Cruising lends itself to beautiful landscapes and marvelous sea life, but it's more challenging to capture views of land-based wildlife.

DH and I will be heading to Alaska (woohoo... so looking forward to it!) for our 8th consecutive vacation later this summer... went for the "once in a lifetime" and fell in LOVE.

Most of our encounters with land-based wildlife has been during our two self-directed land-based trips.

...and not to take the thread off topic, but I needed to state a small complaint about running out of waffle cones. That's a punishable offense, isn't it?

For those who are trying to produce lemonade from scratch...

I suggest that you melt the sweetener into regular water before adding the ice and lemon juice. Lemon juice changes the ability of the sweetener to dissolve completely (as does the ice).

As a Southerner, I have difficulty producing "sweet tea" on the ship for the same reason. If the tea is already cold, the sweetener (especially if the desire is true sugar) doesn't melt as well.

...and a Happy Friday going into a long weekend for those with Memorial Day (American) off!

There are foods that are always available, even though they never show up on the "Always Available" menus. Mashed potatoes and carrots are two examples.

If there's something you want that isn't on the menu, ask. It may not be available that night, but it just may be. If you don't ask, you'll never know.

I only have two trips on the Ryndam, but both were very memorable... I don't know if we can get a trip scheduled before she leaves the fleet... :(

The Seattle camera is an odd one to use. The "left" view will be the one that will show a ship when it's docked at Pier 91. As the ship sails (you will not see cruisers, as Joanie has already said, since the camera is too far from the ship), but if you choose the correct view (from layouts available) and place the view (by dragging) into the spot, you can almost watch the ship as it sails left to right across your screen at sailaway.

The design of the site itself isn't self-explanatory, and it took some playing to figure out what you can do with the various layouts.

We stayed in the Chase Suites. We got transportation to the port (and we were able to leave our car for the week... which I realize won't impact you) and back. We had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, and kitchen. It was a nice relaxing way to start the cruise. The hotel also was on a waterway, but it wasn't near the port/airport. Breakfast was included as well.
