  1. We booked next to a ship, in San Juan, that was actually condos. You bought your own suite. I don't remember it's name though. Owners could rent their suites which had its own kitchen as well as a dining room if you didn't want to cook. . If you burned your toast the kitchen doors automatically closed. The suit owners decided on where in the world they would cruise to!

Anyone else know about this ship?

  2. We don't get off the ship here. Carnival built the port and the only thing there is Diamond International and shops. There are few vendors way down on the right but not many. We are not shoppers.

First time there we took the cable car for $5@, I hoped to snorkel but there weren't really any fish. We were brought up at LI beaches, live about maybe 10 minutes from the beach in NC so going to a beach is no big thing for us.

This is a boring stop for us.

  3. We had to cancel with in think it was 2 or 3 days. Usually you'd lose everything. My husband had a hand written letter from his cardiologist saying it would be unwise for him to travel at this time. (We didn't want to wait for a secretary to type the letter!) We faxed this letter to Carnival and they gave us a credit for a Carnival cruise any time in the future. My husband ended up having 6 1/2 hour open heart surgery . As soon as his surgeon said things were OK, we took a cruise using the fare from the canceled cruise.

Usually you can get everything back 60 or more days before the cruise. If it is closer than 60 days there is a percentage they will return, the % depending on how many days to sailing date.

  4. All Carnival ships have a Serenity Deck somewhere- never in same places, depends on each ship. This is adults only, no smoking and they mean both. All chaises and chairs have thick cushions on them. You can get towels here too and on some ships there is a full bar. Very few come there on embarkation day. After the 1st day you may not get a chaise, chair, and on some ships, hammock, wicker round thing, etc, etc.,- if you wait too long 9-9:30 !

You can get lunch and take it there which we have done may times when we don't get off the ship in a port.

  5. We used to because it was cheaper parking there than at a hotel. But now, after heart surgery and knee replacement we park for free. Charleston is the only Carnival port that has free handicapped parking. We have $5 shuttle from hotel in Cocoa (Port Canaveral) and we have parking garages we use in Miami or Lauderdale that are a lot less than at the port.

    Oh, we live in Swansboro.

  6. Have you tried Google to answer your question? Menus are the same for every ship in their line so all RCCL menus are the same. Google RCCL menus. The 2nd night on most ships are formal, lobster night.

  7. We started cruising more than 30 years ago and have been on 100++ cruises. We have never had anything stolen but may have just forgotten to pack something. My husband's Pepsi tie had to have fallen off the coat rack to back of closet floor. I forgot a mug once. realized it, went back to our cabin and found it on the steward's cart. He had a "I'm glad you came back for it". Everything of value goes into our safe, including my phone.

  8. If you go to Tulum from Cozumel make sure you take the ship's tour. You have to take the ferry to the mainland then a long bus ride to Tulum. If your tour is held up returning, the ship will not leave until you are back. If you take another tour and have a traffic accident on the way back that delays you, the ship will not wait for you, it will leave you in Cozumel.

Costa Maya is a port built by Carnival. There are lots of shops, a pool and the beach is right there. Haven't been there is a while but there was a lot of smooth coral in the water so it could be hard getting in the water. There is a small town in walkable distance with one main dirt road. You can get a cab ride here. It is also on the beach.

I think they may have a tour to ruins here so check that out.

Are you going to Mahogany Bay? If so this was built by Carnival and there are shops and a nearby beach across water. You can pay to take a cable car ride there or walk over a long bridge.

  9. The last page of the tours booklet offers this but there are only 2 tours with a maximum of 16 people per tour. Don't wait to sign up.

We have done this on Carnival and it was very worthwhile! However, you must wear closed toe shoes and ladies are not to wear a dress or skirt. There are narrow stairs you must take. You do not go to the crew cabins but do go to their bar & game room. You see where the officers and higher crew eat. You cannot go the the engine room but go to the engine control room. The chief engineer will tell you about his job and you can see the constant video of the engines and see men walking around them. The last stop is the bridge where you meet the captain and he explains how the ship is steered, etc. Everyone get s Behind the Fun hat and picture with the captain.

(It was $55 on the Fantasy & Ecstasy.)

There is another free tour but it doesn't take you to many places. You see the kitchen, see crew folding napkins, slicing lemons, etc. It is nothing like the Behind the Fun tour!

  10. Shorts during the day- unless you are like me. I put my bathing suit on 1st thing as sea days are spent by the pool and don't take it off until I dress for dinner. (I have swim shorts that look like regular shorts, from LL Bean.) I wear these off the ship. In 'old days" I'd wear a bathing suit under shorts as we always ended up going to a beach.

At night you will see more formal wear on 'cruise elegant' night but will still see shorts and jeans EVERY NIGHT in the dining room. A very few men will wear a tux. I wear what I'd wear to church other nights, some long dresses, some short or pants.

The evenings don't cool down but the air conditioning can be chilly. I usually have a shawl to wear as I don't wear it but have it over my shoulders. Or just take a sweater.

There are self service laundries and they are posted on the small ship's map you get. On the Vista I am sure you can use your sign 'n sail card to pay for this, don't need quarters - its $300 a load.

  11. Yes they put two free large bottles in you cabin . (We are going on our 8th Carnival cruise, this year, for New Years -we are cruise-a-holics!) There are also two bottles, same size, you can buy. Sometimes they aren't in your room right away but your steward will bring them.

However you do not need to buy water on Carnival. The water on the ship is fine to drink and is pure water- nothing added to it.

My son got us used to also using melted ice to drink. He travels for work and does this making coffee in hotels. Water to make ice has to be pure.
