  1. Also, if you're booking with a non refundable deposit, you must buy the HAL insurance at the time of your deposit. This would include booking the bare bones, 'best price' fare on the website which does not include HIA (I think that thd one with HIA is called the 'best value' fare and its deposit is refundable therefore you can wait till just before final payment to purchase the insurance). If you want a refundable deposit, a later insurance purchase, but not HIA, you have to call in to a TA or HAL and ask for the 'advantage fare'.

  2. If the possibility of being assigned a cabin that would negatively impact your cruise to the point that you've described, why dont you just bite the bullet, call HAL and upsell yourself to a cabin you would be happy with?

  3. Also, the bigger the ship, the more passengers for the total port charges to be divided between. A ship carrying 3500 or more passengers to spread the port charges between is going to be less $$ per person than a ship carrying 1400 passengers. The NS carries around 2500 passengers. What is the passenger load of the Celebrity ship you're comparing it to?

thank you everyone! Gives me more time to decide what restaurant to choose 🙂

The length of your cruise dictates the number of HIA included dinners and WHICH restaurants are included. When 1 dinner is included with HIA it is the Pinnacle. With 2 included dinners it is the Pinnacle and either Canneletto or Tamarind, depending on the ship (Tamarind is not on all ships). Your HAL cruise invoice will specify the restaurant included on your cruise.

We have a cruise scheduled at the end of January.  If we book a future cruise while on board can we move it to our travel agent when we get home?  Also, can we book an advantage fare on board?  Are we able to add Club Orange so we can choose our cabin while we are choosing a cruise on board?

Last spring when I booked a 2024 cruise while on board I was told by the future cruise consultant that they could not book CO on board. I'm guessing that's because it has to go through the inventory control department. I booked the lowest guarantee cabin in the category while on board with the intent to add CO later. As it turned out, I chose to keep the guarantee since it was only a 10 day cruise (w CO priced at $25pppd) and a smaller ship with no CO dining room. It was for a vista suite and I decided I'd be happy in any cabin assigned.

Thank you to everyone for explaining the complimentary tick box and where to find it! That was indeed where I was going wrong, and I’ve been able to book us in for a Pinnacle dinner on the first night of the cruise. That way if it’s wonderful, we can think about another one.

if you like the Pinnacle you might also consider booking lunch there on a sea day. Lunches can only be booked once on board, but its a wonderful way to spend a sea day. I think its now $19 + 18% pp.

  7. The larger sq footage usually applies to handicapped accessible cabins. That being said, deck 4 in general has larger balconies. There are a few angled balconies (basically 4 of them on each deck mid ship) that have larger balconies. Also aft facing cabins have deeper balconies. Except for the HA cabins, the veranda cabin interiors are basically the same size.

Thank you and Haljo1935 for the suggestion of purchasing Club Orange.  I decided to do it and we got upgraded to an unobstructed balcony on Deck 7 in the forward section of the ship.  My husband and I are  looking forward to  being able to dine in the Club Orange Dining Room and I am looking forward to enjoying the balcony.  Thanks for letting me know about Club Orange.

    You're welcome! Enjoy your cruise!

  10. When and how long is your cruise? If 14 days or more, you could book the obstructed veranda, add Club Orange for $15/pp/pd (assuming it's still available... it's capacity controlled, $25/pp/pd on shorter cruises) and get bumped up to the highest veranda available. You can pick from any available cabins. You also get priority boarding, tendering and Guest Services line, Club Orange dining room and a special CO tote bag.

If I'm  a little off on the cruise days for the difference in the per day cost, I'm sure someone will correct me.

I understand verifying  annually for most of these categories but it seems kind of silly for military veterans.

It's not as if you won't be a veteran next year.

Veterans do not. My DH (veteran) has the military appreciation linked to his mariner # and on his profile it says for sailings through Dec 2025. We shall see what happens after that. Who knows, HAL may discontinue after that.
