  1. Would anyone be interested in sharing a charter plane to Chichen Itza? The Royal Caribbean excursion is almost a 2 1/2 hour bus ride + 45 minute ferry ride each way for only about an hour on site. That's way too long. We would like to charter a plane, and can take four additional guys with us. It would only be a 45 minute flight then we would have about a two hour time period at the ruins, and beat all the other tour crowds. It includes a stop to swim or explore at Cenote. We would be back to ship around 2:30. I would have to have a commitment as they require a deposit. Contact me if interested, need to know ASAP. See details:

    Cessna 207: 6 persons: $1750.00 USD ($292/person)

Plus Airport Tax: $25.00 per person (collected in cash at departure)

    INCLUDES

    Private Flight Round-trip

Ground Transportation to/from ship to Chichen Itza

    Side trip to cenote

Entrance Fee and Private Guide at Chichen Itza

    Entrance fee at Cenote

    Mexican Lunch

    Water on board

  3. This will be our 6th with Atlantis, but our first on one of the mega ships. I wasn't crazy about the itinerary, but wanted to try the larger ship for a change. We are not fully into the party scene so looking forward to what the rest of the ship has to offer. We are both in our early 50's, been together for 31 years. Looking forward to meeting others!

  6. Hi Drake, just wanted to thank you for all your advice. We just got back, we rented a car and drove all over the island. Since we had a four-wheel-drive jeep we decided to go up into the mountains and explore. I'm not sure I would call those "roads" but it was a fabulous adventure with some amazing views. We ate at angry nares for lunch. Overall, a great day of driving, eating, drinking, beach time, renting a car is definitely a great way to go!

  7. We did end up renting a car. It took a little getting used to, not so much the driving on the left, but more so with the steering wheel on the right. But it was great to get out and explore the island on our own. The roads are in ok condition. Actually better than in Michigan, albeit a bit narrow around some of the curvy mountain roads. We didn't spend any time in Castries, so traffic really wasn't an issue. Don't bother with Sixt rental car. I had a reservation with them, and even called them the morning of the day we were in port, to make sure they would meet us at the port. They never showed up. We ended up renting with national, which was right at the port. The car was very old, but it was a four-wheel-drive for $80, plus the $22 international driver license fee. Spent another $15 or so in gas. All in all a really good deal for about six hours of use.

  8. We will be in St Lucia on RC next month. None of the excursions look that appealing, and from what I've read, not much scenery around the port. Is this an island to explore by rental car? We've rented on other islands, all with great success. Are there rentals near the port? Thanks!

  9. Hi Drake. Thanks for this thread. Any thoughts on renting a car in St. Croix. We've done it on other Caribbean islands some with great success others were a challenge. Is that a good way to see the island. Not really interested in spending a day at the beach, but would like to tour the island on our own

  10. My partner and I booked Adventure of the Seas February 6, 2016 out of San Juan. Sails to St. Thomas, St. Croix, Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada. We've done five cruises on Atlantis, but this will be our first "straight" cruise. Going with a small group of friends. The price was amazingly low, so we just went for it.
