  1. I've read in Luggage Direct posts that you have to disembark early ( around 8:15am) if you are using this service. If your bags are going on to the airport without you, why can't you stay on board as long as possible. We have Southwest flight from FLL departing at 2pm.

  2. We are sailing on the Eurodam to Hawaii on October 1st and wondering if anyone has taken the "Jewels of Hawaii: Allerton & McBryde Tropical Garden & Waterfall" excursion in Kauai. We have been to Kauai before but have not seen these sites. Any feedback appreciated.

We weren't on a cruise but took the tour of the gardens. Well worth it. Recommended it highly.

  3. You can go to Jacks from the road outside the cruise port. But to get to the road/gate and golf carts, you will have to walk.

May I suggest looking into the Whales Tail on the right side of the cruise port where you can access it via the walks and pavement at the cruise port. It's cheaper, or was cheaper, than Margaritaville and Jack's. More food selection than at Jack's. Same rum as at Jack's. More seating and shade than at Jack's. No Toffer though.

Is the Whales Tail inside the cruise port or outside? It doesn't show up on the cruise port map that is part of the website.

  4. We were on the Viking Douro cruise last year and had to pay gratuities in cash - something about how the staff is taxed on tips. Luckily we had extra Euros, a lot of our fellow passengers had to visit an ATM at our last shore excursion.

What itinerary were you on? We are on a Rhine cruise in Oct and I can't find anything about paying gratuities in cash.

I thought we could just add them to our shipboard account and pay with credit card.

  5. Yes, the Nieuw Amsterdam has had the interactive televisions for over a year now. They have also had the Marketplace and New York Pizza for at least that long, too.

    Ruth,

Thanks for that clarification. I was on the NA in Aug 2016 and thought they had the updated TVs, Marketplace and NY Pizza and I wasn't dreaming.

  6. Thought I would add some more flight information as it applies to our upcoming Viking Vidar cruise from Amsterdam to Basel in Oct.

Our package included the Viking air for $395 pp. We paid the $50pp for Air Plus. Another $150pp to select our flights.

Viking offered KLM from ORD to AMS on a 747 . Our return was Basel to Paris to ORD on Air France, Airbus A330.

On KLM we upgraded to Economy Comfort for $86 pp. This is a section behind business class with a 3-2 seating configuration. It provides extra leg room and we selected the 2 seat side.

On Air France CDG to ORD we paid $54pp to select seats in the 2-4-2 economy section. We chose the 2 seat side.

  7. I am contemplating buying the HAL transfer from the pier to YVR after our NA cruise in August. I know it is more expensive than a cab or the Skytrain, but I am more concerned about the convenience. I don't want to fight to get a taxi or have to drag luggage to the train station.

Has anyone use the HAL transfers to the airport? Comments?

  8. Doing a HAL cruise from Vancouver in Aug 2016. Staying at the Marriott Pinnacle the night before departure.

Because the hotel is so close to the cruise terminal, we are planning to walk there. Can we access the cruise check-in area through the Pan Pacific hotel even if we are not guests there?

If not, what is the best way to get to the check in area on foot?

  9. Is Luggage Direct still available in Vancouver? Does Air Canada participate?

We are on a Nieuw Amsterdam Alaska cruise arriving on Aug 20 2016.

We are looking at a YVR-ORD flight that departs at 1:15pm.

We used Luggage Direct on our last cruise in Ft Lauderdale and were able to be one of the first to disembark. Can we do this in Vancouver.
