1. I had a stateroom in that location. I remember wondering if I was hearing some sort of music late at night or if I was imagining it (it was almost indiscernable). It turned out that it was music from Boleros. It certainly wasnt enough to keep me from sleeping.

One issue I`ve had on a few of my cruises where I was on a low deck like that.....the toilet in the stateroom stunk like raw sewage. I wonder if gravity pulls the sludge lower, because I`ve never had this problem except when staying deck 5 or lower. I suggest (just in case) that you bring a small can of room deodorizer.

  2. One thing nobody else mentioned....solid shower doors on Serenade, as opposed to flimsy curtains that flop around and get the bathroom floor all wet.

New mattresses are also hard eh? I've always assumed that the uncomfortable mattresses were due to their age.

If you do opt for Serenade, be prepared to get up early on sea days to get a primo spot by the pool, since there's only one outdoors. You may have a better chance being you'll only need one chair.

I did Enchantment solo in '06 and I had the time of my life.

Anyway, to the op, good luck deciding.

  3. In 2013, our scheduled sailing on Caribbean Princess was cancelled due to an engine problem. I saw this coming thanks to Cruise Critic posts by people onboard the crippled ship limping back to San Juan. We called Princess on Thursday before our Sunday sailing and got the bad news. We finally got an email from Princess on Friday just two days prior to sailing. Thank goodness we didn't fly down early.

Point being, you can't count on much advance notice.

Like someone said, thank goodness for Cruise Critic.

  4. We are on this cruise, Princess newbies as well, and was offered an upsell 2 days ago. We were originally in an obstructed o/v and was offered a balcony for $49/pp. We gladly accepted and are now in a balcony cabin midship on the Aloha deck. Our friends sailing with us was offered the same upsell and they accepted as well. Looking forward to our first ever Princess cruise after 17 with Carnival and 1 with RC.

Us too. I hope we haven't boxed Vacation Cruiser out of an upgrade. Good deal for us tho. Let's pray to the weather gods for that week.

  5. Hi everybody.

We're in the same situation. We'll disembark from the Emerald Princess on Nov. 7 with a flight from FLL at 6:30pm. Here's my plan. Princess (and also RCCL, so perhaps also your line, is Conquest Celebrity or Carnival?) has a service where for a fee you leave your bags in the hall on the final night and the cruise line tags them for your return flight as well as checks you in for the flight. They then transport your bags to the airport, you don't even see them or deal with them at all until you arrive at your home airport and pick them up at baggage claim. I checked with the phone rep at Princess and their service is available for departures up to midnight. So, we'll use that service, put our swimsuits and a can of spray on sunscreen in our carry on, and grab a cab to the nearest decent beach. Later, we'll somehow change and grab a cab to the airport. We'll be sticky with sunscreen for the return flight home, but we won't have spent 100 dollars to rent a hotel for the day. This is all provided of course that it's a sunny day. If it's a lousy day, we'll spend a long boring day at the airport I guess....I'll load a couple good movies on my Kindle to kill time.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

  6. The outside dining as a huge advantage of Radiance Class ships.

The ships are gorgeous, not as shut in as many of the larger ships. Almost all venues have an outside view.

Yes, the pool area is wanting But if you can get up early and get a seat in the first two rows in front of the pool on your sea day, you won't notice the difference. People seem to have a problem getting up early. It's a small price to pay.

  7. Can anyone tell me the date for Adventures dry dock in 2016?

    Thanks

Hi folks. Here's another question attached to the one above. I did notice that the sailing I've booked for my girlfriend and me (Oct 8, '16) is the last one for a while and figured that's probably when they'll do the revitalization.

When we sailed Adventure in '14 the mattresses were done for. Awful. So, here's the question. Do you folks think the mattresses will be replaced during the revitalization? The reason I'm asking is that there's a similar sailing to mine in March '17 (longer with two more island stops). If I were to learn that I'd be more comfortable sleeping, and also that there might be a Chops added, it may be worth switching my booking, even at almost 200% of the fare of my current booking.

Any guesses, or perhaps feedback from someone who sailed one of the sisters after drydock?

    Thanks!!

  8. Keep in mind that for many reviews, people had to have a strong feelings one way or the other. Good or disappointing rarely makes the cut -- it has to be really good or really disappointing.

That being said, if you haven't been to a Brazillian steakhouse yet -- it's certainly worth doing. Just make sure any other travelers are big meat eaters and that everyone comes with an appetite. :)

In my opinion, if you have been to a Brazilian steakhouse, try Chops, because Samba doesn't measure up to any of the Brazilian steakhouses in Philly that I've been to.

