Thursday??? Please don't scare me. We are schedule to get on her this Frida in Fort Lauderdale. Hopefully you just made a typo, otherwise I have a lot of phone calls to make.

  2. We are coming off a Seabourn ship on Saturday Sept. 9th 7am arrival. Our flight leaves YVR at 11am. There will be a Princess ship and a HAL ship disembarking on the same day. I have heard horror stories about bus and taxi wait times. Can anyone recommend a private car service to take us to the airport ?

Really can't see how 3 cruise ships can fit in at that terminal. When we disembarked in May the back of your ship extended to the end of the terminal, same with the HAL ship on the other side. Does your information say O Canada Terminal?

When we got outside there was a long line of taxis on the street leading up to the terminal, we didn't see anyone waiting for a taxi. A hotel sits above the terminal along with convention hall, it is a very busy place.

  3. We picked one up at the airport outside the departure level on an island. At the port we picked one up outside the terminal but we had pre-arranged a pick-up, though others had not and had no problem getting one.

Just a note, it took us an hour and half to travel the distince on both arrival and departure days. They did not take a direct route and crammed boxes and suitcases in the back which kept sliding forwarding and hitting our heads. It was not a pleasant trip and we will not be taking them again.

Ditto... we do the same thing. We like to count the number of people who put on their life vest when they are not suppose too. We have found the numbers differ depending on the region you cruise. The Australian/New Zealand trip this year had an extremely large number of individuals putting vests on. Even after crew told them to take them off they put them back on again with the rest of their group now joining them. Crew came back over and had them take them off and as soon as the crew left they put them back on which led to more individuals in their group putting them on. No matter how many announcement they made about not putting on the vests people kept putting them on. Crew was running all over the place trying to get them to take them off. We looked around the room and saw that we were not the only ones chuckling at the situation, even some crew members started to chuckle.

  5. On the Island Princess this May, we noticed a change in the buffet desserts compared to past Princess cruises. They had quite a large number of desserts displayed but 1/3 of them were sugar free, 1/3 of them were gluten free and 1/3 were the normal desserts. I understand the concept of providing everyone with items they can eat but when you take out 2/3 of the desserts that doesn't really leave much of a choice. Also we noticed that they had the same desserts 3 days in a row.

  6. Rome in Limo will pick you up at the port take you round all the sights and return you in good time

Totally agreed. Rome in Limo, as far as we are concerned, is the best way to get to/from Rome and see the city. We recommended them to some friends of ours and both couples said it was the best trip and tour they have ever had.

  7. We stopped sending clothes out 5 days before the end of the cruise. In the past we normally send out the clothes we plan on wearing on the plane home a couple days before we disembark but stopped because we felt so sorry for the crew & steward regarding laundry.

  8. You forgot to add the occasional shrinkage to your list of damaged items. More often than not their laundry ruins my stuff that I'd rather wash out thing myself.

Have had several items ruined over the years. We have now learned to only send all whites together in one bag or all dark clothes together in one bag. Only send one bag at a time or they will dump them all in together, we found this out the hard way. Also we found laundry quality is poor near the end of the cruise because more people are trying to get their laundry done before they get off the ship.

  9. They are endless with the brochures, multiple times a week, it is beginning to annoy me. We have asked them to stop sending them, told them we had no intention of sailing with them again (bad cruise on the "Sick Ship" last year) but they keep coming. I did manage to get them to stop the email offers though.

  10. Coral for the following reasons:

    - Horizon Court is in the front of the ship which makes it a great spot to sit and watch for whales, seals, otters, etc. while moving through the Alaskan waterways.

    - Size of the ship, less passengers and the feel of the ship.

    - Fly home from Vancouver

I have been on both Star and Coral. I definitely prefer the Coral, like pretty much everything about it.

  11. I doubt matress pads are changed that often either. Do you ever see them on laundry carts in the halls on ships or hotels: I don't. It is what it is. Just enjoy the cruise

Just remembered.... when I take my suitcases out from under the bed to pack on the last day of the cruises I have noticed plastic bags of new linen, pad and comforter for the next cruise. I think the room steward puts them in the room a day or two before to save them some prep time.

Also, I have seen on disembarkation day crew members (not room stewards) stripping the entire beds and leaving everything on the floor. I've even seen the crew members that work the pool area putting clean towels and items in the rooms to help out the room stewards. It seems to be a real team effort getting the ship ready for the next group of passengers.

  12. I noticed on the Ruby recently there were no mattress pads. Also noticed that the mattress was really dirty. (And these are the new style mattress on the Ruby for one year. Worse than no mattress pad is no duvet cover on the comforter. Two sheets top and bottom wrapped around the comforter. Sharing a comforter, those sheets came off and the exposed comforter was almost on my mouth. I asked the room steward to put a duvet on the comforter and he said no longer have any on board.

This past week was staying at a hotel and same thing, two sheets on comforter.

Also had the two sheets with comforter in between them on the Emerald last February. Didn't particularly care for the setup, it was awkward. But had the comforter in duvet this May on the Island Princess. Noted it was ragged on the ends, they tried to hide it by tucking it in under the mattress. It was far more comfortable to sleep with for me but my husband liked the separate sheets setup.

For reference, the Emerald had the new beds while the Island didn't. Looks like they are doing the two sheet setup with the new beds.

  13. Quote: "Anytime Dining is not available on Pacific Princess but Club Class guests will have first priority in choosing their preferred seating time for Club Class Dining."

Defeats the concept of Club Class Dining. The idea was to eat when you wish not a set time, along with a designated section and entrance, plus additional items on the menu and table side preparation.

I've seen Club Class on the Emerald and how it functions. In addition to the above, the tables are set with gray linen, napkins and nicer settings. Majority of the tables were for two and then four diners. Fancier than the MDR area (thought it was pretty cool).

Having been on the Pacific Princess in the past, I just can't see how it would work in a traditional dining setting. But maybe they figured something out. I'll find out real soon since we will be on her the beginning of June.

  14. We are Elite and have been sailing in suites so Club Class Dining is a nice bonus for us. I will report back on how it is implemented on the Pacific Princess since there is only one MDR on that ship.

It looks like Club Class dining on the Pacific Princess will be taking over one of the specialty restaurants on deck 10 and will not be in the MDR. If true, those of us in Club Class will have a fabulous view with our meals. So looking forward to this June trip.

  15. BeesKate,

Thank you for responding to my question. My husband can do stairs, just not a lot of them, bad knees so it hurts. I guess, regarding the small rocking boats, we will just have to see one before he can decide whether he can get in and out of one. He is pretty motivated for this trip so might just endure some pain for this adventure.
