know what, if anything, was discussed about trip insurance. Regardless, the insurance was not purchased. No need for a lecture on what should have been done, when it’s too late to do anything about it. I’m also not “blaming RCI” for anything. I however do expect that a business that I have been loyal to for many years would show some compassion when someone in my group is in a difficult situation. if not, lesson learned. to the few responses that wished the ill passenger well, thank you
  10. Thank you for your kind words. As I stated in my original post, they are not experienced cruisers, or travelers for that matter so it didn’t occur to them to get the insurance. I understand that the cruise line is a business but it know that other businesses such as the airlines will make accommodations under certain conditions. If they need to cancel I’m sure RCCl will not incur that much of a loss. They will potentially book her cabin directly or through Royal Up. They will save on the food she is not eating, so I don’t think it would be unreasonable if they issued a partial refund or future credit. But it is what it is. She is awaiting test results this week, and Gid forbid it’s bad news, we will reach out to Rccl immediately
  11. Wow that is awful. I’m sorry all of that happened to you. It is terrible that they would not issue at least a credit for a future cruise, just as a matter of good will. I’m sure my group member and her son wish they had gotten the insurance but this would be only her second cruise and his first. It just didn’t occur to them. I know the rules are the rules, but there should be some compassion for someone seriously ill. I myself am Diamond Plus, but if they do not offer them some type of an accommodation under the circumstances I’m not sure how “loyal to Royal” I’ll be in the future. As it is, the customer service for the group booking had been a nightmare. This would be the final straw. Hopefully I’m worried about nothing. She is awaiting some tests results this week and im praying that she be well enough to travel. If she isn’t hopefully RCCL will issue at least a partial refund or credit. I guess we will see…
  12. We are a group of 24, booked through the group booking department so everyone paid in full by the final payment date of 2/6/2023. The sailing itself is 5/7/2023, so about 50 days out. A member of our group has a number of health problems as a result of battling a very serious disease. Her son is also on the sailing but in a separate cabin. They do not have travel insurance. At the time that they booked she was feeling ok, but since then has suffered a relapse. If she is not well enough to travel and has a doctor’s note to that effect, will RCCL issue a refund or at least a credit toward a future cruise date? How about for the adult son? He is her caretaker and one of the reasons he booked the trip was to help her during the sailing. Anyone with any insight on this? Thank you
  13. Thank you for your response and observation. I won’t stress about making up there. 😊
  14. We will be sailing on the Oasis on 5/7. Does anyone know if they are open for lunch, and if so what thee houses are? Thanks
  15. I’m rather surprised at the tone of some of the responses on this thread, somewhat berating the posts and opinions voiced others. I think people are entitled to their opinion on their experience, which is what I thought this forum is for. It’s ok to say you loved the food as well as it’s ok to say that you hated it. I’m more interested in the “why”, why did you love it, why did you hate it? Maybe some people are over critical, and maybe some people don’t complain even when faced with subpar food or service. Hopefully most are like me: not too fussy but since this isn’t free I do expect the food and service to be reasonably good, or at least ok. In any event I appreciate the many people who have posted with specific observations and suggestions regarding the items now bring offered
  16. If you can post your review that would be awesome. I’m not expecting fabulous food but hope for reasonably good food and service
  17. jinx, I owe you a coke. ( old school boomer reference). As soon as I finished writing, I saw your post 😄
  18. Thank you for your informative post. It was especially helpful to me since I’ll be cruising on the Oasis in 6 weeks. I’m not a foodie either. I just want food that is edible and service that is adequate. Actually I’m ok with less than that but I’ve convinced a number of first time cruisers to sail with us, ( some agreed begrudgingly) so I’d like to make a good impression
  19. True. I’m sailing on the Oasis in early May so I’m especially interested in input from people that have sailed her recently
  20. Thank you. I just booked one dinner at a specialty restaurant, not a dining package, and I guess I just didn’t catch it
  21. I’ve been on a ton of cruises but don’t eat at the specialty restaurants that often. When we have done so, we have tipped extra, thinking that the automatic gratuities that are added daily to your account covers general staff and not the specialty restaurants. Am I reading other posts correctly? Is there a 18% gratuity already added to your specialty restaurant charge which is separate and apart from the automatic gratuities added daily to your account? Does anyone know if that 18% tip goes to the restaurant staff or is it distributed to staff ship wide? if I’m already paying daily gratuities and on top of that another 18% at the specialty restaurant then I will adjust the amount of cash tips accordingly. Unless the service is intentionally awful, I probably will still tip over the 18% but it’s good to know the baseline. Thanks
  22. Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m going to make a more of what you and others enjoyed