  9. How horrible!

DH reminded me that if you don't wash the bloody sheets in cold water, it will set in the stain. Still, they should change the sheets, and make sure the replacements are not stained. If the the same thing happened to us, I'd think hard before giving the cabin steward a top mark.

All that said, on Legend, I got the worst case of contact dermatitis in years, and medical didn't have anything better than what I'd brought with me. A month later, I still have traces of it. After our last cruise, our silk sleep sacks are back in our suitcase.

My thought was also that the stains were set in. Obviously, some good Q.C. would mandate such bedding be disposed of. Even if said sheets were super sanitized and every germ obliterated, the customer shouldn't have to look at someone else's body fluids.

While they're at it, they need to pitch some of the pool towels and mattresses as well, which are way past their useful lives.

  10. Nothing alike! We go Princess when we want some quiet/relaxation. The Oasis/Allure is go, go, go. and you will not see it all in a week. Princess has the movies every night but RCCL will have shows and fit in a few movies in off nights. The shows are fantastic and not to be missed. The movies you can see at home or on DVD. Much more to do physically on RCCL during the day. Food venues are scattered all over the ship and are often just small but good places to eat. More pools, hot tubs on RCCL but then again crowd is larger too. They are different but equally great. Just depends on what you are looking for. We go RCCL when we go family and just adults, its Princess.

I can concur, having sailed both, that the experience is somewhat different, and that indeed you should take advantage of the shows onboard. As for movies, no, RCCL doesn't come close to the MUTS experience, and you'll end up being disappointed if you try.

  11.
I kinda feel bad since I gained 7-8 pounds on my last cruise. I came in with a plan to exercise daily and I didn't even go to the gym once. I'm back on my normal healthy way of eating and exercise and I feel great again. I are pretty healthy on the cruise but I got the premium drink package and went a little overboard. I didn't have the massive plates filled with food, I didn't sleep next to the freestyle coke machine and I limited the desserts I had.

Another thing that I noticed was that there were lots of overweight adults and kids on the ship I went on. It was a shame. I heard one kid brag that his urine was orange because he drank so much soda. Just sad parenting even if you're on vacation.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
In order not to have to buy new clothes or a new suit before a cruise, and also in order to look okay in bathing suit photos, I always end up losing 15 to 20 lbs in the month or so before a cruise.

Then I throw down on the cruise.

Anyway, a couple weeks before this year's cruise in February, I happened to have a physical with my doctor. All seemed very good as usual, and he sent me out with an order for bloodwork and urinalysis to check for cholesterol, etc. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to get to the lab for the bloodwork until after our cruise. Now, while cruising I ate like on a cruise, but, notably, I drink 5 or 6 cups of coffee each day, and about 5 glasses of iced tea with dinner. As a result of my indulgence on the cruise (at least I hope this is why) my cholesterol shot up a lot since my last bloodwork, and my PSA number spiked.

I told my doc I had just cruised, so he instructed me to have the bloodwork done again in 4 months.

I guess we should try to watch what we're doing at least a little.
  12. I just reserved on the May 21 sailing right after that, but the prices are going to need to come down before I fully commit. $4800 for two people in an E2 :eek:. Right now it's significantly cheaper to fly to San Juan or Florida and cruise from there.

My thought exactly. I just booked a seven nighter for next March on Jewel from SJ, but when I heard that Liberty was going to be sailing from Bayonne, I was excited to see the itineraries. On seeing your thread, I went right to the website and checked it out. Only 5 nighters, with only two days at port? As much as I'd like to try a Freedom class voyage, none of the prices/itineraries measure up to the prices/itineraries offered for the SJ cruises.

I think the cruiselines have woke up to the outrageous value that has been cruising. They're starting to cash in a little.

  13. I haven't sailed on a Disney cruise, but I have sailed on Princess 3 times and can tell you that the RCCL movie viewing experience is pretty weak in comparison. Not only do the venues not measure up (though the theaters on Radiance class ships aren't bad) and there are no snacks or drinks served to you, but the viewing times are kind of inconvenient.

  14. Hi everybody.

Can someone please tell me, does Adventure stop in Havensight or Crown Bay? I'm guessing Crown Bay, but I much prefer Havensight. The answer will determine whether I choose Jewel or Adventure for our next cruise.

Thanks all for your help. A quick forum search provided no info on this.
