  1. We are cruising on the Zaandam for 10 days in ALaska in Sept 2018. I would really like to know YOUR THOUGHTS about the enrichment classes (ie:cooking) on board. They sound interesting . Have any of you taken any?

What is your not to be missed in Alaska? We will be Alaska first timers.

    All thoughts welcome.

Also, how do yo like the Zaandam? Thank you.

  2. hideously wrong? I disagree with you. The plumbing in our cabin had to be repaired while we where on it. the ship it self had many spaces of rot and repair needed, and we saw many. several days many of our excursion food came unrefrigerated, and in cardboard containers. dirty linen and less than adequate cleaning staff. our 125.00 cake for our welcome package was delivered hours before we arrived, and was left without a cover open a bed with the room temps in the 80's. the staff tried to drop off booze as an apology, which if they had bothered to notice, was not part of nay of our charges, we don't drink. that alone is unacceptable in many cultures. third world bathrooms on excursions and ****ty conditions on that particular ship made it less than what the above poster may have found in april.

I stand by what I said, and the person who said it was hideously wrong can refund my 12000.00 and can then take their hideous and be nicer.

  3. between the pre-cruise crappy excursions and stops and the cruise, and all was NOT worth the money. the ship itself was not worth the money, and the excursions before and during were NOT up to par. Un refrigerated brown salad, third world bathrooms and rickety buses were NOT worth the money.

save your money, stay at a hotel.

AND, The highly regarded Jefferson's Bisto was by far one of the worst meals we have ever had in our lives.

  4. Our first cruise was on the POA Sept 11.

Let me say this: In no way on hell or earth did I get the $$$$ money's worth in this cruise. The ship itself is in need of demolition, and between the poor excuse for upscale restaurant quality in some places and the downright awful shore /pre cruise excursions (including crappy bus, pathetic garbage lunches and such) I can say :

for the love of your common sense and wallet do not do this cruise.

The many folks onboard who told us of the better(celebrity, or oceania) convinced us to try a different line. We will. But I feel like I threw away thousands on this. We could have done a few islands for this price.

IF you like throwing away money, do it. but be forewarned. Value is important to me, and I am no skinflint. But garbage brown salad unrefrigerated on a 96 degree excursion day was bad. and the pre cruise food lunches were even worse!

  5. foot surgery survivor here. I wear Crocs, and doctor is okay with it. I will be wearing them with all outfits on the cruise. What you wear on your feet is nobody's business. Those if us who don't have perfect feet are limited, and not all orthopedic shoes are created equal.
  6. Between flight and air cancelations due to weather on a Superbowl weekend, and a young someone smashing into us, I can tell you the few hundred saved us tens of thousands of dollars. I would ignore the person questioning you.

  7. OP,

I had changed our pre cruise and post cruise hotel more times than Reagan ate jelly beans. We ended up doing pre tour, and are at the Marriott.

for the end, We settled on the Hilton, and I STOPPED READING Trip Advisor before I drove my husband out of his mind.
