  1. My first thoughts went to the Four seasons at Manele Bay, Lanai. They have had it closed for the past year for a major overhaul, it is looking great. I believe they are opening very soon. And it is a special place to enjoy tropical tranquility.

Big Island has a few very nice options, I am especially fond of the Four Seasons Hualalai, but have stayed a enjoyed Mauna Lani, and Hapuna which are ok.

Maui? Well how about the four seasons Makena? It's not that fantasy island-ish but a couple can have some very alone time at the serenity pool or at a couple of the beach chairs.

Oahu, I don think there is such a place. Turtle bay is ok but better places can be found. Four Seasons Koolina has been under renovation for the past year and is expected to open soon...I hope.

With 1 exception these are all a bit pricy but in my humble opinion they have the beauty, atmosphere, and service.

Hope you have a great time.

    Aloha,

    Willi

  2. Aloha,

What do I know? I have sailed both Seabourn and Crystal, and my career has been that of a Captain. I believe it inexcusable to hit the ground on any vessel which you are paid to pass safely.

It's Inexcusable, you have every chart available to humankind and contact with many nearby vessels.

Yea. I hold myself to same degree of responsibility.

    Will

May I not ground on this weekends sail...

  3. I have hiked by it several times, and it's pretty much a walk in the park. People have slipped and scrapped themselves up and it's pretty short. It is connected to a bunch of trails above Honolulu. Each year the HURT ( Hawaii ultra running team) has a 100 mile race with Manoa being one of the legs. Which you can see at https://hawaiitrails.ehawaii.gov/island.php?island=Oahu

I have not ridden the bus into Manoa but seen them there so check the bus.org they likely get pretty close. Have fun, there are some great hikes on Oahu.

    Aloha,

    Willi

  4. I pay around $12-15 for either the nutragena or blue lizard. Both work for me in and out of the water. A wide hat and long sleeve shirt can rally help. When I use to work in tourism it was not unusual to see a sun burnt visitor to the islands.

    Have fun,

    Will

  5. Hy's steakhouse is good fun, with the grill room for all to see, Augie singing, and a very good bar. It's on Kuhio ave.

Others which are in hotels are still enjoyable. Including House w/out a Key is at a great location, good live music, decent food, while La Mer, one of Oahu's top restaurants is on the same property.

Duke's is a fun beachside place as well.

Along Lewers there are several restaurants to choose from and not connected to a hotel.

Wow, I say that I do not go to Waikiki very often but I have enjoyed dining at each of the named establishments including a few on Lewers.

    Have Fun!

  6. Aloha CW,

Yea some things, especially downtown are closed. The Arizona is open unless it's thanksgiving or Christmas oh yea and New Years. Other than downtown and buses being on holiday schedule it's a nice day. Ala Moana and Ward thrives, the North Shore is still beautiful, and there's always a quiet place to relax.

    Have Fun,

    Will

  7. I didn't mean to post such a positive recommendation and make it seem there are not other options but we did have a great 1/2 a day trip. The boat is a bit on the small side compared to the yacht we had in Kona.

We were three and had enough room. Kewalo has many to choose from and it's a whole lot closer. Fish wise though the south side gets more boats then the north does. Enjoy your visit, Aloha

  8. With full compliance to the must have done it, to recommend it I , and a few friends had a great 1/2 day on board the Kuuloa Kai. Scott, Steve and Hunter did a great job and the price is competitive. We caught all the fish we needed, and they know where the fish are.

They are out of Haleiwa so if you want one closer by you'd have to go to Kewalo. I've had my own boat over here so haven't needed to charter but I have chartered in Kona and then a visiting friend invited me on the Kuuloa Kai and at the end of the day everyone had an Ahi, Aku or Mahi and we all had part of a 403 lb marlin.

Have fun, I was just paddling as the sun was setting and it was beautiful, gotta love time on the water. I hope you find an enjoyable charter.

    Aloha,

    Will

  9. It's just my preference but I do not care for that bus one bit too crowded after a 5 hour flight and always just walk to the baggage claim. It's pretty straight forward getting off Alaskan and to the baggage claim.

    Have fun!

  10. 11 is a good time to be on the road and Google will lead you to the punahoe st exit where you drop right into Disco bay. 90 minutes should work, assuming no accidents or construction and that's a fairly safe assumption. Enjoy the stay and Go Orange!

  11. I'm not familiar with the website but a nice walk around Honolulu is pretty easy. If it's a Saturday or Sunday it can get pretty quiet but week days things are happening and everything is open. Iolani palace is just a few blocks away, and you can choose between several restaurants at the end of the walk.

    Have fun!

  12. Just curious cause I have done the road around Haleakala both ways, In a car and on a bike multiple times and at all hours of the day and night. Hey I like the drive, to me it's beautiful. There's around 10 miles where the road is a bit rough but I never got a flat on my road bike so it can't be that bad.

They did have the road closed after some rock fall but now they have those ugly steal cable curtains to cover the cliffs.

So if your interested go for it and enjoy the ride, hopefully the Kaupo store will be open but I would just pack a lunch and plenty of water, there are places to stop and walk around. Have fun!

  13. I don't think it will be crowded but the times might be a challenge. Looks to me like route 19 is your trip to Waikiki. (Weekday and weekend are fairly similar) Couple potential issues, after the 11:31 bus the last 2 buses stop at Ward ave, aka does not go into Waikiki. Then where it goes in Waikiki depending where you are staying, could leave you with a bit of a walk. I wouldn't worry about the backpacks, I've brought a full 3 day pack on once.

    Couple resources

Thebus.org has the routes and maps but the best source of info is to call, the people there KNOW the system. 808.848.5555

Hope you have a nice visit,

    Aloha,

    Will

  14. Aloha,

When my wife and I go out for dinner we use one of two options. Of course there's uber, but recently Teds Hawaii Limo has been our preferred option.

Full disclosure I have used both services and Ted has been a friend for many years. I was glad to see him start out on his own because he understands service.

Both Islands are beautiful and I hope your party has a great adventure here in the Islands.

    BTW, that's for Oahu.

    Aloha,

    Will

  15. If Your on a taxi and can stop there is Kmart about a 1/2 mile before the pier, in town there is a small wine shop on queen 1/2 a block Diamond Head (east) of fort st. Then the Walgreens mentioned but I have never been there.

There is a nice place that has an adjacent bistro called "HASR" as in highly allocated spoiled rotten and they are about 5 blocks up on beretania st. A decent lunch too I must say. Might as well get a couple agreeable bottles.

    Have fun, Aloha,

    Will

  16. I LOVE the Iolani Palace. Not only is it beautiful, but it gives you an incredible look into the history of the Hawaiian Islands. I love taking friends there on their first visit to Hawaii and seeing their appreciation, surprise, and pleasure at getting a glimpse into Hawaii's past. You can make reservations. Cherie

And from any of the piers by Aloha Tower you can walk to Iolani palace. About 4 blocks then if it's a weekday walk back along fort street or do a yelp search for lunch. There are a ton of interesting places to eat downtown.

    Luau should be fun, enjoy!

    Aloha,

    Will
