  1. It doesn't look good but that's what I'm trying to figure out is if all this rain it shows really isn't as bad as it looks and it will really be sunny most of the day with just some thunderstorms in between (wishful thinking?)

Hoping someone who has seen a similar weather forecast before their trip can share how much rain vs. sun it actaully turned out to be.

  2. So it's looking like an 80% chance of thunderstorms every day of my cruise next week (Norwegian Sky on 5/4). Is this normal for the Bahamas. Should I expect it to still be mostly sunny except for a few short thunderstorms or should I be concerned about the weather? Obviously the forecast could change by next week but I'm just looking for experiences from people who have traveled there before with this type of forecast.

  3. This is our first balcony cabin! Soooo very excited. I booked it and was going to try surprising my daughter(22) with it, but I don't keep a secret well, lol! She was already geeked about the UBP. I didn't want her to have to worry about what her bar tab would be at the end of the week.

Yea I'm pretty excited about the UBP too! It wouldn't have been worth it for us to buy it since we don't drink a lot(like $556!!!) but we would have easily spent $150-$200 on alcohol so it works out pretty well where we're really not paying that much more for the balcony.

  4. My daughter and I will also be on there with you next week. We started out in an ocean view cabin and just upgraded to a balcony last week. With the ocean view or balcony you get the promo options, which will be well worth it, whichever promo you chose.

    One week!! Happy cruising!

Thanks! I was typing a message asking about the promos because I totally didn't realize you got those too or I would have jumped on it this morning but my travel agent just called. I just went for it though even though it ended up being $100 more ($360 extra) I'm so angry at our travel agent, I e-mailed him back a couple of questions this morning and he never answered, I swear he only answers when I ask to spend more money. E-mailed him again this afternoon saying I wanted to proceed and he called me back immediately but the price has increased $100 since this morning (which I had already noticed by stalking the NCL site). But I'm getting a $75 on board credit and the UBP so it was worth it although I would have been much happier with the price this morning.

  5. Also, now looking on the website it looks like I could end up with an obstructed view balcony also? Is it still a normal balcony where you can see the ocean just might have a big bar going in front of it or something?

Also, I'm guessing the answer to this questions is no, but would any of the promos be available as well, for example, would I be able to get the UBP even though I originally booked as an inside room?

  6. I'm looking at upgrading our room for our Norwegian Sky cruise that leaves a week from today. I've never cruised before and my travel agent is not very helpful (will probably just do all of this myself next time) so I'm unsure if I should upgrade now, wait it out to see if there are more price drops, or just stay where I'm at.

We currently have room 6313 - from what I understand this is a forward room in a quiet area and one of the bigger inside rooms which sounds like about the best inside room I can get. For $20 I can upgrade to an ocean view guarantee but was told I could get an obstructed view so I'm not sure if it is really worth it to possibly end up with no view and on a worse floor/maybe a loud area. We also have the option to upgrade to a balcony guarantee for $260. Sounds like a pretty good deal - we originally paid about 750 and the balcony guarantee since the prices have dropped comes out to about $1,000. I'm leaning toward going with the upgrade to the balcony. We are on a budget so that may cut into a bit of our spending money for the trip but I feel like a balcony might be worth it. It sounds like a good deal but having never cruised before I just wanted to get others opinions on the pricing given it is a week before the cruise. Is this about as low as it will get or is there a chance the prices will drop even more this last week?

  7. I'm leaving for my first cruise a week from today on the Norwegian Sky and have a few questions.

    1) How late are things open on the ship - bars, casinos, etc. Are casinos open all night and if not what time do they close? My husband has trouble sleeping sometimes and is hoping there will be something to do if can't sleep other than keep me awake in that tiny room haha.

    2) I have heard about them taking pictures on the boat and selling them to you. How does this work? We have had family request we buy one of these as I don't think we've given them a picture of us since our wedding 5 years ago. Is there one when you first walk on the ship? Are there certain places where you can go at any time and get a picture taken. I know there is a really expensive professional one but I'm really just looking for how the cheaper ones work - the when, wheres and hows so we don't miss it.

    3) Finally, where all do we need to actually tip cash? I've heard you should tip the porters (I think that's what their called?) who take your luggage. What about when ordering drinks in a bar and is there any tipping out of the ordinary I need to be aware of on the islands? We are stopping at Freeport, Great Stirrup Cay, and Nassau.

    Thanks!

