  1. I waited a couple years to get a GoPro because of its lack of image stabilization. I just hate jittery video. The G4 and FunnyGo gimbals have made the GoPro a much more viable alternative for me - they can have a huge impact on the quality. I definitely encourage you to give one of them some serious consideration!

Good points. I have tried a steadycam type stabiliser but that was terrible because the gopro is so light.

The gopro for me is all about capturing fun and action in places I don't want to take my dedicated Panasonic camcorder. I find myself using it more and more though and steadying the shots is something I am struggling with. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing ok using a pole and my arms to steady shots. I extend the pole, hang the cam upside down off the end and almost balance the pole on both hands which gives me some ok sweeps and pans but it's the walking shot that is not good for me.

  2. the gopro can be a perfect cam for a cruise it allows a excellent POV to capture closed quaters

Totally. Can't wait. Have to look into the need for shallow water filters for when snorkelling. Anyone had experience ?

  3. We will be on getaway for the first time in March next year. I have no actual experience but from reading in here and elsewhere on the interwebs the interior rooms can vary in size dependant on their position on the ship. Cabin availability after embarkation varies as will your emarbarkation time but they will normally be ready by 2 or 3 pm. Ive seen a lot of folks who have visited their room and left their hand luggage in there while it is being prepared. Get on board, get some lunch, explore and the announcement will come about cabins.

Electric outlets in not sure on. I am sure I will be taking s power strip with us as we have so many gadgets, cameras and what not to charge it's impossible. They do have US and EU sockets so if you have an eu adapter you can use them to charge as well.

I'm sure others will be able to answer better though [emoji3]enjoy your trip

  4. 5 days in London then a train ride to Edinburgh for six nights in Scotland.

Great trip! Hope you enjoy. We love our weekends away in the UK as well as big vacations. I love London. We only live an hour away by train so we often go for the day

  5. Oh no. I've got the 3+ black and have my eye on the 4 for night videos. Going to wait a few months to buy before February 2016 cruise. We are going to UK for an 11 day land vacation in June. Only need one Gopro for that.

Yes I have my eye on a 4 but might wait to buy it until the 5 is out and it will be a bit cheaper! Using two cams is fab but can't beat a gopole and one camera for sight seeing!

Where abouts in UK are you tripping Tommy? Some great sightseeing to be had!

  6. dont let me influence you, but im not 100% happy with the hero camera. dont get me wrong, its fab for our 10 year old and as a second camera on some shoots i have done. It does restrict you with not having the wifi, and the limiting settings, but i guess i am spoilt by the 3+ black a bit.

having the second camera is fab though, and its going to be great to get an 11 year old view of our cruise and cocoa beach vacation!

  7. Afternoon cruise GoPro ers

Went on our first cruise last year. spent time with two other couples who had GoPros for snorkelling etc and bought one as soon as i got home.

Love the little thing so much that i bought another, so next march we will be cruising with 2 GoPros - i have 3+ Black and also have the GoPro hero which my boy uses.

Have been using the GoPro for loads of filming doing all sorts of crazy things with my family.

great to read through this thread and hopefully it can be reignited with new GoPro ers!!

  8. Thank you once again for all the kind comments and well wishes.

M is actually now on her way home to the States after coming to visit me, and we have talked a lot this week about how excited we are for our upcoming anniversary cruise. Planning that will keep us busy and help while away the next couple of months :D

wowsers - just read all your cruise reviews - Fabulous!

cant wait to read about your next cruise - any hints on which it will be??

  9. i would speak to your cruise consultant and ask about other options avaialble to 5 people (3 adults and 2 kids) - the family suites may work out cheaper than 2 rooms for you!

you really dont spend a lot of time in your room, if you do, then there is something not working for you! the ship will be huge and with a whole host of activities to keep you, grandma and the kids entertained. cabins are for sowers, changing and sleeping only!

  10. Maybe by doing what I suggested in an earlier reply - ask for an upgrade instead of a "refund"....

Exactly right. We have had on board credit applied and upgraded to mid ship mini suite. Didn't get any money back, but perks have been added. We were initially offered two meals in speciality restaurant foc but declined and went for the second offer of obc.

Family travelling with us have been upgraded to front facing ocean view from and inside cabin too.

  11. So it's ok to order a soda from a bar then take it into any restaurant? And if you did order a soda in a restaurant its included in the package?

on our cruise on the Sun last year, yes it was ok to take a bar drink into the MDR, and yes soda ordered in the MDR was on the package (when you actually got it delivered to the table that is!)

  12. Hi there. From what people have said you can buy the soda package for individuals when on board and at sea (no state tax when at sea!). For carry on soda it's been advised to check it as luggage with a tag.

For ordering drinks on sofa package, you need the cruise card with sticker on it for each drink ordered. So one card cannot order 2 drinks.

On our last cruise, ordering a soda in the MDR was slow/crap. I started taking one in with me in the end it took so long to get one!

    Hope it helps

  13. My partner and I did a cruise from Miami last year and we stayed a couple of nights at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Miami. We took at taxi to South Beach and spent the late morning and afternoon walking around the South Beach area. We then has a great dinner at Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach.

The second day we took the people mover over to Bayside Market and the surrounding area and walked around. We later took a taxi to Little Havana and spent an afternoon there. We enjoyed walking around and just relaxing.

There is a grocery store near the Doubletree (1 or 2 blocks) and we went there the night before our cruise and bought a case of bottled water to bring on the ship with us. We paid less than $10 for the case (12 - 1 liter bottles) which lasted the 7 day cruise. It beats paying $5 per bottle on the ship.

I hope this helps. We're sailing the Getaway in October and we're driving to Key West for a couple of days before our cruise and then spending the night before our cruise in South Beach (we want to have dinner at Joe's Stone Crab again)!

We did a similar scenario to your October cruise. 3 nights in key west (artist house on Fleming - just gorgeous!) then Hampton inn the night before our cruise.

Next trip we are staying one night in Miami before cruise and then off to cocoa beach and space coast for few days after.

    Love it
