  1. We are flying in from the East Coast next Thursday and we work in construction so we usually wake up very early at home which equals really waking up early on vacation, esp on the West Coast. We only have one morning in Seattle before our cruise so any ideas of something to do that we could do very early in the morning? I know we can walk the market but most of it's booths don't open til 10am. Any local parks or attractions we could check out early? We won't have a car but are very used to Uber-staying at Marriott Waterfront.

This link has some great ideas

You can walk to Pioneer Square and the Seattle Center. Take a bus up the counter balance on Queen Anne and stop at Kerry Park where you can get some amazing pictures of the city or go check out the Columbia Tower observation

much more affordable than the Space Needle

Also just walking through the Market (Pike Place Market) early in the morning is peaceful and you get to see the vendors getting set up.

    Hope this helps.

  2. We (group of 7 -2 young adults, 3 seniors and 2 kids 14,8,6) will be in Vancouver this weekend (Saturday afternoon and Sunday) before boarding our ship Sunday afternoon. Weather shows rain. We had plan to do Granville Island Saturday afternoon and Stanley Park Sunday morning. Any suggestions on things to do in case it does rain? Also is the weather up there more of steady rain or little showers? We are from lower Alabama and storms are pretty hard here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

The rain is normally more of a steady drizzle, nothing like what you are used to in Alabama. You may want to look into the hop on hop off bus, we live in Seattle and did that in Vancouver years ago and found it interesting and you get the chance to get off and explore and then catch one that comes along later. The only problem is it might be spending with a group your size.

Here is the link and it has a map that shows where all of the stops are at.

  3. Hi SuperCrewBear:

We are going in late May and wanted to find out from you based on your pictures that there is a possibility to see bears? We like to take pictures and are interested in knowing what wildlife we could see.

Also where did you take the bear picture?

    Thank you in advance!!

I took my first cruise ever to Alaska last year in May. I had done a lot of reading and pondering and May was the month I decided worked for me. Though you will have kids with you one of the things I figured out on my own is that most kids aren't out of school yet - our ship had a small handful of kids that I saw - I'm guessing 20-25 max. Being at the first of the season the locals in the shops and such aren't worn out from endless herds of tourists - they are probably very glad to see you after a long winter. I researched the weather and statistically May is one of the drier months of the year - though that's never guaranteed. So, I can't imagine going any other time. We had nice weather, was the first or only ship in port all but a couple days. We had a very good experience. I have another one booked for May 2018 - May 2017 is going to be a two week road trip of the Alaskan interior beginning and ending in Anchorage. :D

Here are a few samples of our May '16 cruise - don't be afraid of May! Good Luck!

  4. Does anyone know what the difference between these two excursions through Celebrity?

White Pass Railway and Skagway Highlights

White Pass Railway and Klondike Highway Journey

We are interested in going through the cruiseline to use our OBC. I did call Celebrity and they had no idea.

I appreciate any information that can be provided:)

  5. We will be in Skagway in late May and have read good reviews on the train. Can anyone let me know what option they liked the best.

Catching the train up and then boarding the bus and coming back that way or doing the train round trip. Or any other suggestions.

Also is it better to take the later departing time in case there is fog in the morning?

We have never done an Alaskan cruise and love to take pictures.

Thank you in advance for all of your help!!!!

  6. I have not stayed at any Silver Cloud hotels, but know someone that has at the one in Eastgate and is always very happy with it.

The hotel is located next to the Seattle Seahawk (Qwest) stadium and the Seattle Mariners (Safeco) field. It is more in the industrial area, but if you don't mind walking or catching the bus it is an okay location. But if you want to be in the heart of the downtown are, it is NOT.:p

Not sure if it would be noisy from the trains, I would think the hotel would have built in some sound barriers if it were noisy since it is a pretty new hotel.

It is about a 5 minute walk into Pioneer Square and there are a few places close by to eat, here is a link to the Pyramid Brewery http://www.pyramidbrew.com/alehouses/seattle

If you don't want to walk there are buses that run along the street in front of the hotel.

    Sites to see in Seattle:

The popular touristy places are, The Pike Place Market, The Waterfront, Pioneer Square, International District, The Seattle Center, water taxi over to Alki Beach, Boeing Plant Tour.

I see you looked at Trip Advisor, see what areas they also recommend or other threads. Not sure what types of things you are interested in??