  8. I don't know if this question is better to put here or on the NCL forum but I thought I would try here first. We are cruising on the NCL Sky on 5/4. When we booked our flights I thought we had read that you could have your luggage taken directly from the ship to the airport and checked for your flight, but after researching now it looks like they don't do that anymore on the Sky. We arrive back to Miami at 8AM and our flight does not leave until around 8PM. I would like to use the day to explore Miami a bit, but I don't know what we will do with all of our luggage. The only thing I can think of is to take a cab all the way to the airport, check our luggage, and then take a cab back into the city for the day, but that seems like it would be expensive and take a lot of our time. Are there any other options I'm not thinking of that would help us find something to do with our luggage for the day?

  9. I wasn't sure where the best place to put this question would be but here it is. Does anyone have any good solutions for chub rub or thigh chafing? I rarely wear dresses or shorts because of this but I just bought three new maxi dresses for my cruise coming up in 2 weeks that I would love to wear most of the time, but I am concerned about the heat and humidity if my thighs rubbing together will be able to take it. I certainly don't want to get bad chafing on the first day and be uncomfortable in shorts or a bathing suit the rest of the trip. Years ago this would happen to me at the beach but I've just always worn capris or pants since to avoid it but I refuse to do that on my cruise .. so please if anyone has good solutions please share! The only solution I have found is using A&D ointment which I have done for a wedding I was in outdoors in the hear when I wore a dress but it was very goopy and kind of nasty feeling so I'm hoping for a better solution!

ETA: I am trying to lose weight before my cruise but I just booked it 6 weeks out and now its only 2 weeks away! I've lost 10 pounds and am hoping to lose at least 5 more before the cruise but lets face it .. with the shape of my thighs even if I lost all the weight I needed to lose they would still rub together.

  10. Following this thread because I am going on my first cruise in 3 weeks and have no idea whether or not I will be sea sick as I've never really been on any type of boat (the only thing I can remember is being on a ferry that you drove onto when I was 10 or 11). I don't get motion sickness in a car, but I can't ride any type of ride that goes in circles (swings, merry go round, etc.) because they make me nauseous. Not sure if that could relate to getting sea sick on a boat but it is definitely something I'm concerned about. I have no idea what medicines to bring just in case. I'm thinking the sea band and Dramamine. I don't know if it makes sense for me to go to the doctor for a prescription if I don't even know if I will get sea sick. Also don't want to take anything that will make me sleepy ..

  11. I booked an inside guarantee room for my May 4th cruise on the Norwegian Sky. From what I've read they typically don't assign until a week or so out but when I look at my boarding documents we've already been assigned stateroom 6313.

Has anyone been in this area? Just concerned if it's noisy mostly. I was trying to look at the deck plan here

    http://www.cruisexperts.gr/cruise-media/ships/norwegian-sky/norwegian-sky.pdf

but it's hard to tell what it is under on deck 6. How many stairs are there to get to deck 6A? Is it possible I will still get an upgrade to a different room?

This is my first cruise if you can't tell!

  12. Thanks for all of the replies! I feel better about my birth certificate now, it is the one I used to get my marriage license a few year ago and my husband has used his to get a new social security card so I know it's an official one was just worried since it didn't have the raised seal.

As for the day I'm worried about making it back to the ship, we are looking at doing an excursion (The Blue Lagoon dolphin encounter - not sure if we're going to book it through the ship or through the Blue Lagoon website) but it only lasts 3-4 hours so with 9 hours on the island we would definitely want to explore a little too. I'm probably over worrying about getting back to the ship. Is it pretty easy to get a taxi on Nassau from places other than the port?

  13. I have just booked my first cruise (Norwegian Sky to the Bahamas on May 4th) and I have a number of questions.

    1. When will I get to see a schedule of the events on the boat. I keep seeing things about comedy shows and white parties but how will I know when these actually happen? Do you have to reserve a seat for the shows or arrive early in order to get a seat?

    2. I don't have a passport and I have this fear of them not accepting my birth certificate. If I got it from the county courthouse where I was born is and it shows State of North Carolina certification of vital record, but it doesn't have a raised seal that I have seen mentioned. Will this work?

3.On port days what time do you usually plan to get back to the ship. All of our ports are from 8am-5pm. At Nassau I really want to do the dolphin encounter at Blue Lagoon (says its 3 1/2-4 hours but doesn't leave until 10) I also want to eat at the The Poop Deck, that would leave me 3 hours between when we would hypothetically get back from the excursion and when we would go to eat, but I'm concerned about how long it will take to get a taxi and get there and back. What time do you typically plan to get back to the cruise ship?

I'm sure I will think of more questions later but these things are on my mind right now.
