  1. Booked for a southern Caribbean on April 22, 2017 out of Miami. Love this route...just enough ports and sea days to even everything out. Can always stand a stop in Aruba, but this has a couple of new ports...La Romana, DR and Curacao that we haven't been to yet.

Didn't know too much about the ship, but loved the concept of the Havana-themed rooms. Found out that they reclassified two of the aft deck rooms to Havana style (HE to HI class), so we grabbed on of those. We're sailing on Valor next week with our first aft-extended balcony room and think we'll enjoy being aft "snobs." :)

  2. Just booked a Havana aft balcony 7456 for our 19th anniversary cruise. Wife figured a deck up might make a little difference.

Personally, it think it will be pretty neat to look out and see beautiful Caribbean Sea water, some thatch roofs and a couple of palms.

    Only 748 days to go!

  3. I said it wasn't 100%.

    I agree with this!

I do NOT agree with this.

Having sailed two different lines that cater to two somewhat different clienteles, I can unequivocally say that cost of the cruise doesn't make one a chair hog. Rude people are rude regardless of how much they spend. I have been cruising or going to all-inclusives since 2003. Chair hogs are not a new thing.

Anyway, Kristi, I'm with you all the way. You have the right attitude. I've done exactly the same things you have done. I will usually ask people in the area if they've seen the owner of the lone flip-flop first though before turning it in to lost & found. Hey, if there's just 1, it's obviously lost..... :D

If those "big talkers" on the keyboards have a problem with how it's handled by people like me or Kristi, then they're the problem.

And something I learned long ago, I make up a sign that says I'm away for a few moments to the buffet or washroom. (I usually don't get in the pool. And if I do, my wife will be staying in her chair.) I have encountered a problem in doing that just once. Jerks will be jerks no matter what.

  4. One of the reasons my wife and I love cruising is getting to know a variety of people from various cultures around the world. It gives us an opportunity to get to know a little about places we may never get to visit.

One example was a young man (don't remember his name :() we met who worked in the buffet area on the Lido deck. My wife and I would stop by and have a snack later in the evening before heading to bed. He was from Bali and, when he saw us, took time to come over and talk to my wife and I. He was very open about his culture and allowed us to ask him whatever we wanted.

One night, he saw us and loaned us a book on Bali, so that we could learn more. I did take time to read through some of it in the evening, but it was such a nice gesture that he wanted to share more about his country and culture with us.

That and the fact that the bartender by the pool remembered that my wife liked a "dirty banana" and would have one ready for her anytime she showed up. :)

  5. I don't think this is limited to Carnival. I believe it is symptom of the "entitlement" thinking prevalent in our society nowadays.

I won't sound very PC by saying this, but I think the lower cost cruise lines tend to have a larger component of these "entitlement" thinking individuals. Not 100% but the bell curve definitely shifts.

Personally, I would talk to an attendant first, see if they could locate the "owner" of said chair and, if not found, have the remove the items for me.

My goodness. Sally and I used to cruise Carnival a lot with our kids because back then we believed Carnival was 2nd only to Disney for family friendly cruises. We stopped sailing Carnival a few years ago when they started making cuts and because we started seeing more of, well let’s say hostility among the passengers. Sally wants to try Carnival again and even signed us up for a cruise next year to see if things have changed. I don’t think I will suggest she read this thread.

  6. Anyone going on the Valor (8 night Southern Caribbean) after the port switch to Port Canaveral, can you let me know what nights formal nights will be on?

Also, anyone have a link to current dinner menus on the Valor?

Is Camp Carnival open during early dining for two 3-1/2 year old?

  7. I'd also recommend Black Diamond if you don't have a lot of people. For our family of 4 adults and 2 children, cost was $150 (minus gratuity) round trip from the airport to the cruise terminal.

just search for the above + Melbourne, FL in google for number. Person in charge is named John.

  9. Seems I'm resurrecting an older thread, but just had to post. Found out today from our booking agent that our ship changed from the Liberty to the Valor and I noticed that this type of cabin was available.

We had booked a main deck oceanview for our daughter's family (first time cruisers + our grandchildren) and asked about an upgrade to this category. To our surprise, cabin 9200 was available and, for a reasonable fee, managed to upgrade them to this room.

My wife and I are thrilled that we could book this for them and hope that they have a wonderful first-time experience cruising as a family.
